Photographer's Note
Maastricht is the most important city in Limburg, an area made famous by that quirky reference in the B52's song "Dance this mess around":
"Why don't you dance with me? / I'm not no Limburger!"
Apparently, this particular reference is all about smelly cheese. But it got me puzzled for years. Limburgers must be among the nicest people on the planet and I just couldn't think of why on earth anyone would NOT want to dance with one!
Anyway, Maastricht has a rich history, going back all the way to Celtic and Roman times. It has a university, a most interesting museum (the Bonefante) and a bookstore in a converted Dominican church.
My favourite Maastrichtenaar is cross-cultural investigator Geert Hofstede. Though born elsewhere, the great man was based at Maastricht University. And the more his (inter)cultural dimensions get mentioned here, the better.
Maastricht also became famous because of the 1992 Maastricht Treaty, which led to the creation of the euro.
---
This picture was taken at the Vrijthof, the city's biggest central square. The background features the oddly coloured church of St. John, on the left.
Centrally placed is the famous church of St. Servaas. Legend has it that this Armenian-born Roman-catholic saint brought christianity to Limburg.
Just as with the Maastricht treaty and the arrival of the euro, the jury is still out to debate whether this proved to be a good move or not.

Hello Benny, nice composition here with many elements but the carriage is the one that stands out the most. I must say that the Armenian church is magnificent. Good highlights, and sharpness.

Hello Benny,
very nice this part of the main square of Maastricht, with the impressive buildings to complete the backdrop. The passing by carriage in front of your lens in the empty fortunately square, makes the image even more effective.Excellent the light and the colour management.
Have a good afternoon,Danos

Hi Benny
Impressive sharpness with the horses & carriage well positioned in the frame on the 1/3 axis. Good color and saturation with a superb diffused light & nice shadow detail. The fg branches add graphism. Tfs!

Hi Benny
Spring mood on a slightly cloudy day, I just can imagine the feeling when we are presented such a calm scene. But the colors are enough to boost the mood that make everything sparkle in particular the stunning carriage and the background. Wonderfully taken image, great dof, sharpness and clarity. A peaceful shot indeed. Congrats
Best regards

Hello Benny
On a cloudy day there 'was nothing better than putting the horse bottom color to enliven and give movement to' image. I like the POV sharpness and light management. Really a nice job.
Greetings, Regard's the best ... Marino
