We decided to head out to the Malecon, its a 7km long stretch of seaside promenade hugging the Ocean. Its a popular place for everyone, tourists and locals, lovers and friends.
For sure its the most romantic area of Havana, couples kissing and embraced, friends sharing laughs, and local fishermen gambling on their luck.
Its hard NOT to head down to the waterfront at sunset, and on this evening I focused in on the local fishermen.
I'll try to post a WS photo of the Malecon as well, so you'll see what i'm writing about.
Thanks for looking

I have with a lot attention looked to your two extra pictures, I find the "Altered Image #1" the most beautiful of the three picture.
Real summery and with excellent depth and perspective.
Excellent composition, TFS.

bel servizio fotografico, ma questo scatto è proprio bello.
Una scelta millimetrica nel taglio verticale e una silhouette perfetta, lo sfondo dorato è magnifico.

Excellent silhouette result, perfectly managed, so beautiful warm tones for the sky.

You old romantic you! A perfect golden backdrop for this dynamic silhouette of the fisherman. Ideally composed, with superb colours and well managed backlighting.

Hi Craig, very good picture of this interesting backlight on the Malecon in Havana, beautifully captured in this beautiful composition with good sharpness, light and color. Very good and interesting job well done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this interesting work.
Good morning and happy Sunday.
Happy and Prosperous New Year.
Best wishes from southern Spain.

Superb composition, as the rod reaches into the upper right of the frame, filling just the right amount and leaving that wonderful golden sky to appreciate. This man makes such a perfect silhouette, especially placed directly in front of the sun like this. A very peaceful and relaxing scene with excellent gold tones.
Thanks as always

was surprised when I saw your name on this one. It is a wonderfully original and beautifully managed image. Love the golden light and the arty way you have composed this. Excellent!
Have a good last weekend of 2013 - B.

holmertz (50782) 2013-12-28 6:14
I like the two workshops too, but no doubt this is the most interesting composition. You got a perfect black silhouette against the sky on fire just before sunset. The rod makes a perfect diagonal just about to reach the upper corner, from where the line hangs down as an equally perfect vertical. The Malecon area looks a bit rundown but then I guess most of Cuba is rather rundown.

like brian, i am so alienated to the connection between craig and this photo of his. not in a bad sense though, this one is great! and something i like doing too: trying different things, finding new meadows to graze in the endless fields of photography. i love how the rod meets the corner and the line falls down freely through the right side.

Striking composition with the silhouette managed very well directly against the sun. Beautiful colours and clarity. Thanks for sharing. Have a nice day.

Lovely, atmospheric photo. I like that you shot into the setting sun, and it was level with the man's face; it creates an aura around him. The way the fishing line and hanging hook are exactly in the upper, right corner is also great. It's simple yet strong, and I always like silhouettes. :-)

La très belle teinte du ciel avec la silhouette du pêcheur forment un composiiton agréable.
Les détails de la lignes et de l'hameçon sont bien rendus.
adramad (44330) 2013-12-28 14:55
A fantastic and very original composition, I love the backlight fisherman, with the sky a yellow color, so unusual, the diagonal makes the fishing rod on the sky is a great compositional success.
Very good sharpness and brightness.
Well done. I love it.
Enjoy the weekend.

WS #1 should be posted separately, as it give a fabulous view along the waterfront promenade, in a stunning blue dominating tone. Yet, must say you taken the angler from a very difficult angle, and managed suprbly with the strong sun backlight, to show a wonderful silhouette of him.
Nice shown all three posts.
Have a nice Sunday of Year's end.

Normally mty reaction to this wonderfull capture should be a long "wooow" but I'm afraid that the moderator would pass me a penalty :-))
Anyhow, very good contra-lumiere trial of this fisher.
Very good layout and great graphism.
TFS and best regards

I was very curious of your vision of this famous promenade and I have to say you don´t disappoint me with this one.
Brilliant shot and really well considered with only one man against so beautiful setting sun-very expressive and evocative!
Wish You a Happy New Year!

ahh really nice, reminiscent of some of Abmdsudi's beautiful photos of fishermen. I bet Tosca loved this place. The silhouette is stunning, as are the golden colours and the way you managed shooting into the sun like that. Excellent vertical frame and the effect of the clouds is exquisite.
A happy, wonderful, travel-ridden 2014 to you. Tosca and your families. I'll be raising a glass of Prosecco in your honour - which will be in about 3.5 hours!

Ja sam strastven ribolovac, ja volim ovakve trenutke ...
Dobar trenutak snimka i kontrast, lepe boje.
Nadam se da je lov ribe bio uspesan.
Srecan vam nova godina, sve najbolje u daljem radu i zivotu sa dobrim zdravljem.
I am an avid fisherman, I love moments like this ...
Good time recording and contrast, beautiful colors.
A nice moment.
I hope that the fishing was successful.
Happy New Year, all the best in their future work and life with good health.

Craig, the first thing that caught my eye about this shot was the geometry, which I really love. Perfect job situating the end of the fishing rod at the corner of the photo. Lovely colors in addition, with great sharpness - you can even see the fishing line at right. Thanks.
Subhogen (4067) 2014-01-01 3:26
Nice silhouette shot of this angler. I like the details you have captured on his fishing rod even in silhouette. Fantastic minimal composition. Lovely warm golden colors of the sky make it so eye-catching. I like it a lot. Thanks for sharing and wish you a very Happy New Year.

sun, sun and more sun... never enough for me:) Your pic is just drowning in its golden light, what can be more attractive? Amazing composition with the fisherman too, the black silhouette looks so artistic... really great shot, warm and bright.
Happy New Year!
P.S. Moscow sucks this winter, no snow, no sun...dirty, dreary and boring:(
chawax (20640) 2014-01-03 13:43
Great shot ! I love the shape of the fisherman and the warm colours of the sunset.
Have a good year 2014 !

Looking at the other photos, both of which are great, this main post just goes to show the creative thinking side and potential derived from the location and material provided. What a cool way to present the daily life of the local fisherman. I almost want to squint my own eyes, thinking that the sun is going to blind me if I stare too long or closely....oh, if only your poor camera could speak! :)
This has fantastic appeal to my senses, mainly because there's a strong silhouette, but also the bright and warm colors that project such an tropical type of atmosphere. Clearly a conscious and careful composition, extending the fishing rod right to the upper corner of the frame with the line and hook dangling gently below. Awesome vision to forecast this result. The best thing about this though, it doesn't smell fishy! :)
Take it easy. Cheers from Arid-zona,
