Another photograph from beautiful Perthshire, believed by many to be the loveliest and prettiest county in all of Scotland. This one was taken just a hundred yards or so from "Queen's View" after I had walked down a little from the viewpoint which was becoming increasingly thronged with tourists.
Looking due west, we are looking along the length of Loch Tummel and the mountain you can see some 12 miles or so in the distance is Schiehallion, a lovely mountain to look at, a fine mountain to climb and one which affords lovely views from its top. And, as I explained before, it was on this mountain in 1774 that Nevil Maskelyne and his colleagues carried out the "Schiehallion Experiment" which was the very first real experiment to calculate the mean density of the Earth and hence its mass.

Another fine addition to your series. The view is absolutely magnificent, as are the colours. Excellent vertical frame and nice natural framing by the greenery. The water is luminous and cleverly leads the eye into the rest of the frame. Razor sharp as usual too, needless to say.
Un abbraccio e buon fine settimana

Hi John, Delightful view! There are many beautiful places in Scotland (all of it in fact) but your presentation is such that it must be the loveliest indeed. The framing of the trees, the calm lake and Schiehallion in the distance, beautiful sky, calm atmosphere, all it makes this shot a great pleasure to look at. Marvelous. have a nice weekend, make a pleasant trip somewhere.

Indeed a very famous and beautiful view. Interesting colours on the trees in the FG almost make it look autumnal. First class handling of the exposure and sharpness as usual. A really wonderful composition that reminds me just how beautiful Perthshire is.
Best wishes, Ann

For all my somewhat curmudgeonly view that my posts are going to be interesting not pretty, I can still see the beauty in others'.
And this is beautiful !
Delightful colours, if curious; this looks almost autumnal not springlike.
I like your focus on the foreground trees, leaving the distant views to take care of themselves, even if the f22 stop is keeping it all together...
And, of course, the view itself is outstanding...
I must read more about Schiehallion; I was fascinated to hear recently about Halley and the work he did on his century's transit of Venus, it seems Maskelyne had a similar broadmindedness to problem solving.

Hello John ,
A wonderful composition , with attractive golden colors . The view of the landscape behind the branches is gorgeous .
But one thing is intriguing for me . It seems to be an autumn picture . Aren't trees green in end of may in Scotland ?
agjika (3177) 2012-06-09 11:43
This is a super postcards picture. Beautiful compostion and colours. I love the effect on the water. This one is going in my favourites.

The place is incredibly beautiful and you have chosen an excellent vantage point to make the most of this beautiful scenery. Great composition depicting this wonderful valley with the tree as a perfect foreground that adds nice warm, golden tones. I like how the diagonal line of the loch leads to the distant hill, creating a wonderful sense of depth. Well done !

this view is very beautiful and has a sense of revelation and discovery offered by the vantage point behind the intricate yellow foliage which frames the landscape in an extraordinary and intriguing way. Depth and perspective are introduced smoothly and very effectively. Sharpness and clarity are marvellous, the colours vivid and beautiful and the contrasts stunning and very well managed. The management of the golden light is masterful and the atmosphere so alluring. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day and week,

Hope you're enjoying your quiet Sunday, its still early morning here, just waking up...zzzz
I can see why this area is very liked and respected for its beauty. Looking at it, I can't help but wonder how it would look in the Autumn months....would the landscape be orange and yellow? Maybe thats worth a look?
I really like the touch of blue in the corner too.
great shot my friend

Hello John - Well you must be very thrilled with this shot. Your composition is excellent, I love the FG semi-frame with those pin-sharp leaves and branches. As I look past them into the wider view I see the most lovely rural landscape with loch, woodland and mountains to the rear, all beautifully managed, under a finely figured sky. I am really impressed at just how much you have developed your skills and eye! Very well done. BTW, I can see why folk say this is the loveliest county in Scotland, it seems to have a wonderful 'softness' to the landscape.
Warm regards and have a great week. Rosemary

I like how you have used the vegetation in the foreground to frame the spectacular view which opens behind. You were lucky to have a wonderful sky as well.
