Visiting Holsworthy Market yesterday we came across Dan the Fishman.
Dan specialises in local fish caught on small boats fishing off the North Devon Coast around Clovelly which boasts some of the cleanest waters in Britain.

Hi Les, What a jolly fisherman you have captured so well, super colours, clarity and control of the light. Well done, hope you had the Skate for your Tea. Have a great Easter, Cheers Iain.

All fishermen should have a white beard like this one, don't you agree? Especially when there's a big smile in there too. A great picture of a proud man - and he has every right to be!
I hope you bought the fish.

I like very much this spontaneous portrait and friendly smile. The photo is very well composed and framed with superb clarity and lovely natural colours. There's a nice sense of depth and an interesting view at the back. The fish looks so fresh and the fisherman proud of it. A happy man who clearly loves his job. A lovely photo, thank you!
All the best,

This is a very pleasant and catchy photo. Mr Dan looks like a jolly person to do business with and the fish looks very appetizing. The colours are good and the composition is fine.

I've been to Clovelly but I've never seen this plaice before! Mmmm. Sorry.
What a fantastic portrait! It would appear that your best human subjects all sport beards but I'm afraid Dan's beard doesn't quite match up to the splendid specimen belonging to your shepherd friend, Colin - that one must have taken him a lifetime to grow.
But Dan looks such a happy fellow and you have caught his happiness and his cheeky smile perfectly. His stance is wonderful too as he holds aloft a prize fish with his big chunky fingers.
The colours here are fantastic: from Dan's strong complementary colours of blue and yellow to the slightly more muted background colours. The focus is perfect too with Dan and the fish pin-sharp and the background demonstrating a fine bokeh. Spot-on exposure too and excellent sharpness. And, of course, a fine note to top it all off!

tis makes me smile. The fisherman has such a jolly face and as round as the fish he holds up!Nicely composed so that we can see what other fish he has for sale.

A truly rewarding shot here, great colours, the smile of a proud man and his speciality. There's a really nice balance of elements/focal points, human and other elements in this scene that reflects the energy of the market. A wonderful place to chill but abundance of photographic opportunities for sure. Good shot, well spotted and excellent composed iamge and closeness. Well done. Congrats

everything works together very well, the main colors yellow, orange, blue, the size of the fish, sharpness and pov, but the smile of the fisherman is the best in this photo, it´s hear-twarming.

A super character shot showing this fisherman proudly displaying his catch. I like the bold yellows and the sharpness and your careful framing.
I hope that you enjoyed Easter but I think this Bank Holiday is going to be a complete wash out!
Best wishes, Ann

This is a wonderful daily life capture with the fishmonger advertising the big fish for the taking. I like the smile and colorful apron in close framing.
Thanks and kind regards.

Hello Leslie - I'm back from a trip and catching up on recent posts. You have posted two very lovely land/sea scapes since this one and I love landscapes. This one though really catches my eye, due I think to the brilliant yellow apron. Closer inspection shows the lovey array of fresh fish.... something I love and miss. The fish will not take much selling and who could doubt an open face like Dan's? A fine shot. Warm regards Rosemary

A very joyful portrait, colourful, sharp and pleasant to look at. Dan has certainly the right head for the job ("la tête de l'emploi" we say in French). Great shot.

this man seems to be a spiritual brother of the dönerci in Antalya. Great colourful portrait.
