‘Medellín - Murals in Comuna 13’
Back to Comuna 13, the barrio of Medellín where the majority of the conflict between the government and guerilla groups had taken place. In that time also 10 hip-hop artists were murdered because they tried to put an end to the violence.
Today it’s a district where both government programmes and the local commmunity are working hard to create a better future for the residents ... and art has become an instrument for the promotion of peace.
The local government has invested millions of dollars in paint for local residents and they also allowed the local artists to paint murals all over the barrio.
It’s remarkable to see that this gives many residents of Comuna 13 faith in the local politicians and that safety has improved a lot since then.
Today local artists share their passion for art with the residents. This exerts a positive influence on the disadvantaged youth.
The murals also serve as a historical record because many of them show the violent past of the city.
In the workshop you can see the elephants of Comuna 13.
You've seen the children (brother and sister) of the main picture already before in a previous workshop.

Bonjour, cher Paul,
Bravo pour cette réussite photographique qui réunit les meilleurs ingrédients.
Les couleurs claquent joliment.

You show us today another quite sensational set of photos. They are all characterized by very good colours and sharpness, not just their common theme of showing life in this district. What I wonder when I see these photos, and the earlier ones, is whether other poor areas of Medellin have also received government money for making life better (and more colourful), or if Comuna 13 has received everything because of its special history.

Heel mooie foto trouwens, perfect gedaan, bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost Vlaanderen

Tu ne pouvais pas trouver arrière plan plus beau et coloré pur mettre en scène ces deux cabotins souriants et heureux.Tu devais bei avoir envie de faire sauter le scooter.

This is such a wonderfully vibrant mural, what a clear, everyday reminder about the peace process!
Those steady eyes are forever looking at the passers-by, and metamorphosing into the wild creatures, the natural b/g of the country.
The children look happy, playing without concern.
I like the elephant mural, too.
It is quite extraordinary how the written message can so easily be perceived as a blue sky!
Have a good Sunday,

A colorful shot incorporating children being children, a motorscooter seemingly a part of the mural, and the mural itself. I like this shot very much. Your engaging note explains the site of criminal and police confrontation, now a site with a future.

I love urban art, and the examples you've shared are bright and beautiful. The children in the main photo are also very amusing. :-) The roads look a bit dangerous; you have to pay close attention when driving there! That giant slide in the middle of all those houses is an interesting idea, too. Your posts from Medellin have really been great ones.

Een prachtige, kleurrijke muurschildering. Het vormt een uitstekende achtergrond voor de twee kinderen, van wie het meisje wel heel halsbrekende toeren uithaalt. De scooter is ook een mooi detail. Goed gezien.

Good to see some positive improvements have been brought about in this section of the city. The red parrot and the white bearded man are eye catching elements in this superb street art. Tfs!

A wonderfully colourful wall painting well worth showing us. Red feathers of the parrot look very realistic. And the kids are so cute posing to you. I also like the scooter although it's not one of the classic Vespa models.

Murals are visible in many places on the planet but it seems that it's most common in South America.? Murals are a nice subject for photographers, especially in this scene with two cute children in front of it:) I like murals very much, especially when there are talented artist who make them. The scooter is a bit disturbing(but not much to do about that)otherwise an excellent shot, well composed and a interesting note, as allways! Tfs!
Have a nice evening/

Wow ..... spectacular the power of the colorful of this image, the mural is fantastic and I like its composition, great moment with the children playing in front, the motorcycle adds another citizen touch to the scene.
A magnificent color that gives a lot of chromatic richness to the image.
Very good lighting management and very good sharpness.
Well done. I like it.
I wish you a nice week.
Very best regards.
