Now, this is imposing.
But is it ART ?
Livingstone New Town was so devoid of character or natural features, it was deemed necessary to identify each of four otherwise similar and confusing roundabouts with Public Art, of which this is just one example.
David Wilson was the chosen artist, and built the four giants on a theme, and are all made from reclaimed dyking stone, black whin, yellow limestone and copper.
For more information about the artist read here, or for the project read here.
As the installation is to help drivers who might otherwise be confused by their location, I have included a car, and out of a choice of red, amber or green lights, I naturally chose the photogenic red option.
( Or perhaps, Red for 'Stop ! I want to get off' ! )

Is it art is always a question that will create a talking point, its always down the person. Some of the stuff I have seen has just been downright odd, but others love them, and likewise I have some I really like that others detest.
As for this one, I like it a lot. The arch reminds me of those we would see in Moorish influenced areas, so it makes me think of Spain and Northern Africa. Its almost like a big piece of building got left here. The colour tones through it are very impressive, especially the red giving it the feel of a flame.
I like this, a nice adornment to a roundabout!
All the best

well, it depends on taste of a viewer, but as for me, why not? At least it adds some interest to otherwise average and boring traffic point.

Well, I do not know if it is Art or not but it is interesting and nice to look at. careful composition with the red light and the car in the right place.

Well it is art by definition
but i think its out of context and out of place in West Lothian Scotland
Were it to be transported to say Baghdad then it would be more at home. I have always found it at odds with the location and have no idea what the guy was thinking when he put it up.

Hi Mart, why not- is it not art that gets you to think outside the box .. make you look at life from a different angle.. I like the inclusion of the red light and green arrow-- now that could be confusing to someone visiting Scotland for the first time Chat soon
