Au coeur du Couserans, Saint Girons, (très jolie ville)
Cette petite capitale est située au point de convergence de plusieurs vallées qui constituent le pays de Couserans, jadis vicomté riche et prospère comme en témoigne l'ensemble architectural du château des Vicomtes, sur les bords de Salat.

La ville est entourée d'eau
Elle est baignée par le lez, le Baup et le Salat prend sa source dans les Pyrénées. Il naît de neuf sources à 6 kilomètres en amont du hameau de Salau commune de Couflens, dans le massif du Mont Valier, sur le flanc nord du Mont Rouch (2 858 mètres). L'orientation générale de son cours va du sud-est vers le nord-ouest. Il traverse la vallée d'Angouls, puis franchit le massif de l'Arize, où il parcourt les gorges de Ribaouto. Il passe à Saint-Girons et Saint-Lizier, et se jette dans la Garonne à Roquefort-sur-Garonne près de Boussens

Le Salat est une rivière du sud-ouest de la France qui coule dans la région du Couserans, dans les départements de l'Ariège et de la Haute-Garonne. C'est un affluent de la Garonne en rive droite. (Wikipédia)
