Koh Chang is an island off the coast of Trat Province in the Gulf of Thailand. Much less developed than Koh Samui a drive down the eastern coast provides a good opportunity to see local life. This shot was taken at Baan Salak Kok. The tiny, authentic, fishing village is a far cry from the swish resorts on the western side of the island; houses are built along a series of boardwalks that snake around the canals of a mangrove forest. Red and aqua-painted fishing boats line walkways and you stroll around gives the feeling that you've really discovered something special.
The sisters pictured here lived in a humble wooden house perched on stilts above the water. A narrow wobbly walkway constructed from old planks formed the suspended pathway to their home.

A charming capture of these sisters. I like the framing offered by the doorway with its well rendered textures. Excellent conversion to black and white.

très belle photo avec très bon choix pour le noir et blanc. Lors de mon voyage en Thaïlande, je regrette de ne pas avoir pris assez de portrait.

This is a delightful double portrait, beautifully illuminated and beautifully processed. I'm not a big fan of kids in B&W but here, your choice is a winner. The skintones are absolutely marvellous and I love the highlights on the cheeks of mum and bub, aswell as the characteristic textures of the surrounding walls and doors.
A heart-warming photo, that you've been hiding for way too long. Hugs

a beautiful study this and all the more compelling in B&W too. Glorious tonal quality here and immaculate sharpness make this a really classy and appealing presentation. Love it!
Enjoy your weekend - B.
Yet another storm smashed through here last night, if anything the worst one yet here in my hometown. B.

Despite your comments about the colourful fishing boats nearby, you've chosen to present this lovely double portrait in monochrome, which actually suits it perfectly in my opinion (but then I'm biased!) The child's eye contact is what makes this photograph come to life. Beautiful!

In a way any photo of a young woman with her small sister would be appealing and charming, But this picture goes far beyond being merely charming. It's technically superb, perfectly sharp and very well converted to B&W with a very fine greyscale. The two persons are seen against a perfect dark background and they are very nicely framed by the rough wood of their house. The elder girl shows a strong tenderness towards her sister and you had a perfect eye-contact with the little girl.
Actually I took it for granted that this was a young woman and her child, so I had to partly rewrite this comment after belatedly reading your note or looking at the title ;-).

There is nothing like the innocent play of children to warm the heart, What a little sweetie I personally think it is an adorable warm hearted image, that you will never capture again, a slice of time never to be forgotten. A beautiful expression in a natural environment and happyness of this cutie that you have captured so well. She is so relaxed and natural yet full of energy in such a great clarity right on her facial feature and the most valuable element - the eye connection and the catch light is there uplifting this to high level. An extremely good photograph, detail and real life. Very good capture that says a lot and tx to your descriptions. Congrats

What a perfectly beautiful portrait. Portraits are my first love in photography and especially ones of children. Marvelous tones, textures, lighting, framing and it's particularly nice the way the older sister is looking at the little one. Lovely work! Many thanks and kindest wishes,

This is a first class portrait. I particularly like their natural poses and the framing by the old door. B/W photography at its best with an excellent range of tones - it would make a super print.
Kind Regards, Ann

I agree with the comments that mentn the eye contact with this young girl, it seems we can see almost into her soul, and her eyes have a true capture of childhood innocence. This looks stunning in black and white and you have framed the whole scene so well both with the wooden doorway which has fantastic texture and the shape of the photo. A beautiful portrait.
Thanks as always.

Super photo of these sisters in their wooden doorway of their house.
Fantastic in B@W gives it a certain sad mood, the little girl has great eyes.
Wonderful, well managed.

for me it´s like a quintessence of a good portrait(unfortunately I´ve never had good eye and skills for this kind of pictures)
I like here especially the timing you´ve chosen to immortalize the scene and the look of this little girl. And your B&W treatment is here a masterpiece and helps you to make the shot so expressive.
Have a nice day

a beautiful composition here. I can relate it with one of my previous one in monochrome with the same mood. You might see that. Yours is a great composition. Like the picture quality. Excellent one. Just love it. Tfs.
