St. Mary's Church, a photo from Malopolskie, East

Photographer's Note

I went to Krakow with my wife & a couple of friends, this is a night shot of the famous St Mary's church inn the main square, the temperature went down to -21.
Krakow's original St. Mary's Church was destroyed during the 13th-century Tartar raids; rebuilding began relatively soon after.
The present church was built on the foundations of its predecessor, which was built before the town plan of 1257. This is why it stands slightly askew from the main square.
The new St. Mary's Church was completed in 1397; the towers were added in the 15th century.
In the 20th century, St. Mary's Church made an appearance in the film Schindler's List.

As it seems there is almost no snow in Kraków ;))
Well taken. In summer the place you took the photo from was occupied with numerous flowers sellers.
Soda-light adds some fairy accent to the scenery.

Hello Wilson,
Very beautiful nightshot and winter view of Krakow's Rynek Glowny with the Basilica and a part of the Cloth Hall.
The low POV gives a good result.
I visited Krakow and this square in summertime a few years ago. In summer this square had a lot of terraces. A different atmosphere, but I think this town is attractive in any time of the year.

Hi Wilson,

The presence of the people has an effect of scale. The distance between the people in the foreground and the church is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the architecture of St.Mary's church. Using a tripod, a ISO of 1800 and a shutter speed of 1/$ of a second are bringing out the colors. Hi Wilson, Good composition, the two figures add a lot of "feeling" to this photograph. Tremendous definition of the impressive church in the centre. Seeing all the snow on the ground makes it very much an appropriate "white Xmas" but i guess it is a little too much for many air travellers this week. All the best for 2011. Murray.

This is an excellent night shot of this beautifully lit square and magnificent church. The POV is very well chosen and shows off the square to a good advantage. The picture shows wonderful mastery of exposure. Definition is superb and the golden tones are very well rendered and so pretty. Minus 21 degrees is really cold. It must have been a challenge to take pictures.

Really an outstanding photo with a very strong visive impact.
The peculiar light of course is one of the major features but actually the whole composition is very interesting and well built. I like the low pov and the inclusion of the two people at left. Well captured and well framed.

This is a nice nigh shot from snowy and beautiful Krakow. I like this composition with those people on the left and nice old buildings on the background. It's a little bit noisy, but I think you increased the ISO because it was so dark. Anyway this is a great photo.

I like the brown tone of the sky. Although I am wondering if noise filtration could not make it smoother. However, the noisy surface has the advantage that it seems as if it was snowing.

I love the tones on this image and the composition. Persomnaly i found the noise (specialy on the sky) to disturbing. This can ezsely be corrected with PP what i hink would improve the quality.
