Klima, is one of the typical seaside, traditional fishing villages of Milos, known as "Syrmata", probably the most colourful and famous among them. In fact "syrmata" is the name of the small houses of this kind of settlements.
But why "syrmata"? They are called like this because they have a special mechanism to "syroun" (=draw) the boats inside during winter. Sometimes they have two floors (each floor never bigger than 20-25 square meters, and some other times only one floor "built" inside a cave. During summer the inhabitants of the inland, put their boats in the sea and use "syrmata" as summer "villas". Only the absolutely necessary (a bed, a table, two chairs and a small kitchen) fit in there. I like to call them the "apotheosis of minimalism".
What I really like about "Syrmata" is that they could be very touristic places (especially colourful Klima), but they still keep their "character" intact. Times flows soft and sweet, gently and slowly there. Do you want a proof? Just check the man sitting on the motorcycle, he practically remained "frozen" for 25 seconds !?!?!?

Fascinating picture with all these beautiful and colourful light.
I’m wondering what the lost and frozen motor rider is doing at this place. It looks more a place to visit by boat.

Geia sou Hrakli,
I know perfectly those Syrmata of Klima because I made a watercolor of the same place and I spent a lot of time to loog at the houses!!!
But it was during the day and there was no this extraordinary light.
I believe that the place is even more fantastic at this blue hour.
There is a thing which I don't understand it is as the boy on the motorcycle can remain so sharp with 26 seconds of exposure. It is a friend of you and you asked him not to move?
macondo (17951) 2009-06-27 10:47
Beautiful shot, Hercules, with that wonderful copper light on the hillside and reflected so well in the water. Clear, sharp and a nice angle of view. The blue and golden tones make good companions in this mellow evening scene. And thanks for the very interesting note.

hyasar (7741) 2009-06-27 10:59
colors, composition superb. But the major interest on my side is the man, the frozen man :) How did you convince him being frozen for 25 seconds :))) I guess the most important success point in this photo is that :)
anesugur (18757) 2009-06-27 13:16
Very well composed image with wonderful color tones, clarity and good POV.
Thanks and best wishes. Uğur

In september I will be in Milos. I will try to compete with you. Hard to do.
coco (30433) 2009-06-27 14:27

very interesting place and note..
an awesome photo indeed with beautiful
colorful reflection, and lighting, warm atmosphere
and one thing caught my attention, the towels on the

Impressive light and reflections on water, very well captured at the good moment, interesting and original result to show us this place.

Nice one here. Great colors and reflections in low light. I also like the effect of a very slow shutter speed - a silky water surface. TFS. Gerald

"Time flows soft and sweet" is the perfect phrase to describe this lovely place.I would love to be there but a common tourist like me would spoil the place I guess. The contemplative motocyclist (now there is a novelty!) is perfectly placed. It is as if he is lulled by the evening light. A beautiful lights and such nice colours and reflections.
mkamionka (24589) 2009-07-02 5:32
another jaw dropping view.
It has a fantastic atmosphere. The architecture is really special, I believe it is a bit common for Mediterranean.
Your composition is perfect, you have cut a very interesting fragment of the village.
The colors are great too.
Perfect work, TFS
Kielia (20477) 2009-07-02 12:46
congratulation, this is an outstanding night shot! Excellent POV on this cozy place. The colors and the contrasts are very beautiful. And your note is also very interesting. But what I like most is this fantastic light. TFS!
