TE-itis, a dangerous disease
There is a new disease out there with a very high virulence. Never heard about it? It is caused by a virus called TE and the disease is being called TE-itis. The clinical manifestation is an extremely high addiction potential to have fun with photography and posting, writing critiques, doing workshops and participating at TrekEarth.
However, the best part of it is meeting other people infected by this virus. Spending a weekend somewhere out there in the beauty of the Eastern Sierra Nevada and taking frenetically shots, sharing unforgettable moments, learning new friends, techniques, views, values and at the end setting up for a new meeting in one year. This time at Point Reyes National Seashore and a possible stretch to Sonoma and Napa Valleys.
Another special moment of such meetings is once your back home to see the images that the other members shot and learn about the places where you just were together through their lenses.

Hi Peter lovely photo and funny note, great reportage of TE meeting, splendid light and colors, very well done, ciao Silvio
cherryripe (21033) 2007-06-25 16:57
I totally agree with your note. The TE virus is infectious and the best part is meeting other members.
Although the clouds are over-exposed the scenery is pretty spectacular as it's very contrasted. The sharpness is spot-on.
maximage (15535) 2007-06-25 17:05
mesutilgim (80112) 2007-06-25 17:11
Great capture, great story ! I know this virus very well !
Very well done my dear friend
TFS and best regards from İstanbul
paura (47166) 2007-06-25 17:13
lilimih33 (9912) 2007-06-25 17:25
Fantastic point of view!
Great colours and clarity!
vikous (2217) 2007-06-25 17:33
Funny photograph:) I always like taking photos of another photographers when they are fully concentrated on their job that they can barely see what is going on around them! I like this shot, nice atmosphere.
Good luck to you and all your friends,
Cortez236 (1275) 2007-06-25 17:38
Hi peter, a fantastic image.
I was under the impression that i was addicted to TE-using credit cards to fund my camera, equipment + location habits-money which i don't have, also worrying my family with my relationship with this pleasure source.
But now you say that it is a-contagious?-disease.
Is their any antidote?...you know?...i don't want an antidote!!
Great image. Great community spirit. TFS.
.............Reminds me..i could do with a new tripod.
zeca (19762) 2007-06-25 17:52
Bom registro, Peter. Bela sacada...
pat0500 (21561) 2007-06-25 18:05
Excellent WS of this meeting TE who is often very pleasant...
Very good framing here and very nice perspective of the mountains..!
Light and colours is perfect and sharpness too...!
Good shot...I like it this one..!
I'll be back..!

jwmunro (286) 2007-06-25 19:35
Hello Peter -
I have to agree with Henk on this one - a bunch of photographers having fun on a Saturday morning. There is no better way to spend a Saturday! Well done, you sure sneaked this one in while everyone attention was some where else.
Thank you for sharing.
Dpbours (222) 2007-06-25 19:44
Great shot you got here and I love your story! Must have been a great gathering there. I'm also doing badly with my TE-itis. Just getting out of bed, turning on the computer for the new postings and reactions. A slight tremble when typing www.trekearth.com and just before I go to work I caress my D200 a last time and wish it a good day, while I take my smaller Sony R1 along... Yes, I know. I'm not doing that well ;-).
Bruno40 (6658) 2007-06-25 20:06
Ha, ha!,I am not alone!... now I know the name of my illness.... please check my intro to find some characteristics of the TE-itis, and tell me if you suffer from the same.
Excellent note and photo.
stego (22866) 2007-06-25 20:20
I had already suspected that this was a disease, now I see a doctor confirming it. :D
They really seem to be having a good time.
I appreciate the fact that the photo goes well beyond a journalistic snapshot, and features a very nice compo, great light, sharpness and colours. It's remarkable how the sun shined mountains up there are not completely burnt out.
Um abraço, José.
stevesieren (787) 2007-06-25 22:26
Hey Peter, I love this photo! When my friends ask me where I've been or "we haven't seen you for months" this explains it. You took advantage of the swiftly moving clouds.
We were taking shots of a distant waterfall with a mountain peak above it and by the look on my face I was waiting on a LONG IR exposure. I think the disease can take over your life and for some make it better. Thanks for all the hospitality I'll definitely be there next year. Steve Sieren
plimrn (21344) 2007-06-25 23:53
I enjoyed so much the group photo that I wouldn't have nocted the clouds were it not for Nikki's note. However, I thinks capturing detail in the had precedence over the clouds here. I sense Daniel's concern with this virulent disease; after all, you ARE a doctor. HLJ, Pat
afshin339 (306) 2007-06-26 1:21
Is that realy a dangerous disease?!!
Your shot is very nice and beautiful.photographers positions is very effective and show us love and sympathy working and hobby.
The colors and clarity in your shot is nice and wonderful.
Thanks for sharing.
Docarmo (9639) 2007-06-26 2:24
Belle folie! Quem quer cura? Eu, não!
Maria do Carmo
Floydian (30970) 2007-06-26 3:38
I don't want to talk about the technical crap, this is just a great image in combination with the note. TE is indeed a combination of photography and meeting people all over the world. Together exploring new worlds, trying to make the best shots you ever made, have fun together and exchance personal thoughts about photography.
A good photo Peter...well done..!!!
faubry (35405) 2007-06-26 3:55
hello Peter, Te virus is dangereus for other members.... great image, you had very well capured their expressions..
kiwi_explorer (12209) 2007-06-26 4:25
I like your terminology, TE-itis ... it might catch on :) Looking at this shot, one can imagine how we TE community go out of the way just to get that 'best' shot in order to post here. The scenery is great ... but inclusion of TE members in action makes this special. Excellent work! tfs
siolaw (38050) 2007-06-26 5:37
A good shot at these three infected people! Exposure is excellent with difficult light well managed, natural colrs and wide DOF for a good sharpness.
cessy (13647) 2007-06-26 8:49
hahaha .. TE-itis :))
very nice moment you have there :)
friendship, same passion, beautiful landscape, what can you ask more ?
PixelTerror (0) 2007-06-26 8:52
Hi Dr. Boehringer,
Now that you've done the right diagnostic, let's face it we're severely contaminated by TE:itis, so is there any way to cure this like go out with friends and shoot pictures ? That's a nice framing of our friends though challengeable from a TE ToS point of view, I can feel the intensity of the action but also notice your clouds seem to be overexposed.
Have a nice day,
jhm (135274) 2007-06-26 8:53
Perhaps you write the truth about the virus, alone I'm no traveler, I do alone every day an trip with my bike, or a day trip with our car.
This is a wonderful image with us friends in full glory, but also with a excellent background, a wonderful composition and pleasant colours. TFS.
Have a nice day,
belido (19934) 2007-06-26 12:38
tehanu_f (6896) 2007-06-26 13:50
excellent photo + risky spot + brave subjects + huge camera bags full of gadgets + tripods at the most unlikely places + very funny note = a real TE member )))
Angelillo (9372) 2007-06-26 14:52
This is an epidemy! jajaja. Nice note, and truly note too, with big sense of humour. The shot is beautiful, the three friends in diagonal, interested in the same thing, for us invisible, are really a great photographic subject. The landscape around them is beautiful. Clever composition, great lights and colors. Thanks.
keribar (43841) 2007-06-26 15:18
Hi Peter, You can't believe how much I'de enjoy being there too. Marvellous photo showing keen TE photo producers - Many thanks for posting it.
I won't be in Istanbul from Saturday on. A Photo safari in eastern Anatolia until the 9th.
Friendly regards - Izzet

feather (51130) 2007-06-26 16:22
You forgot to mention one of the symptoms is wearing baseball caps back to front. At least here, there is hope for recovery of at least one member. Great shot and I don't think any of them noticed you.
crckt (7218) 2007-06-26 18:13
GREAT picture for all the fellow TE members.
Thanks for this great post.
darrasin (2860) 2007-06-27 0:17
Hello Peter! Congrats, you've captured the spirit of the experience wonderfully. It's very interesting and also inspiring to see yourself and others at work, so I thank you for taking this shot. It's also a perfect momento of a great weekend shared with wonderful people and so this goes into my favorites.
I have to admit this image makes me cringe when I look and see my 70-200 L series lens about to fall out of my vest. And my photo bag is half open, another accident waiting to happen. So I thank you for the reminder to be more conscious of our precious equipment.
John_F_Kennedy (42042) 2007-06-27 12:28
Great note!!! Interesting perspective you have chosen here. Excellent POV, good quality and beautiful colours.
Charo (51210) 2007-06-27 17:44
Excelente foto, mostrando a essencia do TE né?
òtimas cores e POV.
euryan (8436) 2007-06-28 16:20
The scariest part of TE-itis is that as of yet, there is no known cure! ;-)
The tricky lighting is handled very well here, and I love the love POV looking up towards the mountaintops, and these fellow trekearthers. Who are the members in this photo?
capthaddock (28790) 2007-06-28 17:27
Hi Peter -it must have been an enjoyable weekend, humorous and infectious moment, everything that counts is in shadow, but the exposure there is spot on, the brightness of the clouds are no surprise under these conditions.
bakes888 (18499) 2007-06-29 1:45
Hi Peter. Interesting shot. This TE itis sounds familiar and dangerous. I think it is related to TL itis and TN itis also. Well captured and thanks for sharing.
derek3755 (2341) 2007-06-29 7:50
what are these strange creatures trying to blend in with the landscape you have photographed, well it was a very good capture, and it is what photography is all about. It's great to meet and spend time with fellow enthusiasts and i am glad that your TE meeting went so well.
banyanman (7789) 2007-06-30 11:35
A great shot of TEers getting together, Peter. Lovely colours and contrast in the shot, perfect DOF and sharpness, and very well composed. Cheers . . . David
xuaxo (6846) 2007-06-30 14:23
Emile (20350) 2007-07-06 20:50
Your shot is the perfect example of friendship with other TE members, to be able to meet them and exchange experiences between each other is great, it's nice to be together, all for the same reason, new photographic techniques that maybe will take us weeks or months to learn, you can get it right there. We are all suffering from what you call TE-itis and is quite possible that for some of us is going to be difficult to cure.
By the way your shot is very good.
lcarolan (948) 2007-07-15 7:41
Peter, is it fatal?? Does it promote longevity?
Beautiful DOF, howe DID you get them to group into such a tight cluster? Larry
nivaldo (15415) 2007-07-26 4:05
Graças a Deus!
Greg1949 (9011) 2007-07-28 18:30
Peter, I think this should be come a classic for the site, it expresses the perfect eco-friendly hobby (obsesion) and it captures well the effort people are willing to go to to get "that" shot.
luiscar (3286) 2007-07-31 4:36
I like this composition, very good technically, but what I like really is the meeting fans' of the photography, in which it is shared and learned with the others.
big work and comment
gunbud (34066) 2007-08-07 19:15
Beautiful clear colors and razor sharp details with an accurate diagnosis. I love the lighting at the highest peaks and the beautiful shadows its produces.
nivas37 (662) 2007-08-13 11:41
Haha Peter... Well put.
Yes, its dangerous, and life-bound! and I'm glad about it.
But that doesnt mean the rest of the image isnt impressive... in fact it is too! The hill lines at different levels is clear and looking fantastic.
And i'd be glad to put in the 100th point for this image, if it matters!
