Photographer's Note

Templo de Debod constitutes one of the few works of ancient Egyptian architecture which can be seen outside Egypt.
The temple was built near Aswan in southern Egypt close to the first cataract of the Nile. In the early 2nd century BC, Adikhalamani (Tabriqo), the Kushite king of Meroë, started its construction by building a small single room chapel dedicated to the god Amun. Later, during the reigns of Ptolemy VI, Ptolemy VIII and Ptolemy XII of the Ptolemaic dynasty, it was extended on all four sides to form a small temple, 12 X 15 m, which was dedicated to Isis of Philae. The Roman emperors Augustus and Tiberius completed its decorations.
In 1960, due to the construction of the Great Dam of Aswan and the consequent threat posed to several monuments and archeological sites, UNESCO made an international call to save this rich historical legacy. As a sign of gratitude for the help provided by Spain in saving the temples of Abu Simbel, the Egyptian state donated the temple of Debod to Spain in 1968.
The temple was rebuilt in Parque del Oeste, near the Royal Palace of Madrid, and opened to the public in 1972.

I knew already from the photos on TE that it looks specially beautiful in the evening. So just after I came to Madrid in the afternoon, I visited the Royal Palace and then, on sunset, I went to Debod. Nice to see Egyptian temple in Europe.

Hello Malgo,

A very well planned and executed capture of this amazing temple. I liked the diagonal composition to increase the effect of perspective and the lovely subtle reflections on the water. But the most prominent aspects of this shot are the excellent light management and outstanding colors produced. A well engineered shot, thanks. Have a lovely WE.

Hello Malgorzata, What a wonderful sunset on this structure. The arches look like they have a small fire. Absolutely marvelous shot.

I just canceled a cruise from Barcelona along the Spanish coast and the Canary Islands with stops in Morroco etc to Lisbon. 15 days. It would have been in September, but we have some conflicts in travel, and we would be going to Texas the first week of October. Too much travel. Maybe next year. I would love to see Madrid. We have been to Barcelona twice and it is a lovely city. Have a good week. Warm Regards Roger

I also took several photos in this fantastic place, but I did not do it at late afternoon, as in this case. I will return to Madrid for to try to emulate this splendid composition.
The pink and orange tones in the sky create a really pleasant atmosphere, the lighting of these elements is very elegant, and the reflections complete a beautiful image.

A wonderful apricot orange sky reflected also in the water. Good sharpness & nice symmetry of the 2 Egyptian temples relocated after the Aswan Dam was built. The third temple far right is a different more rectangular shapes but adds interest due to its columns. Tfs!

Hola querida Malgo.
Ya estoy de regreso de mis vacaciones en Canarias y me encuentro esta soberbia imagen de Madrid.
Has captado el templo con una luz fabulosa, me encanta ese color rosado del atardecer, es uno de los encuadres mas bonitos que he visto de este lugar, te felicito por tan magnifico trabajo.
El viaje ha sido una preciosidad, me han encantado las dos islas, te recorde en las curvas de Masca, pero he andado por otras carreteras similares, ha sido todo un reto con un coche que no es el tuyo.
Aun tardare un poco en tener preparadas fotos del viaje para subirlas a TE, tengo las proximas semanas con poco tiempo.

POV chosen show well the ancient monuments, Malgo.
The orange fabulous tone decor the scene, and the red illumination already lightened-up mingle well with it.
Location is attractive and can imagine it has diff. texture's in diff. times of a day.

Czesc Malgorzata,
miejsce tak dobrze znane mi z TE chociac nidy nie bylem tam osobiscie. Bardzo ladny kolor nieba i w ogole atmosfera jaka udalo Ci sie tutaj uchwycic. Rowniez odbicia -moze nie 100% ale robia ogromne wrazenie.
