A wet, misty day in Scotland can still be rewarding for photographers. Travelling north from Lochearnhead on the A85 there are several places to stop to admire the views of Glen Ogle. The old railway viaduct is clad in local granite and has 12 stone arches. The line was closed in 1951 and now forms part of the Rob Roy Way, a long distance cycle path.

You had a very murky day for your visit to this spot. The low lying cloud hovering over the glen makes for a very particular atmosphere. I like the subdued light and the harmonious palette of colours to be observed in the hillside.

Yep, you're right, it does - just counted them and there definitely are twelve arches there! Which just goes to show what a wonderfully precise and detailed photograph this is.
But it's not just the detail in that railway viaduct, but the wonderfully soft tones and lovely natural colours which you have captured here, so redolent of a misty autumn day in Scotland.
A very fine composition with gorgeous light and colours, perfect exposure and light management (that sky could so easily have been overly bright) and, as always, detail and sharpness second to none.

Maybe this was a dull day, but the view is as dramatic and beautiful as it could ever be, and I get a feeling that the lack of sun has given the brown and green tones of the hillside a special glow and intensity. I also have a feeling that rain wasn't very far away, so you probably managed this photo just in time.

Hi, Ann, my neighbor today,
Impressive autumn landscape! Good presentation of the Scottish nature... brrr..., so strong weather conditions... Although I live in the snowy country I prefer to visit more warm places for some relax ;))

Ciao e buon fine settimana

this viaduct looks very much like the one in Glenn Finnan.
It makes the already pretty hill much more eye catching and cuts through it just at the right height for nicely balanced composition. The colors are typical autumn ones and even lack of sun does not matter that much - maybe even sparse light with some fog creates very Scottish atmosphere.
Thanks for sharing

An old viaduct well taken, the composition well managed and colors also even the weather wasn't fine, good light capture.

Hello Ann - Your mist shrouded hill tops and the ferns and bracken growing on the hillside speak so eloquently of Scotland; the colours are so distinctive. You have some lovely details here, the railway viaduct and the tumbling stream both add to the success of the whole.
I hope all is well with you and the family and you suffer no more power cuts or repercussions from the weather. Take care

Interesting natural scene with varying colors blending together, then a glimpse of the historical railway viaduct, of interest to me due to work with rail bridges in California.
Stay warm and dry,

autumn in Scotland is magical and this shot is proof that you do not need sunny skies to capture that magic and blissful atmosphere. Glorious colours and immaculate detail make this quite special. Beautiful!
Enjoy your weekend - B.
Last night was horrendous, I think out of all the storms that have battered us over the last few months, last night was the worst. Glad you have power again. Not sure when this is going to end. Hope its soon though. Take care B X.

This was a real challenge to take a photograph in thick cloud and rain, but you've produced something really good here. I like the soft colours and the mistiness of the scene. The bracken fern has a very warm colour which blends in nicely with the green of the vegetation. The old railway viaduct is a key element that gives further interest to your composition. Truly a lovely shot.

Hi Ann,the viaduct is only a small part of the spectacle,an interesting post and a spectacular view with the typical autumn colors and the typical low clouds too in this country.Magnificent capture with bright colors and perfect exposure! Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Interesting scene you have captured, like the small stream trickling down the mountain.
Super Pov, splendid note, well managed and presented.

Very nice capture from Scotland ! With all characteristic elements of Scottish landscape ! The old railway viaduct stays there as a silent evidence of good old times.
TFS and best regards

A very interesting old railway bridge but the most attractive parts of this picture are definitely the colours. The dark brown and green shades provide a very pleasant harmony. A fine depth here too. A beautiful picture.

I like this autumn landscape with well saturated but natural colors and the hanging clouds on the mountain. You have captured the rainy mood very well and the old viaduct is an element of interest.

Les couleurs du paysage sont vraiment magnifiques malgré le ciel brumeux, bonne profondeur et vue intéressante sur le vieux pont
Royaldevon (41060) 2014-02-17 11:52
Those rich autumnal colours are an absolute delight; they give such mood to your photograph. Then, there is the ultimate contrast of the grey cloud, swirling around the upper reaches of the glen!
You have chosen a fine viewpoint, which gives strength from the f/g triangle and a fine sense of depth.
My warm regards,

there is some kind of mystery the mist creates here.
It´s also superb example, that mist can be sometimes much more picturesque for photographers than sunny weather.
And apart from that,I find this landscape truly beautiful.Colors and their saturation are magnificent and helps you to make this scene so pleasant and expressive for us.
patpatch (1601) 2014-02-28 9:20
A splendid scenery of Scotland.Wet and mist bring a paticular atmosphere to the landscape. In spit of the low lightness, the colours are beautiful and the sharpness is excellent.
I like the composition ,with the viaduct on the background.
cristina1 (939) 2015-08-01 2:44
the sky hidden by clouds, these beautiful bright colours and the autumnal weather make the atmosphere rich of mistery, I would not be astonished to meet ghosts!!!
THe Scottish landscape is really beautiful and very wild, most of it is still intact.
Have a nce week end
