Photographer's Note
now and again i wake up early in the morning, toss and turn for a while, make a cup of tea, or watch TV for a while, before returning to bed. on this occasion however, i looked out of the window and noticed stars in the sky. thinking that there might be a good sunrise, i drove to newcastle, county down.
unsurprisingly at half five in the morning i had the beach to myself. the half hour before sunrise provided the best opportunities to get some pictures. by the time i arrived in work, i was ready for bed though.

Hello Brian,
It's really a fantastic shot!
Well composed with the diagonal line of the poles in the water.
I like specially those big pebbles in the water on the FG. Most are black or white or brown. And there's even a beautiful red one.
You have really a lot of courage to get up so early to drive to the sea.
Best regards, Paul

I like the pastel tones of the sunrise while the wavebreaker providing with the suitable depth.

So much relaxing.

Hello Brian - This is really beautiful! I love the composition with the strong leading line and follow through by the wooden posts. The water is perfect and the FG detail with water wisps and colourful pebbles amongst the best I have seen..... and I look at many landscape shots. The effect of the reflections on the water is so finely captured I am envious! One of, if not, your best shots. I wish it was my work! Warm regards and well worth the early morning. Rosemary

Hello Brian
You can take pills for that you know. Mind you if you had, you'd have been tucked up in bed and missed this beautiful scene. And you had the presence of mind to take a tripod with you. You're not as stupid as I look. I love what the long exposure has done to the water. I used to live in Newcastle, NSW. Apropos of nothing.

Hello Brian,
If ever there was a good reason for getting out of your scratcher at five o'clock in the morning, the capture of this photograph must rank high on the list.
Firstly, the composition is superb with the skeletal remains of a groyne or jetty leading the eye toward the light on the horizon. But it is the light itself which really is the star of the show in this photograph - light that diffuses throughout the picture in wonderful tones from warm pink to cool blue, so subtle in the distance and yet so strong in the foreground where the sea-washed pebbles are radiantly colourful.
Your long exposure has smoothed the water beautifully, the exposure itself is perfect and the sharpness exquisite.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Brian,
What a perfect capture with wonderful pink and blue tones that is made even more dream-like with the long exposure giving a silk-like quality to the water. I like the shiny, coloured pebbles in the FG and the diagonal of the old posts that are such an important part of the composition.
A favourite for me.
Best wishes, Ann

Hello Brian
The peebles in the moving water are like diamonds in a dreamy silk presentation, the color of the water is incredible and you got a stunning perspective with the wooden poles. Never fancy it should be in North England !

Hello Brian,
I think I would be feeling tired, too after such a restless night, but it did not affect your photography skills.
Your pov is lovely, with the groynes emerging from the r/h corner and leading towards the horizon, through a mist of blues and pinks.
The slow shutter speed has created an atmosphere of myth, where spirits walk and dragons prowl.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hi Brian
Well worth your early get up. But I can believe your day was wrecked thereafter ( I've tried it too, but prefer to keep my sunrises to winter time now ! )
I love the ethereal mood you have caught here, the sea like a mist around the rocks, and the beautiful lilac red blue tones stretching right across your picture.
The headland gives it a key, and the groyne timbers provide a wonderful focal point.
Delightful !

Gidday Brian
I could have had whales breaching and David Beckham swimming nude in my shot and it wouldn't have trumped this! Wow, it's simply stunning. The best photo I've seen in ages. Those pastel tones, particularly the blue are exquisite and I love how the coloured stones appear through the "mist" to add texture and even more texture. The pinkish tones on the horizon are the icing on the cake. Now let me guess: you were using a CPL and grey grad filter? Excellent use of your gadgets to produce an extraordinary photo. Can I make a request? I'd love to see any vertical or landscape shots you had without the headland and just that row of wooden palings in the sea. I'll keep coming back to this one all day, congratulations.
Cheers

Hello Brian,
top quality work,an absolutely stunning shot.
The composition using the groins across the verticals is first class, whilst the choice of exposure settings has flattened the sea beautifully.
Perfectly sharp throughout with gorgeous early morning colours.

Hello Brian,
this is a brilliant composition a very beautiful sight which you had the good sense to seek, the great luck to see and fine art to capture. The wooden poles anchor the scene and give it perspective. I love the clear textures of the wet pebbles on the foreground gradually getting blurry and then vanishing under the silky textured water. The colours are fantastic, the play of pale pink, blue and purple is captivating. I love the chromatic and lighting variations on the horizon. An exquisite picture masterfully composed and lit, congratulations and thank you!
All the best,
Ourania
