Tulips among trees, a photo from Istanbul, Marmara

Photographer's Note

In 2007, there were really unbelievable tulips all around Istanbul. They don't last too long certainly, but in the meantime it is very enjoyable to go and discover new sights where these displays are. Gulhane Park was such a place, although the best parterres are usually found in Emirgan Park. Here I was impressed by the austere grey of the trees which sided with the packed deep red of the tulips. Nothing except grey and red was my idea when I set a long lens with a tripod, the 70-300 mm which became almost 400 mm in this case.

Hi Izzet. Beautiful and very striking composition. I didn't realise that tulips grew so profoundly in a forest setting. My only suggested improvement would be to have used a tripod and got some extra depth of field as so little of the image is in sharp focus. Nevertheless, it's a very eye-catching piece of work. les tulipes rouges accrochent le regard et contrastent bien avec les troncs gris dont j'aime la texture! une belle mise au point sélective pour nous présenter ce merveilleux 'jardin'!

Very nice one, Izzet. Fine contrast between the lush vivid red of the tulip blossoms, and the tree trunks. I actually like the soft effect towards the background. A good idea, well executed.

Our Canada trip is almost finished, we're back in Calgary now.

Wow, this is a really extraordinary shot! I can honestly say that I would have never thought of this shot, with the long telephoto lens, compressing the view between the trees. This makes it appear that the flowers are so profuse and tightly packed that they are almost a carpet of red. Great idea, and beautiful result!
