Good Morning Everyone,
I was viewing my archive, reliving some happy moments, when I came upon this shot which I took from my hotel window, when we were visiting New York.
The view is of the Hudson River, just after sunset, when the lights of the skyscrapers and the lights from the ferry added an extra sparkle to the sky colours supplied by Nature.
This was the part of the river in the Financial Region, just up the Esplanade from Battery Park.
Have a lovely day, Everyone, Bev :-)

Bonjour, chère Bev,
Excellente initiative de mettre au jour cette photo de 2010. La beauté naturelle de l'ensemble est fort agréable à contempler.
Très belle réalisation.

I do remember these buildings too, if you remember I have posted a few photos from helicopter and the Battery park is the first place on Manhattan when you get up from that helic's station. Good exposure, wonderful evening colors, special thanks for this original composition, the left buildings looks like a part of frame.
All the best wishes,

A lovely capture of a New York sunset, nice detail.
Taken at about 8:53pm according to the big clock on the water front to the left.

nice to see some different views of NYC. This is a subtle and beautiful sunset shot. It captures the atmosphere of the Big Apple in a more relaxed mood. The clock looks amazing too!
Have a good week - B.

The red clock with the red light figures is a nice small detail.
Also the sky scraper as contrast against the pink sky makes your picture nice.
This is a wonderful panorama view about these area.
Excellent composition and nice presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice week,

Une très belle photo de tes archives.La plus belle heure pour photographier NY à mon avis. Ton point de vue est idéal et la longue exposition fait très bien ressortir les détails architecturaux.

First thought that came to mind when saw this, Beverly, was that you jst made another trip to NYC recently - than saw the date...
Lights of the building across the Hudson and the red lights of the big clock are most fascinating sight at sunset.
Managed beautifully, the vessel cruising added dynamism and there is fine clarity and DOF.
I'd crop the left-side building alltogether, my humble opinion.

I bet you won't have a view like this from every hotel in New York. Looking out at something like this would be worth half of the journey. The effect of the skyscrapers is underscored by the distance between them, leaving so much space for the fine colours and light of the sunset. The boat contributes to the fine atmosphere and I also like the inclusion of the nearest building to the left. This is excellently exposed and the sharpness is perfect.

complimenti, un tramonto bellissimo in una città simbolo.
Ottima composizione e bei colori, non si può chiedere di più.

A unique image of the big apple, and a very appealing one too. As a big fan of modern skyscrapers, I instantly like this, but the combination of the towers and that magical sky is just superb. This could almost be a scene from a faraway planet that we see in the star wars movie. Enchanting and very beautiful result.
photographer_sg (4414) 2014-07-07 11:55
This is superbly done! A spectacular view of the skyscrapers against the dramatic sky. And the lights definitely enhance the visual appeal of the picture. The exposure is perfectly controlled and the colours managed really well.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice day.

I saw this one very briefly this morning just as I was about to go out - and I see that you've changed its title. Your original title was something like "A view from my window" and my immediate thought was that Bev must have bought herself some super dooper terribly long lens to get this shot from her window in Trawden. But, now having read your note (and a slightly more appropriate title) I understand all!
This is a beautiful shot but, displayed on the "new" TE website, it has ceratinly lost a lot of its sharpness and "punch". At its full size of 875 pixels wide (as seen on "beta" TE) it is specatcularly clear and sharp but the "shrinking" done on the new site really does degrade the quality and sharpness a great deal. Funnily enough, I feel that the degradation is worse if the uploaded image is just about 800 - 900 pixels wide, whereas pictures posted much larger at, say, 1200 pixels in width seem to suffer a lot less.
Incidentally, you might have read the posts which Mariusz and I put on the forum recently - you can follow it here if you're interested. Unfortunately, nothing much appears to have been done to solve the problem.
Anyway, Bev, this is a delightful night time photograph with the tall buildings beautifully silhouetted aagainst a glorious sky and with a beautiful soft sheen on the Hudson River too. Gorgeous light and colours, a fine composition and excellent sharpness - when viewed at its proper size.

Great to see a different capture of NY, not Manhattan but New Jersey
The colors of sky and buildings are quite eye catching
Like the inclusion of the ferry along in the river and a red clock at the far left?
Well done, creative capture
williewhistler (16398) 2014-07-07 23:42
I do like the outlined sky scrapers against that so attractive night sky with the bright red clock perfectly placed in the frame adding a very nice touch.
Upping the ISO seems to have had no ill effects with very little noise apparent at least not on my screen.
Warm regards Les.

its fun to re-live some of the older photos from trips isn't it - lots of memories come flooding back.
smart crop on the left, with attention to detail - not cutting off the windows. You'd be surprised how many people do that and it frustrates me lol
you show us a truly different shot of NYC, one that we havn't really seen before.

i can see that you did a good decision when it comes to choose a hotel room. Excellent view!(i saw a dirty brick wall from my window during my first visit in NYC :D)Beautiful light&colors in this scene and the boat on Hudson river brings life to this impressive view.

As I'm in the middle of posting NYC pictures, this one certainly calls out to me. :) Not a view seen too often here, looking over the river to the New Jersey side. Great use of your time in the hotel room, and a lovely time it was to have enjoyed this sunset. The dark cast over the scene, combined with the fading colors in the sky create a soothing mood, and a nice way to finish off a busy day in the city.
I always like to imagine what's happening in each of the lit windows at the time this was snapped. have you tried to count how many are in this picture? Yeah, me neither....I got to three and gave up, far too many. :) Thanks for providing an non-traditional view from the Big Apple. Have a great day ahead. All the best.

It's a beautifully conceived and executed shot. Te structure on the left is of crucial for the composition in photo. The exposure is first rate. I see that you were still using a Nikon D200 in this shot. Are you happier with the D300? I still have the former.
Have a good weekend,
SWEETFREEDOM (24621) 2014-07-13 4:00

Superbe nocturne, une image d'une grande qualité, top dans le cadrage, la prise des lumières, le soleil couchant et ces jolies teintes bleuté dans le ciel, magnifique
mkamionka (37259) 2014-07-16 7:28
some places are changing so fast that I would not be able to recognize them after a while and of course visiting for few days one cannot see all possible POV so in the end I wouldn't be able to tell that this is NYC.
Great view from the window. The sky was magnificent and the water surface adds a nice touch as well by reflecting the low light.
Very good idea to include the fragment of the building in the foreground on the left.
npecanhuk (75502) 2014-08-02 7:41
A not ver usual subject for the NYC area and I truly like you've chosen it!
Attractive picture indeed!
Special regards to the exposure, colors, chosen pov and composition!
TFS - congrats,
Enjoy your week-end,
