This elegant spiral staircase is one of the earliest examples of cantilever stair design and can be found in Queen's House. The house was built in 1616 for Queen Anne on the banks of the river Thames and is now part of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.

This is an excellent composition : very good exposure (difficult to get in such conditions because of different levels of light... there's just a little over-exposition around the lamp, on the left), good choice of angle and an optimum framing. Well seen Nina, congratulations.
Porteplume (3393) 2003-10-13 17:46
Please don't think it's just a critique in return Nina. ;o) But really! This image shot just in my eyes! Incredible sharpness and brightness... Looks like draw with a ink pen and filled with fluorescent paint.
AdrianW (2274) 2003-10-13 17:56
Nice shot! I've always liked spiral staircases, and I love the composition - the way the eye is drawn from the bottom right to the upper middle. Not sure whether that's a light or some flare on the stair nearest the bottom right though - whatever it is I might be tempted to crop it out... In some ways it actually reminds me of an eye as well - good work :-D
sarastro (588) 2003-10-13 18:16
Great picture, just breathtaking. And I love how the blue color of the railing just appears at higher levels.
Guzman (577) 2003-10-13 18:31
Top marks , excellent shot, clear and crisp, I also am an avid fan of this type of image you have captured the colours just right with the creams diminishing in sympathy with the helix of the spiral the blues taking over when the creams fade out .
dopiro (835) 2003-10-13 18:47
Beautiful image of a spiral.
The balance of colors is stunning and the composition is perfect.
ninadev (5377) 2003-10-13 19:53
Really nice, sharp and clear, composition great and I love how the handrail changes from black to blue because of the light coming from the skylight.
mimi (2325) 2003-10-13 20:06
Spectacular. It almost looks like a painting. Beautiful composition, colors, and lighting.
julienventrap (401) 2003-10-13 21:18
Beautiful shot, very graphic, I like it. I first though about an blue eye with make up... Good work.
martin (1242) 2003-10-14 3:15
The composition and form are such that this would be very effective even in B&W. But the unusual and subtle colour variations make this an outstanding image.
cdewet (0) 2003-10-14 14:45
Now this is what we call impact and mood - just too lovely and great colours. Speldid, Lady.
Malvinna (40) 2003-10-14 16:17

I have no flesh to be put on my criticism as it is said in the forum but I may admire the composition, the graph and the colours. A great photo.
Je n'ai pas de chair à mettre sur ma critique comme il est dit dans le forum mais je puis admirer la composition, le graphique et les couleurs. Une grande photo.

Actually Nina, it's hard to find one particularly favourite. This i s a very nice shot - almost unreal. Then i looked in the rest of your CV. and found several treasures. (mind the spelling)
Kenny10pin (19301) 2003-10-31 6:30
Great picture, it almost looks unreal. Great capture and well done for spotting it. It also almost looks like an eye ball staring at you.
Jamiep (236) 2003-11-01 3:42
Love it - the colours get more vivid as your eye goes up.
I will have to visit and see if I can get close.
nwoehnl (122) 2003-11-03 10:43
Wow, this is one of the best I've seen on TE. Superb composition and great colors. The different shades of blue in the banisters, leading to the view of the bright blue sky, are great.
manny (21833) 2003-11-03 19:40
This is extremely unique and well-captured. I like the composition a lot.The combination of the colors is also beautiful. A Perfect shot!

kartinka (17) 2004-01-08 14:50
Супер ракурс! Выглядит как графическая игра, в зависимости от взгляда на картинку меняется сюжет, просто супер!
gmsanchez (0) 2004-02-26 20:38
Fantastic photo Nina, the geometry, and the colours. Very Original
taivo (1843) 2004-03-01 1:54

gardenwife (103) 2004-04-10 1:37
What an absolutely stunning photo. It looks like a blue eye. It's just perfect, and the history is an added benefit. Wonderful!
weiphoto (335) 2004-04-16 1:54
Beautiful design. How did you capture the blue on the top banisters? Eye catching, especially with the central sky light being a similar hue
rabani (9645) 2004-08-24 4:58
Lost for words here.Sometimes a simple green smiley just doesn't justify grading a photo like this.
aimeric (265) 2004-09-17 22:25
lovely pic, very attractive, thanks for sharing
maphoto (8082) 2004-11-29 23:31

Une photo tout simplement magnifique. Aucun défaut. Tout est bon.
DuFrank (150) 2005-03-14 14:30
Hi Nina. I like this photograph because it looks a lot like an illustration, while it's clearly a photograph. Like the bright blue up there. If you stare long enough it changes into an eye that stares right back.....
No! I've have not been smoking something weird! :-) My compliments for a great shot.
ixtanbul7 (447) 2005-03-22 9:28
realy a greal shot...welldone...
beyaz_toprak (355) 2005-06-09 4:24
hayu (640) 2005-07-11 3:56
Hi Nina, this is an amzingly beautiful composition of forms and colours. Awesome. Regards, Huub
arenderin (11) 2005-07-22 13:46
Nina I like your "eyes",cause they must be capable of observing the world differently.Nice to see your photos. They're worth of watching for hours.
cederico (0) 2005-07-25 4:43
I like the esthetism of this shot, the spiral is well caught and the color going from black to blue = stairs up to the sky !
dantor (122) 2005-09-09 10:18
Like DuFrank, this superb photo reminds me of a graphic design (illustration). The composition is perfect with the "eye" on top watching. In fact you could have called it THE EYE or something like that. The contrast between the colours and the contrast between the curves and the straight lines give depth and life to this surreal shot.
hlaingwinnhtun (139) 2005-11-06 3:44
Great POV. u got nice photo. i like the blue color of stair and the color at the center of this photo. it's really tulip stair !!

MLINES (12516) 2006-06-23 1:08
Hi Nina, Certainly elegant is the word here. Perhaps the best spiral staircase seen to date. Perfect POV and cropping. Murray.
DarkoG (8) 2006-06-24 4:45
Everything on this photo has it's best possible position. Spiral that goes diagonally from bottom right to top left, excellent light gradation, very subtle colours.
I just love this shot for it's strong graphical impact. Nice job.
saeedabbasi (298) 2006-09-13 1:00

KevRyan (22952) 2007-02-26 15:45
Beautifully shot Nina - this is an absolutely compelling image.....wonderful......perhaps a little vignetting at the corners and perhaps the sky is a little turquoise ..but i guess this is also the effect of the glass in the skylight.....wonderful!
best wishes Kev

Shanky (96) 2012-12-26 22:37
Great POV, stunning colors, sharp, detailed and crispy, excellent framing.
I think a BW version would be equally good.
kasianowak (4882) 2014-02-03 4:00
Splendid work with outstanding graphic qualities. The composition is great and well done on exposure, especially preserving the colour of the sky in the window which provides an eye-catching splash of blue.
