Photographer's Note
Rapeseed oil comes from oilseed rape, a root vegetable and cousin of mustard cabbage. The name is derived from the Old English term for turnip rapum. And yes, it comes from those yellow fields you can see in late spring.
Rapeseed oil contains less saturated fat and has far more omega 3 than olive oil and it also contains vitamin E.

hi leslie,
this is a stunning picture. the luminousity of the rape seed is superb, especially contrasted against the deep blues of the sky. the formation of the clouds adds some drama to the scene. your viewpoint creates a good wide perspective with the lines leading nicely towards the horizon.

brian

Hi Leslie
A spectacular warm vs cold color contrast between the yellow flowers & blue sky & I like the added bonus here of the linear perspective straight down the centre with the 3 unbroken rows. Good saturation & sharpness. Have a nice weekend!

La composition est magnifique et la lumière somptueuse. Très belles couleurs, peut-être un tout petit peu trop saturées et contrastées ce qui donne l'impression d'une légère surexposition dans les nuages?

Hello Les,
I was amazed the other day to see this crop beginning to flower in eastern Scotland - I always thought it flowered later in the year but perhaps that has all been due to our fine and warm early spring weather.
This is a beautifully composed picture, the lines of the tractor tracks leading the eye nicely toward the distant fields and hills, aided by the low hedge on the left. The contrasts between the two complementary colours - blue and yellow - are perfectly demonstrated here and the detail and sharpness are superb.
Interestingly, you have managed perfectly to show every little flower head of the rapeseed - often I find it becomes just a like a sea of bright yellow with little detail. The sky, of course, is second only in stardom to the yellow field with gorgeous puffy white clouds.
Gorgeous colours, perfect exposure and stunning sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Leslie - The colour of the blooming rape, lush green fields and deep blue sky are real attention grabbers and the addition of the snow white clouds adds very good contrast. A good composition too, I like the trails through the rape, they give extra interest to the shot. Lovely work. Warm regards Rosemary

Hello Les,
Fields of oilseed rape make the most wonderful, colourful pictures and I always look forward to seeing them posted. It is not a crop that is grown around N.E. Lancs so I have to rely on others for that experience.
The tractor lines, along with the parallel hedge, make excellent guides towards the distant horizon, whilst the sky, with its fluffy clouds is a pleasing element in its own right.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

This looks more like Sicily than England! Amazing! Such a beautiful profusion of the rape seeed which provides and excellent texture and its bright colour contrasts superbly against the blue sky. The clouds add a sense of depth too. Lovely shot and so uncharacteristically Mediterranean for the Old Dart!
Warm regards to you and G
