I saw her working on one of the low terraces of Jaipur’s Hawa Mahal as I walked through the dark stairway on my way to the top. The grilled window formed n apt frame for her and her bucket. She was engrossed in her work and hardly had time to look up. It was hot and her red dress scorched against the bucket full of limestone.

What a fun and strange photo ! Very well framed indeed, this woman is localised that way thanks to the typical architecture an her squatting position is interesting...
I'll answer to your last critique later on (about taking people in photos) but you seem to do it very naturally too - colours are beautiful !
emka (89301) 2008-06-01 23:37

It's always effective to use an architectural element to frame an image, after that you have to tame extreme contrasts and get a good image such as this one.
Have a nice day JY
maria (3288) 2008-06-02 0:31
Not only are the contrasting colours gorgeous but you also have the perfect balanced composition with the help of this natural frame.

Once again, a dramatic play with shades in light.
pastadog (13111) 2008-06-02 2:54
Hi Aadil - original framing, I esp. like the thin golden strips on both sides. Maybe I would have liked to see her face (according to your note maybe you were waiting for this) but nice nevertheless, probably due to orange color of the cloth. Regards, Daniel
Dpbours (222) 2008-06-02 3:48
An interesting see-through!! I had to get used to the big black part, but it makes the whole compo interesting as well. At first it was a bit heavy to me. But watching it a bit longer, I started to like it. A pity that we don't get a face, but the colours are very pleasant.
Jeppo (17645) 2008-06-02 4:06
well, you framed her...in a very particular way so that our eyes go straight on her.
colours are very warm and pleasant.
eversmile (11636) 2008-06-02 6:13
I imagined you was in the train, when it suddenly stopped in the middle of the desert, like in the movie "The Darjeeling Limited" and that they say the train got lost, haha... Could it be, that by an humorous accident, your coach have come a standstill just behind this lady...? Just the time for the picture and then moved again...
Well, my imagination probably drives me too far. Anyway, I like the in/out view, the strong colors, the stripes on the side of the window that strengthens the feeling of enigma. I like the sensation of heat which strikes at the edge of the frame.
jusninasirun (17162) 2008-06-02 7:36
Hello Aadiil. Excellent framing capturing the glow as always. Nice strong color and beautifully executed. Thanks for sharing and best regards. Jusni

Chaque passage dans ta galerie est pour moi un enchantement !
hispic (9652) 2008-06-03 2:20
Strong Rajasthan colour framed by the shade that has some spotlights, is really impressive. The dead-center composition is appropriate in this case. Beautiful work!
Best wishes, Hisashi

Wonderful imaginative POV through the dark stairway in the the brilliantly lite yard where the lady working is seen in her brightly colored dress and she labored tiredlessly.

kschanna (6) 2008-06-05 5:28
Excellent framing, the mystery of this shot is in the woman turned away
from you, one is left wondering...what does she look like?...what is it
that she is doing in the scorching sun wearing red?
Thanks for sharing
Angshu (56738) 2008-06-05 21:05
This frame has lot more bright colours that mine. The red just seems to jump out of the screen. I am also attracted by the thin openings on either side, which for sure makes a better frame, rather than a solid black wall. Well seen & captured with your usual panache!
sevy (15367) 2008-06-06 9:38
Nice use of the frame in the frame. It works well here. I would have suggested a square frame instead of the rectangle, but like this it is also working.
aofl (1088) 2008-06-06 9:51
Amazing photo, well framed and good color and POV
dareco (17134) 2008-06-07 2:27

Flavia (10352) 2008-06-14 0:34
Great composition the windows really is a beutiful frame and the light outside was very nice. Her dress color helps to create a nice contrast against the bg and fg, its a pitty we cannot see a face here.
azaf1 (15929) 2008-06-23 1:01
It's just beautiful. A natural frame and this great red touch in the middle is great
Have a great week
pablominto (53746) 2008-06-25 1:07
I admit I have problems seeing this is a human, but I'll take your word for that...
What caught my eyes were the rich warm colours and intriguing shapes!
Pascale (10456) 2008-06-26 22:28

Beautiful, Aadiil. Very artistic composition and great exposure for this difficult light contrast.
foozi (7101) 2008-08-12 1:56
if i were to look into your photo one day each, it will take a year or more. All those are nice ones. Framing within a frame is such a great technique and it work out very well here, especially you have a good bright subject to be depicted and a contrasting subject such as the white bucket nd the dark wall.
Stunning exploitation of the existing element within the reach.

carobnica (1336) 2008-10-07 2:03
Well you really mastered making interesting photographs by using architectural elements and play of light. It is not an easy job so first my congratulations for that. This is one of rare photos (ok not so rare but comparing to whole opus it is) where you included human figure and it works great. I am not one of those who claim that central compositions are boring and not working, for me they work if the work is rightly done and you did it by using the play of light and color accents. I like it.
By the way who did you menage to make so many photos of architecture without human interference? just wondering. it is hard work to do, and when I have India in mind, wow.
ciao and thank you for commenting my photographs. As I wrote, I came back here after looong time, so thank you for encouragement.
Benedict (7076) 2008-10-14 21:49
when one has the eye, one has got it! who would ever thought of capturing an image of this but one with the eye? the centrally-placed subjects framed from a froeground window looks like "they" are inside a big damajuana bottle.i have noticed such design flexibility in your captures, this one wont suprise me at all if it lands into a publicity material!
zesopol (258) 2008-12-24 9:25
Good eye! superb shot. The fact that we don't see the person face is mysterious and I like it a lot. Beautiful colors, sharp and very well composed. TFS.
CLODO (32974) 2008-12-27 3:12
Thank you for explaining the way you have taken this shot. I like the framing and the colors which are in accordance
Best wishes for 2009
axiotea (21649) 2009-07-18 1:05
A suitable frame in the frame ;)
The black grilled window with the light spots on it, made me think of a 'film' photography.
I like the strong light and the warm colors.
subhendu_bagchi (25991) 2009-07-28 5:53
Namaste Aadiil ji, an architectural curve is always be a good frame. But it looks gorgeous when used by photographer like you. Beautiful composition. A bit exposed face of the the woman makes it better, I think. Anyway it is a masterpiece.
