Moai or Sphinx, Mourèze

One view.
Another view.

In the Cirque de Mourèze, this curious rock, said the SPHINX, under this angle reminds the moais of the Pâques island.

The DOLOMITIC CHAOS OF MOURÈZE presents rocky curiosities with appropriate names, as the SPHINX, in the DOLOMITIC CIRQUE OF MOURÈZE, close to the Mourèze.

_ For the amateurs, in Hérault, a short hike of about 10 Kilometers through the dolomitic Cirque of Mourèze before climbing the mount Liausson to 535 meters altitude, above the Salagou lake, near the village of Liausson. Although relatively short, this hike obliges to climb and to go down very pronounced slopes, by at the same time difficult and pleasant paths.

_ From the top, we also discover the mountain of Caroux and the mountain of Espinouze, the "red ruffes" of the Salagou lake area, the foothills of Causse du Larzac, the mountain of Séranne, the Pic Saint-Loup, and the Mediterranean Sea.

MOURÈZE is a french municipality, located in the department of the hérault of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 170 Mourèzois en 2009, distributed out of 13,4 km², that is to say 12.7 hab./km².

The man occupied natural shelters from -7000 to -450 before J.-C. near the Cirque of Mourèze.

The village shelters a monument to 105 dead men of the Maquis Bir-Hakeim.
