This may well seem a thankless task, two young novices sweep the bat droppings from floor of Saddar Cave, one of the largest in the Kayin countryside. The cave is home to a large bat population, the sound is incredible and the smell overpowering.

Really Burma, Elaine!
The atmosphere, the magic, it's all there! I haven't visited this place but it seems fantastic - is that a window in background? I really like the presence of the two novices in such a place and the effect of the smoke coming from the darkness - Good colours, light and sharpness!

Quite a remarkable shot here... The light in the smoke and on the young novices, while the cave entrance in the back stays dark...

great, just great !
I like the smoke and the contrast between the dark rocks and these little monks dressed in red and at the right place, in a ray of sun light

Stupendous shot dear Elaine...the light management is just amazing. Light filters from the top, falls on the smoke and the two boys, while the cave is dark in the BG! Exellent.

Great place to photograph them, the other sacred land after, the upper himalayas and tibet of course, love the way the light plays into the funnel of smoke, great stuff Elaine..

I think this is a great photo, the contrasts between dark areas and light creates quite a drama, and your timing was perfect to capture the kids in the stream of light. but the best thing is the smoke, I find it makes everything look surreal and somewhat spooky. excellent work, my compliments.

What as scene, epic in its own way like an old illustration from the Bible. Interesting decision to crop it almost square, but why not? Anyway, it's a pretty sensational shot all around.

incredble daily life capture.

A great composition. The two little boys performing their unpleasant task are brightly lit against the backdrop of the dark cave. The smoke, or dust, rising thrugh the light creates an eerie atmosphere. The novices look so very small and vulnerable in this place.

I believe that this is a charming and full of atmosphere photo. a banal comment perhaps, but I do not know to say better. The light that arrive from the high and the smoke that is detached from the background have something of magical, spiritual and ancient. Thus as it is this country in its essence. I love a lot. congrats.
have a nice evening, ciao

The dramatic lighting and the huge rise of smoke make this a great Burma shot.

Sweeping bat droppings in a cave...now, I'm sure there's a worthy lesson in that!
Great picture, Elaine. I love the smoke rising up and the choice of format. The blackness in the background is so..err...black.
Happy trails to you!
