Photographer's Note

On a hot and dusty windswept October afternoon under a fierce sun, I was trudging downwards from Jharkot towards Kagbeni. I had simply given up on trying to protect my camera from the dusty wind that hit my body and face. I paused and looked around, Waiting for Tanima to catch up. No other trekker was in sight across the flat stretch of ground. The breeze would lessen it's fierceness for a minute or so and the silence was deafening. I looked around. It was hauntingly beautiful. I took these three photographs not really bothered of the time I was spending there. Not bothered, till it started to become cold.

An alternative route from Muktinath to Kagbeni, that skips the road is by walking northwards across the Jhong Khola Canyon (Dzong - Fort) via Chhengar. This route looks far more appealing to me, not just because it avoids the dusty Jeep trails, but also because of its scenic beauty, the architecture of flat roofed houses that typifies the Sakya Sect of Buddhism. A normal walk takes me to Kagbeni in less than 4 hours.
