This is the railway station in Røros, one of the main stations along the Røros Line and one of a few still manned and in operation.
The Røros Line connects Trondheim to Hamar over Østerdalen – the East Valley. The line was constructed between 1862-1877, and officially opened by King Oscar II October 18 1877.
The station area is located at 628 m and the new station was opened in 2002, 125 years after the first station located in the same site.
The image was taken on a lazy Saturday afternoon this summer as the temperature rise above 30C, the trains we see are waiting to departure to Hamar (southbound) and Trondheim (northbound). The distance between Trondheim and Hamar is 431 km.
On January 4 2000 occurred one of the worst train accidents in Norway near Åsta south of Røros, when a northbound multiple unit and a southbound passenger train collided on the line killing 19 people while 67 survived the tragedy.
The Åsta train disaster is the second worst in Norway, after the Tretten disaster in 1975 killing 27 and injuring 25.
The workshop shows the old station building located next door.

Nice composition here with the board of the floor leading the eye into the shot. The angle of the scene is fine show good depth and direction. The lighting and colors are fine with nice sharpness and DOF.

Simple but very nice composition..!
ktanska (26045) 2008-08-20 5:10
Nice station view along the rails giving good perspective. And excellent weather, we in Finland never got that wark this summer. I might have chosen not to show those trashcans, although well designed and very important on any public place.
From this angle the new station looks like respecting older architecture but the WS shows that maybe it doesn't.
fabio_ts (13696) 2008-08-20 5:18
Hi Pablo, I like a lot the POV you have chosen here and the great perspective that you have created from it, excellent composition, compliments!!!

I like trains and train rides, particularly in antique models for tourists where I can feel better the junction between rails and the swaying! And then I imagine the mysterious plots on board of the Orient Express!
You took advantage here of convergent lines in the wodden platform, opposed to perpendiculars of walls to create a stryking effect.
macondo (18637) 2008-08-20 6:24
Many years ago I caught a train that passed through Hell. I took a picture of the station and I recently found the photo when looking through some old boxes of 'stuff'. Is Hell on this line? I seem to remember it was somewhere near Trondheim, but I could be mistaken.
Anyway, back to the photo. I think to avoid the rubbish bins, as one comment suggested, you would have had to sacrifice the nice chair as well, which would have been a shame. I like the lovely timber platform in this station, well worth photographing. The lovely deep red of the vertical timberwork makes a nice counter to the unpainted woodwork. I like the position of the train coming in, although I think one or two people further down the platform might have made this even better. There's a slight tilt, which may have been deliberate, or perhaps correcting it might have meant cropping out the nearest bit of red wall on the right.
Overall, it's a dynamic shot with good side lighting.
snunney (90662) 2008-08-20 7:29
A pleasing composition with good depth and and framing. Nice graphical lines offered by the planking of the platform. Very good colours and clarity.
AROBN54 (11473) 2008-08-20 7:35
great shot! I love the opposition in the vertical lines of the building and the horizontal ones on the walkway. Marvelous detail, lovely light and color and a really good note! Many thanks and warm regards,

Hello Pablo. A fascinating motive. The photo is outstanding composed and technically brilliant. Worth seeing. Best regards, Wolfgang.
Buin (42362) 2008-08-20 8:47
More depth nearly isn't possible ... ;-) The eyes are drawn to the background by many many details here - and this wonderful light creates a beautiful summer impression here. Let's go to Trondheim!
Greetings from - today - rainy Germany!

Hi Pablo, Modern looking station and trains in the old city of Roros. I did not know there is a railway line in Roros. Very nice shot, with beautiful colours and composition. This summer was unusual, I suppose, as when I was there three weeks earlier it was also warm and sunny.
bracasha75 (24585) 2008-08-20 9:22

Very nice picture and perpective. Excellent composition and colors, Excellent POV. and details.
avene (12675) 2008-08-20 11:36
I like a lot the strong perspective in this photo, and the bizarre feeling of the different lines moving in different directions - the train seems to be coming in, while the lines of the wooden floor seem to be going out. good eye in seeing all these converging lines, and I like how you have composed the photo, the bins in the lower left corner add a good depth. nice one :)
Cricri (111977) 2008-08-20 11:52

Good morning Pablo,
nice and quite the environment of this train station in Røros.I like the perspective that created from the wooden jetty as the passing by train. The colors and the lights as ever, in combination with the sharpness, make the scene so great.Well done.
Have a nice day,Danos

A very fine perspective with that lonesome train. Nice colours of the building to the right.
Greetings from Gothenburg
jhm (145092) 2008-08-21 4:56
This is a very nice school example for perfect perspective.
You chose a very well angle, this create depth, the wood floor leads us nice to the background.
Where are all people here Pablo, a station without one people, this would in Belgian almost not can.
Very wxell done, TFS.
UlfE (14641) 2008-08-21 6:00
A really fine composition. The line and perspective make it very attractive. Perfect with the arriving train. Colours, light and sharpness are excellent as usual. TFS and have a nice day1
pierrefonds (60990) 2008-08-21 6:09
The diagonal line made by the train arriving at the station is an asset to the composition. The lamposts are like standing guards. The point of view is giving depth to the picture. The colors are enhanced by the good light. Have a nice day.
Kielia (24073) 2008-08-21 6:42
this is a perfect capture of a typical Scandinavian railway station, everything is clean and shining and I like your idea of including the waste bins since they are so very well designed too! YOur management of the ligth is excellent. My compliments!

Hi, Pablo. The perspective is very good in this image. And the contrast between the red doors on the right and the wooden floor works very well. A very good composition.
Have a nice evening,
MarcT (20964) 2008-08-21 22:03
Excellent colours and very natural feeling to your picture. The composition is excellent. Perhaps could a passenger have brought a little life to the image.
molla (7129) 2008-08-21 22:19
amazing how much it really does, using wood in the platform.
Good contrast between thetraditional building and the modern train. the perspective and POV is also very fine.

Another excellent shot!
feather (51130) 2008-08-22 7:24
Good uses of both perspective and repetition to draw the eye into the scene. The painted red walls are very eye-catching. I think you timed the shot well with the train placed perfectly.

josepmarin (58027) 2008-08-23 4:42
the great perspective that offers us this good setting gives an excellent dynamism and a strong depth to the image.
The work with the light is very good and the shades add more visual attraction.

anducina (8407) 2008-08-24 9:06
Excellent compo, DOF and warm colors, I like the light-shadows play. There is always something melancholic about railway stations...
syd1946 (18663) 2008-08-24 9:12
Usually the old trains and stations are very attractive for photography...but this modern one stands out great!Splendid quality, excellent colors and wise choice of point of view for the perspective.A very good one!

Hi My Friend,
nice daily life sense. I like colours and perspective. thanks for note. take care.
stego (24124) 2008-08-24 10:17
Amazing compo! It's so finely balanced, with the wooden platform, station walls, garbage bins and train "exactly where they should be". The clarity, colours and the spotless sharpness are also great, all making a very catchy image.
It's a admirable piece of architecture, that looks modern and at the same time antique. As a matter of fact, before I read the comprehensive note, I thought to myself that they had done a very good job restoring an old station.
shevchenko (18892) 2008-08-25 0:39
Interesting composition to show local transportation, very far distant between Hamar and Trondheim, fresh to see wooden floor at railway station, I see the sunlight shinning here and no where to find out shade, just hot waiting train at this station, take care, thanks for sharing.
John_F_Kennedy (43505) 2008-08-25 1:06
Beautifull image. Fine tones and lights. i like the contrast of the old station with the new train. Well done.
riclopes (35577) 2008-08-25 6:51
Olá pablo, great shot, superb composition. Strangely, I find the new station more beautiful than the old one and this wooden floor gives a lovely cozy mood as well as the red on the facade. Excellent inclusion of the garbage bins(?) at left and the train arriving. Each color for each type of garbage, I guess...
Tue (29826) 2008-08-25 8:17
A very good photo of this station, I like the many strong lines in the photo and the inclusion of the arriving train is really good too. The light and colours are also very pleasant. Thanks for sharing!
zeynepe (0) 2008-08-25 9:58
The depth, the texture of the wooden floor and the red wall make the compo fantastic.
Best regards and have a nice week,
gunbud (34066) 2008-08-25 10:53
Wonderful clarity and depth to this fine transportation shot.
Love the texture and details to the old wooden loading dock.
The silver train and lines in the dock blend beautifully.
Angshu (56664) 2008-08-25 20:54
Good use of diminishing linear perspective with the planks of the platform. The red colour on the walls add interest. The two trains are in properly placed in the compo. 431 Km is not a small distance, but the train has only two coaches? In India, trains have a minimum of 15 bogies(or coaches), yet it is always difficult to get reservations.
plimrn (21344) 2008-08-25 23:12
This view is much more dynamic with the train completing the composition well. Still the WS is interesting, makes one wonder why a new station was necesary. Is the dearth of train stations related to a decrease in passenger travel or just the automation of tickets?
One doesn't expect to get hurt on the train, still the one I take to my folk's house had a fatality accident when some foo parked on the tracks. He claimed he meanty to commit suicide but chickened out and jumped oput of the way.
skippy007 (12510) 2008-08-25 23:47
Hello Pablo, A very well balanced & interesting scene with great depth. Colouring & detail are as always excellent.
hatti52 (12786) 2008-08-26 1:40
very nice composition with excellent perspective
i like colours and sharpness
well seen and done
trekks (14348) 2008-08-27 9:47
From the wooden platform, I can see that the railway station must be quite a history. But I really like the old style retained in this station for its classic look. A fine post for TE to share.
Greg1949 (9011) 2008-08-27 10:42
Pablo, this one is great, but then the score before my entry already proclaimed that loud and clear. I think it is a fine shot combining the modern train and the old platform and station, well seen and presented.
polpo56 (15136) 2008-08-27 14:19
I love photos of railway station.
In this shot I like very much the framing and the wood-floor.
It seems an ancient railway station.
aadilj (18102) 2008-08-27 22:41
Your gallery is actually so overwhelming and brimming with such masterpieces that i am speechless! I love this composition where you have used the perspective with such a dramatic impact
cfreire (11741) 2008-08-28 7:38
Creative composition with the lines in oposition; the lights are superbs; colors and contrasts are beautiful. Good composition under a different POV. Well done. Regards, Consuelo
jmdias (59174) 2008-08-28 8:10
nice pov showing the train arriving in the station, the lines created by the train and the ground of this station are very nice to see
bobocortis (15988) 2008-08-28 11:59
Under my stictly personal point of view, this picture could be straightened a bit, but anyway I like it a lot for sharpeness, vivid colors and depth.
zeca (19762) 2008-08-28 22:38
Excellent point of view, showing the old station and the arriving brand new train. The depth of field is very nice. I like the details on the wooden deck, the colours are very nice and we have lots of details to enjoy on this nice composition. Well taken, Pablo!!
oanna (1202) 2008-08-28 22:41
hi,pablo, you have quite a striking contrast between the quaint wooden station with its red walls and benches and the modern speed train.feels very holidaylike:).
emjleclercq (15780) 2008-08-28 22:48
Nice contrast between the rather modern train and the old fashioned style of the woden platform and bench. If this is the main station, I wonder how a "small station" would like in Norway...
All the best,
clio (27961) 2008-08-31 0:42
Fantastic perspective given by the boards of the platform. A photo full of rhythm. I really like it very much, bravo!
Have a nice sunday;
robertosalguero (246) 2008-09-01 22:42
Train stations are not as common in my province as in Europe. I think is a shame because they bring so much character and beauty to any town. Nice light and colours to compose this image. The view is clear and priceless. Thanks Pablo.
mikolaj_kawa (0) 2008-09-03 2:11
Hello Pablo! Lat train home? Wonderful shot. Good POV and perspective. Perfect capture. Good luck!
mortijo (12828) 2008-09-04 9:31
Great composition with a lot of depth, created by the planking. Nice, soft colors. I was there in May and it was...snowing.
npecanhuk (70752) 2008-09-06 4:18
I love traveling and, in Europe, trains and train stations are things to be used and visited! No one can really miss them!
On this theme, of course, here I find this very well taken photograph, where in your composition you've included both station and train arriving: very nice!
As for the technique, nothing to remark... in my humble opinion, everything is well adjusted!
TFS - Congratulations!
Warmest regards and greetings from Brazil,
fanni (14381) 2008-09-06 13:17
I will add my "voice", too, and "vote" for this photo :)
Interesting composition, the colours are very well balanced; excellent timing and very good lighting!
Henryk_Bilor (20799) 2008-09-08 1:48
This is nice capture - along all these lines converged to the horizon. Good light.
Have a nice day.
jaywalker (16101) 2008-09-13 16:40
Hi Pablo, A very well composed shot, the positioning of your POV was well chosen & the angle is excellent, I like the bench to the right & everything runs nicely parallel to the trains, there is super colour & light, TFS, kind regards Wilson.
Vato_Law (12720) 2008-09-21 12:19
Charming is the least I can say about this old train station mainly made of wood, with the wooden benches. Althiugh there are already signs of modernity on it specially observable by the trash cans on the left side, their minimal shapes doesn't make them 'collide' too much with the old look of the station.
The train arriving/leaving the station is another nice add to the photo.
Another thing I like are those lines made by the ground which gives so much depth to the photo, and the way the light was well managed and looks so soft.
serp2000 (42188) 2008-10-26 2:03
Excellent shot! Like a classic Arrive the train! Fine composed, good colours! tfs!aN INTERESTING INFORMATION!
Urs (14082) 2009-12-27 6:11
Cool, a wooden platform instead of concrete. I have never seen such a railway station - very nice, thanks for sharing it, I learned something more. Good note too. Vibrant color hues with high sharpness - well done
Amaz (11475) 2010-02-07 7:39
Excellent capture, my dear Pablo!!
Perfect "blend" of modern technology and old builings!!
Very sad your note over that train disaster.
ikeharel (63815) 2011-09-18 1:53
A train coming to station is always a fascinating subject, Pablo.
DOF and light well managed here, though I'd take a few steps out to tracks, in order to include more of the hills on BG in picture. My taste only - the image has good dynamic scale, colors and coltrast with fine clearity.
Have a nice Sunday
