A walk at the blue hour, a photo from Salamanca, Castilla y Leon

Photographer's Note

During a pleasant night walk across the historical center of the wonderful city of Salamanca, I took several photos of the New Cathedral, in this case, at the blue hour. From the Rua Mayor, I found this visual angle, in which the tower of the Cathedral was framed in the middle of a beautiful ensemble of houses with a splendid architecture.
The effective lighting and its warm golden tones were creating a very nice atmosphere.

No tripod.

Information: The New Cathedral, attached to the Old one, was begun to construct in 1513, and in 1733 it is inaugurated and dedicated solemnly. In the initial promotion the Catholic Kings intervened, by request of the Chapter Cathedral, which, with the successive bishops, acted always as principal promoter.
It was begun to construct in Gothic style, and though also some other later styles were in use, a stylistic unit will preserve until the end in this art. It is a church with rectangular plant, of three naves, where in addition there are numerous chapels’ niches between buttresses. In the crossing there is a magnificent dome formed by "ochavado" body on scallops, cylindrical drum with wide large windows and semispherical dome finished in lantern.
The Church receives the light of 90 windows, proceeding from Flanders. In its walls also two continuous galleries spread, in two heights, 90 medallions with busts of prophets, Evangelists and doctors, and some other cathedral shields with the vase of lilies.

Durante un agradable paseo nocturno a través del centro histórico de la maravillosa ciudad de Salamanca, tomé varias fotos de la Catedral Nueva, en este caso, a la hora azul.
Desde la Rua Mayor, encontré este ángulo visual, en el que la torre de la Catedral estaba enmarcada en medio de un conjunto de casas con una espléndida arquitectura.
La eficaz iluminación y sus tonos cálidos dorados creaban una atmósfera muy agradable.

Información: La Catedral Nueva, adosada a la Vieja, se comenzó a construir en 1513, y en 1733 se inaugura y consagra solemnemente. En la promoción inicial intervinieron los Reyes Católicos, a petición del Cabildo Catedral, que, con los obispos sucesivos, actuó siempre como principal promotor.
Se comenzó a construir en estilo gótico, y aunque también se utilizaron algunos otros estilos posteriores, conservará hasta el final una unidad estilística en este arte. Se trata de una iglesia con planta rectangular, de tres naves, donde además hay numerosas capillas hornacinas entre contrafuertes. En el crucero se yergue un magnífico cimborrio formado por cuerpo ochavado sobre pechinas, tambor cilíndrico con amplios ventanales y cúpula semiesférica, rematado en linterna.
La Iglesia recibe la luz de 90 vidrieras, procedentes originariamente de Flandes. En sus muros también se extienden dos galerías corridas, en dos alturas, 90 medallones con bustos de profetas, evangelistas y doctores, y otros tantos escudos catedralicios con el búcaro de azucenas.

Beautiful light and good composition. The complicated frame and keylines are unecessary. They take you out of the location and makes the picture look formal, like it's ready for a museum. Image is sharp enough for no tripod.

Bonita esta composição nesta rua em Salamanca um belo lugar para passear a noite por estas rua antigas, achei fantástico o contraste do dourado da iluminação com o azul do céu ,bons detalhes de arquitetura na igreja de fundo ,penso que escolhia fotografar no formato vertical para não cortar as pernas das pessoas no primeiro plano , parabéns !!!

Wow! Very beautiful colour combination of the orange illuminated cathedral, the blue sky and the dark - almost silhouette of the - cypress.
Nice view from in the surrounding streets with the houses as an excellent frame.
I have visited Salamanca but I don't remember this view. After a while I only remember the views of the pictures I've taken.

molto intensa e apprezzata questa vista della cattedrale di Salamanca, città ricca di storia.
Il risultato durante l'ora blu è eccellente con i toni dorati della cattedrale. Le facciate e le linee architettoniche degli edifici circostanti contribuiscono a dare una immagine piena di atmosfera.

Hello Josep,

A nice view of this new cathedral with that small path leading to the buildings all the way back. I like the color contrast between the blue sky and the golden colors of the cathedral. The image is very crisp with excellent lighting.The people add scale to the image.

Hi Josep, You were lucky with the weather in Salamanca. fantastic bklue hour shot, I like the golden cathedral very much. I should go from the cathedral farther straight on, but I went to the right and in this way I haven't found the Old one. excellent ciompositio n, marvelous colours of late evening.

Super view point and compo with the Cathedral well set off in between displaying the wonderfully ornate architecture. You are right to include the group of people in the area where the eye is drawn to as well, to keep the main interest in focus. wonderful blue hour capture. I like the Golden color of the architecture -it goes so well with the glowing blue sky. People walking the street add a nice touch of a busy street. The cathedral is spectacular, I could easily spend a whole day photographing it at various times of a day. Very nice framing with the buildings on both sides.

ISO 2000 muito boa qualidade, em automático(?)
Bela composição para mostrar parte desta lindíssima zona antiga de Salamanca. A hora azul fez um bonito contrate com os dourados dos edifícios.
No mês de Julho passarei por Salamanca a caminho dos Picos da Europa.
Vou tentar fazer umas fotografias com a qualidade das tuas.

Hola Josep.
Que bien has captado la magia de Salamanca a la hora azul, esta es la cara de la catedral que peor luz tiene siempre, al estar orientada al norte, sin embargo aqui con la bonita luz dorada de la iluminacion, luce como una joya.
La presencia de la gente da un toque muy vital a la composicion y la gran perspectiva de la calle del fondo, da una notable profundidad de campo.
Fabulosa la buena gestion de la luz y la nitidez. Lastima del calor que pasasteis amigos mios, que quizas os resto algo de entusiasmo, pero esta ciudad tiene un duende especial que te hace disfrutar.
