The city of Rey is the oldest existing city in the province of Tehran, Iran. Rey today has been absorbed into the Greater Tehran metropolitan area and is connected via the Tehran Metro to the rest of Tehran and has many industries and factories in operation.
A settlement began here c 6,000 BCE as part of the Central Plateu Culture. The settlement was used as a capital by the Medes called Rhaga.
Rey is richer than many other ancient cities in the number of its historical monuments, among which one might refer to the 3000-year-old Gebri castle, the 5000-year-old Cheshmeh Ali hill, the 1000-year-old Bibi Shahr Banoo tomb and Shah Abbasi caravansary. It has been home to pillars of science like Rhazes.
After the Mongol conquest the town was severely damaged and it gradually lost its importance in the presence of nearby Tehran.
The shot was taken in Cheshmeh Ali hill, which is almost 5000 years old. It is located in the south of Tehran and north of Rey. The ancient wall of the city -which is partially reconstructed- is seen on top of the image .
Since Rey was used as a recreation center due to its beautiful attractions under the reign of the Qajar dynasty, Fath Ali Shah often used to explore the city. In 1831 his portrait and that of some Qajar princes were engraved on a rock at Cheshmeh Ali hill and its surrounding was decorated with tablets covered by poetry. In the inscription, Fath Ali Shah himself is seen on the famous royal throne called Takht e Tavoos (means: The Peacock Throne).
In the WS an overall view of the place is available.

Seems an amazing place and it doesn't even seem to be situated in the city! It seems completely different in both photos! You have done a good work in both of them, the sharpness, the colours, the pov. The one in Ws would alos be good for a main post, as it gives a very good idea of the place!

Wonderful composition with this part of the wall, the wall engraved on the rock under it is great and your nice composition shows him at a good level. Very interesting your note, I have found a place and a little story that I ignored.
Good management of light and a beautiful color, the deep blue sky is great. TFS.

Well composed image with nice balance to the blue sky. I like your low viewpoint intensifies the perspective greatly and good diagonal line. Excellent exposure, a strong image with lovely delicate designs and textures in the stonework. Clear crispy tones that bring this image alive with good contrast. Sharpness is superb while the soft shadows enhanced the depth. Good effort, a well taken shot of this historical monuments. Congrats and thks for sharing

Salam dear Atousa
This place is magnificent, what a treasure and I have not heard about it before. Your superb Note is highly informative and you have made be curious to know more of this place. If find it astounding that a Metro system connects to this place that is 8,000 years old! The monuments and relics must truly be impressive. Excellent photo here, beautiful details, lovely warm colours which contrast against the blue sky: all wonderful. TFS and I wish you a lovely evening.

This a beautiful and technically good shot. I like the combination of the warm earth tone and deep blue sky. They always work so well. I like the details and texture of the calving and the natural patterh of the rock. Even the cracks and water stain show very nicely here.
Excellent POV and compo.

A fantastic place! Thanks for the wide view which shows us this place, but this work of art, which appears to me to be similar to those in Persepolis. A pity about their state, but I also feel taking this picture later in the day with more pronounced shadows would have enhanced the effect of teh rather shallow (in depth) scultures. Excellent work!
Didi (51269) 2011-02-11 6:40
Interesting details on the wall
Your point of view is OK
I suggest you to try to take a similar picture with lateral lights.

The sculptures on the wall are clear and well shown, forming a great figure. The angle was well chosen, and the highlight is the perfect texture of the picture. Good work, congratulations!
