This is taken at one of the beaches in Golden Gate National Recreation Area in The Marin Headlands areas. Click on image to see large version. Most people just stop to overlook the view of the bridge, you can actually continue and there are hiking trails down to the beach and there is also Point Bonita Light House which I find very picturesque.
The Marin Headlands is a hilly area at the southernmost end of Marin County, California, above the Golden Gate. The Headlands are located just north of San Francisco, immediately across the Golden Gate Bridge. The entire area is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The Headlands are famous for their stunning views of the Bay Area, especially the Golden Gate Bridge.

Very well chosen POV.
cherryripe (21033) 2008-12-15 11:07
What a beautiful day to see the bridge, especially when it's so often hidden by fog. Great pov underneath with the city so clear. I love the line of froth on the beach.
plimrn (21344) 2008-12-15 11:18
Hi Way Ne,
This is not a usual POV which adds nto the attraction of this sharply-focused with nicely saturated colors.

J'aime vraiment bien ce pont de San Francisco avec les vagues qui viennent vers nous (vers toi).
J'aime bien la ville de San Francisco qui est là, entourée de la mer.
J'aime bien l'aspect naturel avec l'eau et les rochers.
Salut ! P'tit Caïd

Splendid shot from a most unusual angle, if compared to the average Golden Gate perspectives we all see day in day out. Yes, you are definitely right : all it takes is using head & feet and start hiking... Striking light management, wonderful colors and definition, superb view, TFS! Have a nice day, my friend. See ya soon,

To me this POV from on a beach is really new. I like this view on the city under the bridge, a white city between a deep blue sky and a blue bay and with a big red bridge from one side of the pic to the other.
Very beautiful weather for the end of November. Or is that usual for San Francisco ?
Best regards, Paul

I've seen most of the Golden Gate images which captured from a upperview and very nice to this one which captured from the beach with the nice waves!
looks like there still a lot of great spot for photographing opportunity along the beach area!
very nice view with good colour contrast and superb details from the sharpness of it!
many thanks for the sharing

you're lucky to get the golden gate without gog
I was there in 2005 but...so deep fog we could hardly see a part of it

Hello Way! What a great corner you chose for this wonderful photo. I was just trying to picture where you stood. Lovely how we can see the town "under" the bridge and again this great blue skies, it is so amazingly clear. November is the month to visit!!! I like the inclusion of the little beach on the side and the moving water, probably ways to cold to go in :)))) Lovely picture, Way, I like it a lot. Have a wonderful morning, once you are up. It is still dark outside but nearly 8.30 a.m. ... Barbara.

Wonderful this point of view! Is this a stich, or did you cut off part of the top and bottom. Very nice wideness here!
danos (101838) 2008-12-16 4:45
nice shot with an excellent management of the brilliant light and the vivid colors.I like the details in the LV as the city that is captured under the bridge and make the scene more interesting. The placement of the horizontal main part of the bridge is well chosen.Well done.

I love this bridge, unfortunately I don't know it! However, it's always great to see it in pictures, specially in excellent ones like this one of yours! The large version is fantastic, with incredible photo qualities and it's really pleased me!
TFS - Congratulations!

Your large post is superb, full of details.
Great composition, with each element situated at the right place
From this low pov too, this bridge is sooo impressive!
Kielia (24077) 2008-12-16 9:15
outstanding POV on this famous bridge and a very beautiful atmosphere of the seaside. The colors are brilliant. I also like the wonderful light very much. My compliments!
patdeph (35748) 2008-12-16 9:18
the POV is superb, the way you have framed is excellent with the town under the bridge, and I like very much the contrast of the red bridge and the white buildings with the blue sky and water! The light enhance the beauty of the red and gives magnificent warm colors to the rocks! The large version is really superb!
mark_mk (266) 2008-12-16 9:52
I remember this spot right under the Golden Gate, such a beautiful spot to just relax and of course take some pictures. Beautiful colors and the large version is a pleasure for the eyes, very well done shot!
Sistercosmo (242) 2008-12-16 14:27
one of the world's most photographed bridges, but you managed to get it in a beautiful, original pov!! Excellent stitch with amazing details, expecially in the large version. If I were a teacher, I'd give this an A+! But since I'm just Linda, I'll say that this is a fabulous photo!! :-)
Thanks for showing us this side of the bridge and take good care!
paololg (31448) 2008-12-16 15:01
Ciao dear Way,
I have looked at the large version in all of its stupendous details, appreciating the perfect sharpness and the intense colors. I like a lot this composition, it has a beautiful light. Compliments!
alftrek (3270) 2008-12-16 15:53
An impressive panoramic view of the Golden Gate bridge on a bright day with blue sky which contrast well with the red bridge structure and the white city skyline just beneath the bridge span. The FG froth adds tremendous depth to this POV.
phwall (6785) 2008-12-17 0:42
OK that settles it, I'm going to do a similar shot of Sydney Harbour bridge, you can't have this icon stuff all to yourself. This POV is stunning, the bridge looks fantastic and that sky....brilliant.
Stunning shot Way, you've brained this one.
trekks (14348) 2008-12-17 8:07
Not many versions of this bridge is from this low angle, with most at the left end of approach, so your search for this POV is bearing good result. I like what I see here and you have balanced the composition of the city very nicely under the bridge deck.
The best part is the bright light and blue sky to really highlight the red color of the bridge.
clio (27961) 2008-12-17 10:07
The contrast of colors is magnificent. I like your choice to make the neatness on the background what allows us to discover perfectly the city.
The centring is excellent, the large version is really very great!
aadilj (18102) 2008-12-18 3:12
This is perhaps a lesson in how to make a much photographed icon look ever more beautiful and fresh. Lovely work Way. I love the way its been composed
capthaddock (28790) 2008-12-19 18:57
Fantastic angle and shot, I see a dust spot on your sensor to the right of the left pier :-)
Thanks for your recent comment, I'm flickring out of TE.
Silversnow (2319) 2008-12-23 10:35
Simply superb POV, great evening lights (lemme check... yep, coming from the sea on the west coast ;)
Overall superb composition and great large version.
jmcl (14535) 2008-12-27 10:10
great point of view .. the panoramic format amplifies the length of the bridge ..
I love the way the dark blue sky amplifies the light of the bridge, city, and stone ..
sevy (58) 2009-01-15 3:52
Nice point of view of the Golden Gate bridge. The panoramic frame is well adapted to this long bridge with in more a nice composition with the beach as starting point and the SF town in far background as end point.
danyy (0) 2009-01-18 22:38
ag1993 (634) 2009-02-05 1:38
Great Pov with nice colours and details.
sacimar (27779) 2009-04-22 10:31
excelent panoramic of this famous bridge, I like the blue tones of the sky, great perspective and excelent details with the city behind the red bridge, well done, thanks!
BilboCA (734) 2009-08-04 21:55
I find it amazing in a wonderful way that there are so many different places from which one can observe this remarkable structure. I've lived in the Bay Area for 3 decades and have never visited this beach. I'll need to go, now!!!
I like your composition very much, with a strong line formed by the water along the shore adding to the obvious horizontal and catenary lines of the bridge.
You've used the late afternoon sunshine on the land on the left nicely to complement the wonderful orange of the bridge, which of course jumps out of the sea (literally) and sky of blue.
The details are nicely resolved by the excellent clarity of your image.
jwmunro (286) 2009-11-04 18:38
Hello Way -
What a beautiful day! This is a view of the bridge and the city that is rarely seen and therefore makes it a winner in my book. I never tire of images of the bridge and the city. When I was living in Colorado the images were my connection back home. Well done!
Thank you for sharing.
Matthew-Watt (5934) 2011-01-29 16:33
Excellent photography. You have captured this icon at its very best, under a gorgeous blue sky and in a good golden light. The city of SanFran under the structure is well placed. The colourful hillside is an integral part of the composition leading to the water’s edge. The richness in the sky as a result of the polarizing filter has worked very effectively. Your postcard-like cropping technique has resulted in a very workable presentation of the golden gate. TFS.
mkamionka (39533) 2012-10-05 12:12
I have never seen a photo of the bridge from this POV. I did not even know that it is possible. Nice capture with the SF being framed with the Golden Gate from above. The colors are well saturated making the bridge really Golden.
Have a great weekend,
