Photographer's Note

A new photo taken in the alleys of the old town of Menton in the early hours while the city wakes up slowly. The dark alleys, real labyrinth, go downhill of the castle up to the sea and in the district of the old harbor.

Une nouvelle photo prise dans les ruelles de la vieille ville de Menton au petit matin alors que la ville s'éveille doucement. Les ruelles obscures, véritable labyrinthe, dévalent du château jusqu’à la mer et au quartier du vieux port.

Hi, well composed, I like how the 'outgoing' lady opposite the lamp in the front increase the depth, on the background of the pastel colours.

Ces pittoresques ruelles offrent un nombre infini de sujets photo . Alors il faut trouver le bon angle , et ce qui fait la différence . Ici , c'est très bien , avec les deux lampions au bon endroit , et surtout la femme en noir .

beautiful narrow street,so colorful and lively.Love these kind of streets and architectura,which are very picturesque and charming.You framed this street scene perfectly and were also able to cope well with difficult lighting.I´ve also tried to take some pictures in such narrow streets and always get the upper part of the photo tohether with the sky overexposed.But you did it great.

Tes photos de Menton sont une réélle invitation aux vacances...
Ces ruelles étroites sont photogéniques, et tu en as exploité tous les recoins semble-t-il.
La passante en noir contre les façades colorées est très bien intégrée et anime la ruelle encore endormie.

Hello Jean Jacques,

A superb diffused light which is the best kind, when photographing these narrow alleys. I have tried shooting narrow alleys in full sunlight in Nepal, & the highlights were oe & the shadows too black. The silhouetted woman at left animates the shot & she provides scale. Tfs!

Hello Jean Jacques - Perhaps the best of this series, you have captured the narrowness of the alley so superbly and this is emphasised by the vertical composition and height of the buildings. I find the details very interesting, colours are soft and lovely too. Warm regards rosemary
PS. The inclusion of the figure underlines the 'human' touches in the shot - plants, washing etc.

Plus facile de se rendre au port que de revenir à la maison si j'en crois la très grande dénivellation illustrée dans cette belle composition. Comme toujours les couleurs sont très belles.

Pas facile de faire aussi bien. Tu donnes un beau rôle aux lanternes ; les couleurs des façades sont bien restituées dans des teintes subtiles et naturelles. Tout cela dans des conditions de lumière difficiles dans une ruelle. Très bonne prise.

Marvelous light management as others have noted! I am noting your filter and exposure information...
The dark silhouettes of the woman and the cul-de-sac at the end are beautifully placed but what also strikes my eye is that the lamp at upper right is perfectly placed so as to frame details on the wall behind. Amazing! You have such a sharp eye for every compositional detail. Bravo!

Menton a un air des Cinque Terre je trouve... On a même le linge qui pendouille.
Une composition très bien construite. La femme ne pouvait pas être mieux placée et son élégance renforce l'élégance générale de la photo.
Le genre de photos qui me donnent envie de voyager et de découvrir et sentir ces ruelle.
Très jolie photo.
