The largest shimenawa (sacred straw rope) in Japan is 13.5 meters long and weighs around 5 tons. The rope is one of the most easily recognized and distinctive features of Izumo-taisha.
I saw many people, young and old, tossing the coins into the air at the bell-like ends of the sacred straw rope. I decided to have a go and after a couple of throws, the coin lodged itself into the straw base. It was only after I had succeeded that my friend Yoshi informed me that local belief states that the person who is successful in making the coin stick, will come return one day to the spot. Unfortunately a wish to that end may have been necessary PRIOR to the coin toss. So, I don't know whether I'll be back as I made my wish after my successful throw. It goes without saying that I would love to revisit Japan, a country to which one can easily grow attached.
Silly me, I just realized that my ISO speed was 100, not the ideal for an action shot. Still, after some photoshop adjustments, it is a passable shot- more for the moment of optimism it captures than for the clarity.

excellent catch to capture the person in the air, the composition is very catching with the bell-ends in the upper part. And a very interesting note, too.
Have a nice day, Ivana

Interesantna akciona kompozicija.

A wonderful capture here of this young lady trying to make her coin stick in the straw of this great rope. You've caught her just at the right moment...a very nice scene here. Very nicely done.

Very strong composition and exposure taken so well and depth is highly desirable

very unique cultural/religious event u dislayed here, never saw or heard before. i think to mkae the coin stick to bell straw, needs a strong force with one hand, quiet an effort and can be frustating to some maybe. the main insterest is clearly captured in great detail and sharpness with lively environment. Good cool color. i like the slight blur on the thrower. A very well exposed and exellent pov in verticle format emphasising more area to the straw. useful notes worth reading. thsk for sharing this interesting doc serie.congrats.

Ciao Caro Klaudio, you've created an excellent persepctive with those shimenawa and the vertical framing. The action of the little girl jumping gives great dynamism. I know what you mean about the ISO100, so often something comes along and you need to quickly react. But I think you overcame the technical difficulties extremely well. TFS and I wish you a good week, Lisa

Hello Klaudio. An original and interesting photo. First I have seen the photo, then read the informative text. The jumping girl makes the photo very much alive. I think this photo is perfect for TE. Compliment. Regards, Wolfgang.

Olá Klaudio, this is a wonderful action shot, in spite of your comments about iso 100. I actually like the blur of her movement. It seems to me that a powerful force of the sacred rope is pulling her up. Excellent timming, she's not jumping, she's flying. I enjoyed the story in the note too, I confess I never heard about these sacred ropes before and this one is pretty impressive.
