Tour groups exploring the incredible ruins of Karnak in the old city of Thebes, which is just north of modern day Luxor. This is the largest temple of its type in the world. It was commenced around 1900 BC by Senusret 1st and added to by over 30 pharoahs right through the New Kingdom and into the Ptolemaic era, which ended with the demise of Cleopatra in 30 BC.

Amazing columns, beautiful stones.
Good frame and colors.
People give the size of the columns.

The strong contrasts between the sand/stones and the bright sky make this a very eye-catching photo, and even more so do of course the shapes and textures of the impressive columns. The person in the light green clothes who just stepped into the sunny area is well placed and a great eye-catcher in her/his own right. The exposure and colours are superb.

Splendid perspective through these soaring columns, the height of which we can estimate by reference to the visitors. Well exposed with superb colour contrasts and excellent rendering of the textural detail.

Bel effet entonnoir.

From the thumbnail-image I wondered whether this was Karnak, impressive in age and scale. I don't remember the exact scene, but I thought the site was extraordinary. The man with the optically brilliant shirt creates an effective focal point.

I was here in 2005, it brings me back to the school years, it could be a history lesson to me. Good idea, I'd like to check my Egyptian folder too. I like this colors combination, well seen. TFS!

Good morning Chris,
Excellent view through the mighty pillars, scaled well with the people/tourists stood in the shades.
Strong desert light and the contrast created was also superbly handled.
Have a nice Sunday,

Hello Chris, the people walking between the columns are an essential part of your picture.
I really like the composition with its' symmetry.
Excellent depth of field.
It looks as if it was very hot?

I've never visited any ancient ruins, and it must evoke a special feeling to stand next to such old structures. We can see just how large those columns really are with the other tiny tourists standing next to them. I like the vertical composition. You really captured this spot well.

vedere le persone in mezzo a queste colonne è impressionante, la costruzione è gigantesca.
E' quasi impossibile credere che siano state innalzate senza l'utilizzo delle moderne attrezzature....

What a view from Karnak. Fascinating place and one wonders how was it possible to build. Are there still groups in Egypt? Magnificent composition.
Kind regrad s MAlgo

Hello Again Chris,
I didn't upload a photo today, so I'm catching up with my returns. I like your POV and the vertical framing. The rows of huge columns against the blue sky are lovely.
