Good Morning Everyone,
Today, my photograph shows Sizergh Castle. It is situated near Kendal on the outskirts of the Lake District.
Sizergh has been associated with the Strickland family since 1239, when the heiress Elizabeth Deincourt married William de Stirkeland. The solar tower of the castle was a potent symbol of the Stricklands power during the Middle Ages, when they played a leading role in the wars with Scotland and France. Prominent as Catholic royalists throughout the 17th century, the Stricklands went into exile in 1688 with the court of James II at Saint-Germain in France. They returned to Sizergh by the early 18th Century as impoverished Jacobites, but thanks to the careful efforts of Winifred, Lady Strickland, they were able to afford a few baroque-style alterations to the house. Sir Gerald Strickland, later Lord Strickland of Sizergh (1861-1940) along with his second wife Margaret Hulton, installed the famous rock garden which was laid out in 1926-8. In 1931 the estate transferred to Lord Strickland's daughter Mary and her husband Henry Hornyold. They and their son Lt-Cdr Thomas Hornyold-Strickland gave the house to the National Trust in 1950. - National Trust
Despite belonging to the National Trust, there are days when the castle is not open to the public as the family still lives in the house.
As a w/s, I will post a photograph of the rock garden. The day was overcast but it is still possible to get an impression of the style and colours.
I wish you all a happy weekend, Bev :-)

This is a terrific photo of the castle with lots of foreground interest provided by the garden and its various colours. The path through the vegetation provides a nice lead line towards the castle. The image is very well composed. The branches nicely frame the top of the image while adding depth and screening the sky.

The epitome of an English country mansion. Nicely captured here surrounded by vegetation. The sky was grey but the light was even and the natural colours very appealing.

Another superb composition. I like the way you have used the tree to block out the sky which obviously did not have anything of importance. It is admirable that you have been able to show some details even in the darkly shaded areas. These colourful bushes and trees lead our sight to the impressive towering castle in the BG. The colourful flowers and leaves add some cheer to the otherwise dull setting. Very well taken, thanks for sharing.

a shot rich in vegetation and so many green shades. It is a beautiful glimpse of this wonderful old Castle. Looks really impressive and quintessentially English. Despite the grey day this shot has impact and an elegant beauty about it.
Enjoy the weekend - B.
No snow, just more rain :-(

J'aime beaucoup ce cadrage vertical qui place le château parfaitement dans son environnement de verdure et de jardins.J'aime aussi la branche comme cadre supérieur. Le temps gris élimine les ombres. L'image est d'une belle netteté.

A well composed image of this castle which has come down through the centuries with undiminished charm until today. All the green foliage recalls the summer. It nicely surrounds the castle making a very pretty picture. Well done.
Have a nice weekend.

Strange name for an English castle, Beverly, more a German oriented. Yet, a beautiful picture show how it "rises" from within the woods, green's with patchs of pink.
POV well chosen, calrity rendere superbly.
Have a nice weekend,

Hello Beverley, a very nice image here. The castle is so well framed between the trees and the vegetation. Good take.

I like this composition very much. You found a POV where the castle looks totally surrounded by dense vegetation. The overhanging branches covering most of the dull sky create a very fine pattern and there is an amazing variety of green tones among the many different kinds of trees. The castle looks interesting enough, although it's almost hidden by the trees.

Ciao cara Beverley
ottimi sia il soggetto che la composizione della ripresa.
Alla notevole nitidezza si unisce anche una perfetta gestione della luce.
Ciao e buon fine settimana

sometimes I wish that I was one of those people who have the rare luxury to live in an old castle! Just imagine the space and all parties:)A well taken picture of the castle, surrounded with trees and branches in the foreground. It is overcast weather but it is still an interesting shot, tfs!

it is not only very pretty example of architecture but also the whole picture is quite artistic. The greenery and the tree branches frame the castle very lovely and the vertical format in my opinion was probably the best choice for this object. Great colors, sharpness and contrast.
Thanks for sharing

The castle is beautifully enclosed by all the greenery.
Well framed on top with the many branches grabbing downwards.
The foreground looks magnificent: I find this a very beautiful garden with lots of different kinds of plants and with colourful flowers. In between, there is a narrow almost overgrown path that leads us to the castle.
Best regards, Paul

This beautiful castle is really covered in vegetation, almost like the in the of "Sleeping Beauty". An interesting note and also a good complementary picture. How were the plums?

Love the vertical frame here, and it really works well in adding depth to the image. The colourful leaves provide a wonderful texture and the icing on the cake is that beautiful castle which looks like something out of a fairytale. Thanks for sharing, have a beautiful day.
