One of my favourite books is The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. In this little book, which is essentially a children's book, he writes, "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly". It is something that I try to apply to my photography, especially my seascapes. There are many beautiful photos here on TE and elsewhere by many skilled photographers, but it always seems the ones that touch me are those where the artist has seen not through the view finder, but with their heart.

An image with a melancholic atmosphere that no doubt suited your mood at the time. Sombre blue tones and superb depth. The finger of light pointing toward heaven is most suggestive. Excellent photography.

You´re right Lisa there are many beautiful seascape photos here on TE,but this one beats the others!
It has no warm colors of setting or rising sun,but it has so unique, magical mood you created here so nicely. For me the combination of this light and dominating cold, blue shades makes the scene so spectacular. It could be cover of a book or poster of some movie.Really beautiful and very atmospheric shot!
It´s a pleasure to admire such magnificent pictures here on TE!

I love your note to accompany this photo, its a great way to approach photography, and one I should try more myself. The shot itself has captured emotion, that beautiful light display is a sight to behold and I can imagine this to be breath taking when you were there in person. Like a display from another world, and nice to know that this place is special to you.
This would be a very cool album cover too :)
Have a great week.

Is this shot for real ???????? The depth created by the three dominant colors in this photo is amazing and I could just stand there and keep watching until all the colors fade into the darkness and there is again something new to see with the next morning light.......... Very very beautiful........... Thnx for sharing........
Sergiom (70678) 2013-06-24 5:27
May be you saw that seascape with your heart but your technical skills were handy. I like this blue ray coming from the sky like a sign that you can interprete any way you want.
Very well done

a stand out thumbnail and stunning full size shot. The message in this image is so beautiful and the notes touched me too. Strangely the shot I posted yesterday was taken in a place that had the same effect on me......a beach where I used to play as a small child on summer holidays with close family, long gone. The sounds of the waves and wind just brought back memories of their laughter and strangely put a smile on my face........but tears in my eyes. Thanks for sharing what must be a special image for you.
Have a good week - Brian X.

Memories touch our heart.
My best friend while walking with the camera. This walk gives you time to think.

i've never read the talmud but seen this quote from that book on traczewska's intro. it says: "we don't see things as they are, we see them as we are".
unlike sciences which must be objective, arts in any forms are the most subjective things human has created. if you create art with feelings, it is like the presenting and sharing of your feelings with others. they do not need to feel the same, but when they do, you happen to think that you are not alone in this world.
i've never been an admirer of landscape photography (while i love landscapes in real life), but when it is done with feelings, it makes difference. just like other artworks, landscape photos are capable of inciting feelings related to awe, fear, contemplation, happiness, nostalgy, harmony, infinity, nihilism, compassion and even passion. this is where creativity of the mind and soul sets apart from the objectivism of documentation. and it is the first time i write so long for any landscape photo on TE. your words and your photo did this.

I would have enjoied a lot to take such photo. The first thing which came in my mind looking this shot was: Life on Mars. I feel to be on another planet with the red, the blue and the so special sky.
SnapRJW (31629) 2013-06-24 6:33
Dear Lisa - What beautiful sentiments you communicate in your note and I agree that photographs that encapsulate and convey an emotion can be both touching and powerful. This is a good example; there is a heaviness to the image, the colours are sombre and I love the way they graduate from the deep grey-blue sky to the maroon FG. There is a touching beauty to the rather austere subject. Technically well managed; the area which stands out significantly here is, to me, the flash of brighter blue which provides, a subtle but positive bright contrast. A chink of light in a sea of sadness. Excellent. Thanks for sharing such a personal photograph. Warm hugs. Rosemary
PS. I have had a complete computer crash since getting back from my hols and, as yet, am unable to even look at my holiday snaps! Now at least I can surf the net! Seems that I got infected by a trojan which came in via email purportedly from a TE member!

a very fascinating sight and an excellently composed impression of this well known beach due to your outstanding skills. The light and the colors are fantastic.
I read The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry when I was no longer a child, and the line above—along with the story of the little prince—has stayed with me into adulthood. So I can imagine what you went through.

I don't know much about filters but I guess the Lee Grey had something to do with these marvellous colours. Quite often I see pictures on TE that more resemble painting than ordinary photos, This is definitely one of them. There are some remarkable shades of mainly blue here.
ikeharel (65269) 2013-06-24 8:30
Yes i know that feel of what you had written, and recognize the place on your series.
Marvelous colors mingle and culminate to a fantastic composition in great harmony. Your masterpiece's specialite'e.

Complimenti e grazie!
Tanti saluti ed una giornata felice,
ktanska (26359) 2013-06-24 12:49
I see blues in this image. Small aperture gives sharp image all over and grad filter gives gloomy tones to the sky. Patterns on the foreground are so sharp they remind of ice. It's like late autumn in the middle of Australian summer.
Silvio1953 (133860) 2013-06-24 13:02
Ciao Lisa, favolosa esposizione, fantastica foto tutta cuore e classe, magnifica foto, bravissima, un abbraccio Silvio
grigand (19803) 2013-06-24 13:23
tyro (23020) 2013-06-24 14:57
Ciao cara Lisa,
I can perfectly understand how to stand here and take in this sublime view would provide solace for a troubled soul. And it lights up the soul which is not troubled too.
The light in the sky is simply divine and I really cannot make out what has made that streak of blue which appears centrally and seems to sweep up to top left. But the shades of blue are amazing as also are the reflections of the sky on the water and the wet sand with all colours there from blue to rich browns in the nearest foreground.
An elegant and simple composition which is anchored perfectly by the solitary rectangular rock, fabulous light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
P.S. Yes, I did receive your email (though not the first one) last week and I replied. Did you get my reply?
macjake (63232) 2013-06-24 15:20
well, what can I say about this one.
nothing I could say would sound half as elegant as your written words below.
Therefore lets just sit back and enjoy this photo, as you did taking the photo.
kordinator (20337) 2013-06-24 16:25
This is simply a magnificent capture.
An amazing place, great colors and contrast.

Really amazing composition.

pleasant pay sage with specially colors you captured.

emka (89461) 2013-06-25 4:49
Interesting what you write in your your note. I always read personal notes and skip copy-and-paste ones. It is for me important what is behind the photo - who made it and why. So I find it very annoying when some one writes about big sorrow or joy, wants to share feelings and then the comment is - nice sharpness. Probably it is not the same as seeing with the heart but I think it is related to it.
You are lucky that you have a place that is soothing for you. I can imagine going there and hearing the water waves.
Unusual colours here. Specially this blue ray is striking. Where it comes from?. I remember your very similar photo, made probably a while earlier or later in the same place.
jemaflor (91349) 2013-06-25 10:45
Lovely result with these colors, well framed with large Fg and vertical format, I like this blue ray in the sky.
Royaldevon (34773) 2013-06-25 10:59
Ciao Cara Lisa,
Your notes touched my heart!
This is a tremendously good shot and one of which you can be extremely proud. The colours are so unusual, they make one feel like seeing something from another planet. The textures in the f/g are very appealing but, for me, the most striking aspect is that blue flash, which lights up the sky and reflects in the f/g.
My warm regards,
photoray (13725) 2013-06-25 17:00
I am impressed by the maroon colored sand, giving way to melodramtic blue water and sky, then sun radiating the scene. Definitely a fine place to beachcomb and dream.
The Little Prince was required reading in my University's speech class. I was fortunate to graduate and parlay my education into a worthy career.
Keep up the fine works and memories,

Hi Lisa ..
Beautiful gallery you on TE.
Excellent ofotografija, beautiful colors and excellent composition.
I'm new here and I hope that we will be nice to hang out.
All the best.
abmdsudi (48830) 2013-06-26 7:06
Moody but dramatic picture full of atmosphere with some rich, deep colors but an attractive composition. You've caught the bleakness of the scene very well to compliment the beach scape. There's a subdued quality to this that portrays the conditions magnificently and the bright light on the horizon is a fine element which is a nice break in the weather. Love the gentle waves below the sky and those textures on the beach are excellent addition. Although this looks so desolate and forboding, there is a softness and a pleasure to view. Well done for braving it!
bayno (18344) 2013-06-28 12:55
COSTANTINO (61447) 2013-06-29 3:11

Outstanding landscape post taken with a very special sense of beauty. Love the stunning cold light and tones captured here which gave a fantastic result together. Very well done. Bravo!!
mkamionka (33695) 2013-07-01 0:23
wow, this is a very impressive view. For me it has a feeling of the end of the world, when nothing stays on the bare surface. Not quite as relaxing as we are used to see in photos from Australia. Interesting contrast of the blue and red. Great sky too which contributes to this unearthly mood.
rogerl (1616) 2013-07-01 19:23
Lisa, this is really a great image, with colors changing from red to purple to deep blue, and a view way out to sea. The plume of blue light, reflected in the water, is really quite lovely. Very moody. Thanks.

Coucou! That blue effect in the middle really caught my attention. Strikingly and highly attractive effective which really catches the eye of your viewers. Love the colors in ehre and this electric and shiny effect of the earth. Well captured! Very nice note too! I love it!

I've read that book countless times when I was a kid. I should read it again now that I've grown up a little. I might have a new perspective on it.
In response to what you said on my photo earlier today, I still come here once in a while. Although I have several pics that I could share, I don't have the same motivation to do so. I used to post photos on other sites, and I stopped posting there too. I might post a couple pics this week.
Now, about your photo. That was a very interesting cloud formation. The lighter straight line in the cloud is very weird...and it's reflected in the wet rocks in the foreground. too bad there was not more light because those colors in the fg look splendid: some maroon and gold blending in with the deep blues.
love the feelings here. feel like walking on a beach/shore talking and thinking.
