The roof of the open barn is constructed from the lids of 40 gallon oil drums left over from WW2.
Peechelba is a small town in northeastern Victoria, Australia. The town is between Wangaratta and Yarrawonga and 277 kilometres northwest of the state capital, Melbourne. In 2006 there were about 116 people living in and around Peechelba.

un très beau cadrage et de belles couleurs d'un soir avec une lumière douce; et un ciel sublime avec ces moutons à la traine...excellente composition

You have done well to bring out the detail on the shaded side of the tree and building considering that the image was taken directly into strong light. A very good composition that has a distinctly Australian summer ambience (or ambiance).

Despite what you say about the roof of this rather crude looking barn being made of battered out old oil drums, nonetheless it has a very attractive appearance. But it is the fabulous lighting (contre jour as we say in English!) which makes this one so special, casting some wonderful shadows as it does and also illuminating the barn as well as the undersides of those fabulous clouds across the deep blue sky.
Your use of a wide lens has given that wonderful "explosive" appearance to the clouds which I find very attractive. Your composition is excellent, the barn being balanced nicely by the lone tree but, as I said, it is the superb light which really is the "star of the show" here. Perfect exposure (in very difficult conditions), fabulous colours and exquisite details and sharpness.

That sky and the light it engenders are quite sublime. The tree and the open barn making a very interesting combination and offer much of interest to the viewer. Superb colours and sharpness. Top class photography.

hi leslie. i must say, great pp work here. i usually am tempted to ignore cartoon-like results, but this one is somehow in the edge and it rather looks like a painting than a cartoon.

Quelle belle photo, résultat de l'utilisation de ce superbe grand angle qui fait que les éléments semblent pencher vers l'arrière vers ce ciel magnifique.

an amazing shot this. So different to your West Country shots but just as beautiful and compelling. The light management here is just superb and the sky just stunning. Glorious imagery - I love it!

Hello Les - I like to see old rubbish re-invented reused and see quite a lot of examples in rural Namibia. I haven't seen oil drum lids used as roof tiles but I have seen them used as decorative panels in farm gates. The back-lighting has been well managed here and the shadows and clouds give dynamism to this outback scene. I bet you could do with a bit of Australian sun right now! Warm regards Rosemary

A great image at the first glance !
Be aware, though, that your gradient post processes are visible (on the roof and in the tree)
A little less extreme dark tones recovery would have worked better to my mind ;)

Good to recicle and use the old lids , must be a good material
And the capture has a quite atractive sky and management of light with the long shadows and the special effect caused by the lents
Original and creative composition
Good work, congrats

This is a very good one! I like a lot the composition and the sunlight coming from behind the tree. The barn in ruins has so many wonderful details and I like the way you framed it with that tree. Light and colours are just great!

Ciao e buona giornata

Interesting priority to the deep sky
Very good exposure management on backlights
vjmite (3736) 2014-01-10 17:28
A classic subject for a photo, sharp and well composed. But the quality of the light gives it a surreal touch that is magical.
