Le Grau du Roi, a photo from Languedoc-Roussillon, South

Photographer's Note

Situé tout au sud du département du Gard, Le Grau du Roi, en est l’unique débouché maritime. On appelle ses habitants les graulens.

C'est pour la région Rhône Alpes et même au delà, le premier accès à la mer et au climat méditerranéen.

En occitan, un Grau signifie l'ouverture naturelle qui se crée à travers le cordon litoral joignant la mer et les étangs. Il semble s'être formé au XIIIeme siècle, et met en communication la Méditerranée et l'étang du Grau du roi.

Pourquoi « le Grau du Roi » ?
Car à l’époque des croisades, Aigues-Mortes était un port royal fondé par Saint Louis et le Grau du Roi était l’entrée maritime au port du roi, d’où Le Grau du Roi !

Hello Christiane,

A beautiful shot with colorful boats and buildings. I like the colors in the water. The palm trees and the man walking generate additional interest. Nice composition with splendid colors.

Very warm composition with lovely colorful cute boats in a calm sea and again lovely mediterranean-style houses at the side of sea which has reflection of colors like a marbling in its water. Excellent presentation with good perspective to get sense of depth and perfect light management to get vivid colors,sharpness and clarity.

A wonderful afternoon along the small marina, POV was super with a full masts dominating the image on a skew angel.
Contrast of the golden hour on houses, and the play of shadows is most beautiful.
