Lake Parramatta Reserve is a 60 hectare bush and parkland reserve located within two kilometres of the Parramatta CBD.
The lake was Parramatta's water supply until 1909, and the original function of the reserve was to protect its water quality.
The reserve is now recognised as one of the most significant and beautiful bushland remnants in Western Sydney. Surveys undertaken in 1990 and 2001 identified 67 species of native birds, 12 species of reptile, 5 frog species and 13 native species of mammal, plus several exotic species of birds and mammals, as well as wild flowers, living in the reserve.
Evidence still remains of the regular usage and occupation by the Aboriginal Burramattagal clan within Lake Parramatta Reserve and Hunts Creek. It exists in the form of shelter caves, hand-stencils, stone flaking, tree scars and midden deposits. The local Aboriginal Community and Parramatta City Council have in recent years, established a Bushfoods Garden and Walk to show these remarkable items to visitors. Brochures on this are available at the Lake.
The catchment area for the Lake is bound by North Rocks Road, James Ruse Drive and Pennant Hills Road. The bushland extends beyond the boundary of the reserve along the banks of Hunts Creek. Access is from Lackey Street off Bourke Street, in North Parramatta.
The reserve is open all year round, with the main gate opening at 6:30am and closed at 5:30pm (7:30pm during daylight saving). It offers ample parking, picnicking and BBQ facilities, playgrounds and bushwalking tracks.
Lake Parramatta is an ideal location for family outings, exercising, nature-watching or excursions.

Beautiful setting, beautiful light and great composition with the sun beams and the patches of light on the water, the reflections, the vegetation and the rocks. Excellent job.
I have never been there but will certainly check out this location this summer.

Hello Les - What a pleasure to have a place like this within walking distance of a city centre. I see you made an early start and must have experienced the tranquility of the setting which your shot conveys so well. You have captured the sunbeams really well and I love the dappled play of light on the water. A special early morning atmosphere and very attractively presented moment. Warm regards Rosemary

Hello Leslie ,
A fine corner of nature , with a calm and peaceful atmosphere . I like especially the sun beams and the Brown rocks with their reflections in the FG .

Serene, calm and tranquil are synonymous, but all of them come to my mind when I see this photo. I love the beams of sun light creeping through the trees and creating these wonderful light and shadow patterns on the calm water. A quality photo with good colors, composition, light and clarity. Very well done and thanks for sharing.

Ciao e buona serata

Fine view of Parramatta, the mirror surfaced pond with vegetation, then the sun rays striking through the trees with golden water reflections.

Lots of beautiful green and yellow tones of the vegetation while the white trunks provide a somewhat unusual image.
The different colours are also well reflected in the lake and the blue water on the foreground contrasts strong with the warm tones of the well lit rock.
Best regards, Paul

wow, what a view. Like the sharp presentation. Nice colour tone. I like the reflection a lot. The lens flare is added a lot to it. Superb shot. Tfs.

Ahh here we are, just after talking about Parramatta and you send this! Such a beautiful tranquil scene, made all the more ethereal by the rays of light at the top of the frame. Unfortunately when you were last in Oz you didn't get to meet our fellow TE'er Graham (BurraBurra). You might be interested to know that he is from the clan you mention in your note! One of Nature's gentlemen, and I hope you meet him one day.
