Back from a few days vacation in Istanbul ... a truly beautiful city full of photo opportunities! Let me begin with a view of the famous Blue Mosque -Sultanahmet Camii-, thus called because the interior is decorated with the famous tiles of Iznik, mainly blue.
Built facing Hagia Sophia, the mosque was instigated by Sultan Ahmet the first, who intended to demonstrate that Ottoman architects had nothing to envy from their Christian predecessors.
When one stands in the first courtyard at the blue hour (hence the strange title...), I can assure you that the show is breathtaking!

The blue mosque in blue... Very well seen and executed, a marvellous reflection complementing the golden colours of the mosque.

Hi Philippe, Glorious light & very good symmetry, the architecture is really wonderful & you have captured it brilliantly, a superb deep blue sky & I love the gloss finish on the floor & the stunning detail through-out, kind regards Wilson.

Blue Mosque of İstanbul is a "gem" for every photographer but you had luck to make this shot on a rainy day, with those wonderfull reflections on ageold marble coatings of the inner cout.
Veyr good pov and perfect light management.

The wet floor has had a probably unexpected and enhancing effect on the image. As well as your good timing to catch the blue hour you also captured the wonderful reflections. Excellent shot; very well exposed.

After reading your explanations to Kath, I must say not only did you made a wonderful postcard of Istanbul, but you really maximized your photographic opportunities, seizing the one moment when, even with bad weather, shots look good and capturing the glossy floor one would otherwise miss. Colors, symmetry and pov are perfect!

just read your response to Kath's comment about the wet floor, and your words about "cursing the bad weather" reminded me of a quote from a book on landscape photography that blaming bad weather is simply an excuse for not exploring all possibilities :)
for me the reflection of the mosque is key in this image, there's something ethereal in the abstract patterns of the lights, I find it adds a feeling of weightless-ness to the whole scene. and blue hour is the best time for shots like this, no question about that. great result, I like it a lot.

Great shot! You really took advantage of the blue hour to get the best of this, as the warm light on the building contrasts strongly with the deep blue of the sky. Wonderful shot!

Lovely blue hour while the yellow and blues play off well against each other. I love the wet floor at the bottom which gives off a gleam and nice reflection. Fine perspective also.
