Galata Bridge is one of Istanbul’s iconic landmarks. Indeed no visit to Istanbul is complete without walking along or ferrying under the Galata Bridge. The bridge spans the Golden Horn to connect the city’s two European sides.
The present Galata Bridge was built as late as 1994, though it was in 1845 that this bridge was built for the first time and Galata was connected to the old town.
The bridge is quite low to sea level, meaning that only small ships can pass under it….and that brings us to one of Istanbulites’ most favorite pastime – fishing. The bridge’s most enduring image is its shoulder-to-shoulder fisherman casting off into the water below. The almost unbroken line of bobbing rods is a romantic sight, but not all the fishermen pay careful attention to where they’re swinging....so be careful while walking :-)
In this view, standing on the Galata Bridge, I also tried to capture in the frame, the Yeni Camii - the ‘New mosque’ which majestically rises on the Eminönü side at the southern end of the Galata Bridge. It is one of the best-known sights of Istanbul.

Hello Angshu - This is a super shot of Galata Bridge; one place in Istanbul that I can happily stand and watch the life around me for ages. It's just so fascinating to see how many and who stands here fishing and with such intense concentration too. You've composed this well as we are left in no doubt as to where we are, the mosque and ferry both being synonymous with the area. You managed to get some good side light on the mosque and I like the way the ferry just fits in nicely under the fishing rod. Nicely done! Warm regards rosemary

The fisherman is helping to frame the scene. The distance between the bridge and the buildings is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details, the colors of the boat and of the buildings. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

I think he is so dedicated angler fully engrossed with his hobby awaiting for a big snatch there, but he also becomes the victim of your keen eyes. Interesting daily life, good placement with some nice colors on bright day and the scenic background with the minarets equally demand the same attention and complement the shot attractively. Good capture, Congrats, TFS

You have successfully combined severeal iconic features of Istanbul, apart from the bridge also one of the famous mosques and a Bosphorus ferry. I have tried many photos of anglers at this bridge, and the Atatürk bridge further up the Golden horn, but I found it trickier than expected to get a good view, so I am very impressed by your effort. Apart from the atmosphere you have captured the strong and vivid colours are most impressive,

As usual, the clarity and sharpness is absolutely fine. However, here your positioning and composition is stunning.
You have caught the 'hookers' mood spot on.
The photograph meanwhile fishes for scenes that are popular tourists attractions and captures them with elan !
The Yeni Camil looks very elegant and the colours have depth. We see this mosque from above the fisherman's line. This is what appeals to my senses.
Thanks for sharing, Angshu, its a thematic beauty.

Bonjour, cher Angshu,
L'endroit doit être poissonneux pour que les pêcheurs étalent leurs cannes !
En tout cas, une chose est certaine, le choix du cadrage est parfait pour inclure la mosquée et le passage du bateau.

You did very well to include perhaps the most famous landmark of Istanbul in the middle of your frame. I like the intense attention in the expression of the fisherman in FG. Very good clarity and sharpness. Thanks for sharing.
P.S Thank you for your comments on one of my photos, I value it.

great looking shot!
nice to see the Mosque in the bg too, that can only make the scene that much better :)
Surprising to see how clear it is in the bg at F2.8
I plan on getting some similar photos as i'll be in Istanbul in the same month as you were, in May, but in 2014. How was the weather you had?
subhendu_bagchi (26089) 2013-12-04 1:16
wow, dada, a nice one from your last Istambul tour. Great moment here with those men fishing. Excellent depth that we can clearly see the beautiful mosque at back. Superb shot with such a pleasant light. Khub bhalo ekta chhobi.

A great composed shot, my favourite place in Istanbul.
I love to see shots of the area around Galata Bridge.
mkamionka (38393) 2013-12-04 3:21
lovely composition so very original. The view at the back is obviously spectacular but the fisherman adds a nice touch in the foreground and so you got also some diagonals across the frame.
Very well done!!
ChrisJ (116108) 2013-12-04 10:19
It was raining when I visited the New Mosque in the bg so you had much better weather! Good sharpness and vibrant colour in this superb daily life scene. The fisherman at right anchors the shot and provides scale and context. Tfs!
Didi (60588) 2013-12-05 4:15
Very nice scene with a vey good soft lights ambiance
In this case I suggest you a little wider position to include the fisherman line and his arm on the right :)

Namaste, my friend Angshuman,
a real landmark of Istanbul, its iconic fishermen, who crowds the Galata Bridge. In this shot you have caught clearly one of them, but you have reserved a good space for the white ferry and the splendid architecture of the Yeni Camii in background.
All elements offers us the fantastic atmosphere of this wonderful city.
A beautiful composition.
PS: about my last photo of the spiral staircase in my hotel, I took it from the 5th floor, but I was lodging in the first floor.

Hello Mr. B,
It's a scene I know well, with "Yeni Cami" ("New Mosque") prominent in Eminönü on the other side of Galata Bridge. With all the lines and hooks hanging below the bridge, I've frequently wondered about the gauntlet that the fish must encounter, and what the probability of their eluding those lines. This such a familiar view for Istanbulites with a Ferry just leaving the dock in Eminüonü, but also a scene of nostalgia for me.
My best wishes to you and your family for the Holiday Season,
rigoletto (34279) 2013-12-20 0:24
another one from my backyard, hehehe :)
i was there two days ago, we recovered from a 3 days snowfall, now all has melted yet it is still chilling with a strong breeze, and the fishers do have the thickest garments possible, only visible are the eyes and noses. you were very very lucky with your splendid weather.
emka (100907) 2013-12-21 23:56
hello dear Angshu,
This is an iconic view from Istanbul - they are always fishing on Galata bridge and here is with the view of the new Mosque in Eminonu. Also for me it was my favorite place and I was nearby every day. excellent composition.
beautiful scene, nicely presented.
Warm regrads Malgo

A classic shot from Istanbul on this famous bridge. I have seen a few shot from here with the people fishing. However this may be one of the best POV I have seen and best light with the fisherman dorminating the foreground and yet the beautiful city scape in the background, featuring the city's landmark of the mosque. A wonderful combination of both with good sharpness and clarity throughout. My sincere complements.
Thank you. Wishing you and Happy and Healthy New Year.
ps. other than pf and here, I'm not posting anywhere else. I look in fricker but I got lost there. will see. Any other site you recommend?

Hello Angshuman. The photo shows a famous view of Istanbul. On this bridge, I also stood and watched the anglers. Yes, Istanbul is a cosmopolitan metropolis with a lot of flair.
