Up on the slopes of Mt Washington Vancouver Island I heard that they had more snow for skiers than any other place on the planet. Because of the high volume of moisture from the Pacific Ocean last week this ski resort had over 500 cm of snow.
This morning my wife and I trekked up these slopes to check out the scenery. I liked how the morning light carved out these details on the slopes. When the trees are completely covered like this they call them snow ghosts. Enjoy.

The snow is perfectly exposed with fine detail and textures. The soft, round shapes offer a pleasant visual impact... I don't remember seeing trees with that much snow on them (i live far from snow!)
Greetings and also wish you an excellent 2011!

Pretty photo. Composition is perfect, the slopes make diagonal line. Sharp, I can see blink on the snow.

I thought we had a lot of snow here last December ... but 500 cm, that's something different!
Very beautiful capture of the snow with its gentle curves over the branches. We see snow crystals sparkling in the sunlight.
Best regards, Paul

Beautiful winter image showing masses of fresh snow on sloping terrain. Direction of light is perfect showing the texture of snow clearly and with strong contrast.

They surely look like ghosts Paul. They seem to cover the tree like a foam, and the ghosts reminded me of ststues in front of old ships.

great photo with wonderful light and very interesting snowy shapes. The first shape from the right looks like a parrot ;)

Great job Paul ! And excellent idea of the tilt . These snowy formations are really esthaetics . Blue tonalities for the snow is a choice : it works well for my taste .
samson (1355) 2011-01-04 2:03
The trees sure look ghostly. A scene I would never see in my country in a lifetime.
But we have sunny skies !!!

Good Morning Paul,
This is a photographer's dream! And, you have captured it with great artistry. Excellent diagonal composition to show the gigantic sculptures proud against the clear, blue sky. Your light management is great, capitalising on the light and shadows. The twinkling ice looks like sugar!
My warm regards,

Ces "sculptures de neige" naturelles sont de toute beauté sous cette belle lumière. Belle maitrise technique pour cette photo réussie.
Bonne année 2011

A stunner, this one, with those apparent tree sculptures towering over the viewer, and the tilt making a superb diagonal across the blue of the sky. It had to be a square frame! You exposed this very well indeed, revealing the full detail of the snow. A really superb exercise in displaying light and shadow.
I hope you had a happy new year, and best wishes for 2011.

Wonderful winter picture!
Focusing on the details of that slope, with all that snow covering the ground and plants, was such a great idea and the visual results are truly eye-catching!
Superb contrast with the bluest sky above!
TFS - congrats,

Sometimes the nature does on that our fantasies
put themselves to the service of our imagination
and we see phantasmagoric forms in what
they are simple accumulations of snow in the trees,
good work my friend ...
of light, color and textures.

this is a classic PJE shot!
my favorite parts are the glowing snow crystals popping out, love the sparkle effect.
and how can you not like the forms and shapes created by mother nature.
Keep in touch, i'm up for a meeting in chilliwack or abbotsford...some barn shots or nature shots.

Good close up focusing on detail, and the snow formation is attractive enough inviting eye to explore deeper. The textures and shadows add a very good depth while the rich colors are simply awesome. Not foregetting the coposition and pov is effective to make this a satisfying shot. Well done. TFS

This seems almost like an abstract painting! The textures, tones and plays of light make it look three-dimensional. I love the dominant blue and white. You have spotted this interesting subject well and have turned it into a work of art. TFS and I wish you a beautiful day.
Warm regards from too warm Sydney
