Another picture taken during a wonderfully enjoyable meeting of some TE members in the Scottish Borders last month. We actually stayed in hotels very near to the church steeple which you see on the left.
This is the small border town of Peebles taken from exactly the same location below the bridge as this previous picture but looking downstream across the River Tweed toward the main part of the town itself.
Peebles is a small town of about 8,000 population and which developed at the confluence of the River Tweed and Eddleston Water. For centuries it played a large part in the wool trade and had several wollen mills though all but one have now disappeared. Now it caters for tourists enjoying the scenery of the Scottish Borders and also acts a dormitory town for workers in Edinburgh which is only about 25 miles distant by road.

well, I must say that you've had some doozy photographs lately John - and we have another one today.
so this TE meeting was an overnight stay? wow, thats a great idea. You'll get a good idea who are the early risers for sunset lighting haha
there's only 1 area that's overexposed here, and thats on the far left. But honestly, it looks like a white wall or a soft beige colored wall, and with that lighting its impossible to keep it from being overly bright anyways. Overall its a wonderfully lit scene, with a hint of dark reds mixed with the yellows and greens.
I also really like how the tall yellow grass fads a bit in the bottom section on the left.
whats not to enjoy there John! its another beauty!

Beautiful beautiful landscape shot. I love the concept of light on one hill and shadow on the other. Lovely colors contrast and sharpness. Thanks for sharing.

You stayed in a gorgeous area. You chose fantastic place and time, to enjoy the most beautiful autumn colours. And what light you had here! Must have been wonderful walking along the River Tweed or just to relax on one of these benches. Nice little village with a church. fantastic grasses in fg.
Tomorrow I will visit the Beatles town, I tune already Penny Lane :).

What a beautiful view of Peebles ! So luminous ad colorful before the long and cold scottish winter . With splendid warm autumn colors and superb light and sky . The composition is great , with the church tower at the strong point , and the golden grass in the FG contrasting with the blue water .
From this POV , this little town looks like a little village .

Peebles looks like a lovely place John. Set in amongst trees and next to the river the buildings take on a warm glow under the autumn sun. An attractive shot which shows off both the loveliness of the autumn tints and the town. I wish I could have joined you all..... one day! Warm regards Rosemary

Splendid image with all the ingredients for a success: gorgeous warm light, grey threatening sky, a river, a little village and greenery in its fall colors
What else !?
Best regards, have a nice day

This shot must have been taken the day we were driving up. Apart from the quite stunning location of river, houses and colourful trees, I love that sky with its mixture of ominous clouds and bright blue breaks! It has created a wonderful mixture of light and shadow across the entire scene.
Peter would have been proud of you with your strong f/h triangle and aptly placed vertical!
Have a lovely day,
williewhistler (16404) 2013-11-27 4:00
you have taken full advantage of a lovely light to create a 3D effect with the sunlit trees in the FG standing out nicely against the shaded fields beyond.
The impressive composition is perfectly suited to the panoramic that you have chosen.
A very attractive area beautifully portrayed.
Best regards Les.

This is real a postcard of the Scottish borders.
Congratulation for this fantastic photo work.
A lovely depth and perspective picture.
Colours and presentation be superb.
Very well done, TFS.

hello john. an incredible beauty this is, i mean the place, light, colors and composition. your pp work takes the best out of it without getting lost in the temptation of exaggeration. i see no overexposures, as i suppose a white wall should look white at all, and without a glow around a white area, it is difficult for me to claim overexposure. the map works quite properly, i enjoyed seeing the river tweed and the old parish church from satellite.
Noel_Byrne (32536) 2013-11-27 4:39
I love the name of this place, Peebles. Its one of those words that I cannot say without smiling!
A fantastic shot of the place too, so amazingly pin sharp (your trademark) and the colors have come out superbly. the light falling across the scene is wonderful, especially looking at that dark and foreboding sky behind! Really nicely done.
Thanks as ever

stunning shot of your TE base. I love the light in this shot, it is flawlessly managed but it is the autumnal atmosphere and colours that make it stand out so beautifully. A perfectly composed and executed image of real quality and beauty. Love it!

Ciao John, fascinating landscape, great view of lovely village with beautiful cathedral, wonderful natural colors, excellent clarity and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio
holmertz (56173) 2013-11-27 6:47
Again you were blessed with a remarkable afternoon sun, which has drenched the small town in this warm glow and saturated the already strong autumn colours. Judging from the shadows on the far bank of the river, coming from trees behiind you, the sun must have been very low at the time. The town looks nice, and its environments are beautiful, but it's really the tremendous colours, the crisp light and the perfect sharpness that characterize this photo.
saxo042 (37910) 2013-11-27 7:34
I understand you had a very good meeting here, a pity that Scotland is so far away... This is a very beautiful picture with a motive that any painter should have liked. This is very picturesque with the water bringing a diagonal dark line beneath the sunlit village and the pleasant autumnal trees above the pretty village. A very attractive picture!
romanaa (7998) 2013-11-27 11:42
what a beautiful light on your fine composition. I especially love the autumnal colours that just shine out of the greens. The golden straws stand out against the dark water in the foreground.
chawax (20758) 2013-11-27 13:20
A wonderful light, great autumn colours and good POV, it makes a very good shot !
ourania (48802) 2013-11-27 13:43
this is a captivating view, you have captured the beauty of the scenery and the majestic play of the light all over it in a marvellous way. You've balanced your composition exquisitely, using the lines of the scenery as well as the great perspective you chose. The lighting is extremely interesting, its many variations and the tonal richness they offer make the view so vibrant and fascinating. Excellent depth and clarity make the view even more inviting. Congratulations and thank you! I'd also like to thank you from my heart for your lovely, encouraging words!
All the best, have a great evening,

I've been there, haven't I? Gorgeous light, and the Autumn colours are excellently rendered. Thanks for the email about Groups. Although it wasn't quite there (I was trying to create a Theme), there were sufficient clues for me to work out the rest. So thanks to you and Ann for the help.

très joli POV sur ce paysage éclairé d'une belle lumière automnale qui donne toutes ces magnifiques couleurs.

That must have been a fun get together for sure, and what an absolutely beautiful location this was to have done so!
My word, this is right out of the pages of a Fall festival, full of rich color and glorious sunlight. I actually like the darker, cloud filled sky here with the traces of blue peeking through as the sun highlights the countryside from the opposite direction. The atmosphere in this shot is palpable, I'm rather enjoying just sitting back and soaking it all up! :)
A strong composition as usual, it's a delightful visual journey that easily leads from left to right and I think the subtle panoramic format suits this to perfection. Quite a picturesque rendition of this town John, looks gorgeous!
Friendly wishes from across the pond,
mkamionka (39179) 2013-11-28 5:31
wow, I see I have missed THE point of this meeting. This is spectacular but also you had an amazing light that day or this moment as the clouds seem to move along. Very impressive view. Strong light (and your processing a bit as well) emphasized the variety of color tones of nature. Autumn -no doubts.
I can't believe it is the same town I have visited!
Romano46 (18472) 2013-11-28 8:16
Ciao e buona serata
annjackman (21901) 2013-11-29 10:24
This really stands out from the page with fabulous light and colours. I remember the light being very good so I know the colour saturation is very close to what it was. Perfect sharpness and composition. Including a bit of the near bank was essential.
Kind Regards, Ann

Ciao caro Giovanni
Ahh the light the light, it's all about the light. The warm tones, the dappled shade and the brilliant colours combine so beautifully. I like the panoramic cut and everything is sharp and well-composed as usual. Special mention for the church spire and the golden reeds in the foreground.
Thanks for sharing, un abbraccio

you have found a lovely autumnal light here. A well composed image with the church steeple on the thirds line and the river at a slight diagonal to give dynamism.
