We spent about 1hr at the station. With luck, not planning on our part, 2 steam trains pulled into Goathland at about the same time but travelling in opposite directions. The train in this image was heading North towards Whitby.
Goathland railway station is a station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and serves the village of Goathland in the North York Moors National Park, North Yorkshire, England. It is famous for appearing in the television series Heartbeat, as Hogsmeade station, and the Hogwarts Express stop at in the Harry Potter films .
The village of Goathland was the setting of the fictional village of Aidensfield in the Heartbeat television series set in the 1960s. Many landmarks from the series are recognisable, including the stores, garage/funeral directors, the public house and the railway station. The pub is called the Goathland Hotel, but in the series is the Aidensfield Arms.
The railway is run by a charitable trust with some paid staff but is mostly operated by volunteers, running nearly all the year including Christmas. It carries more than 250,000 passengers a year and is the second-longest preserved line in Britain. It links Grosmont in the north with Pickering in the south. It follows the route of the 19th century line that connected to Whitby. From spring 2007 some trains on the railway are timetabled to run to Whitby.

hi Trevor, love this capture , I like how you have managed to get the "Fat controller" by him self, not easy to do on that station, its usually packed with as your comments say "Heartbeat & Harry Potter fans. The run from Whitby to Pickering is stunning what ever the time of year, in summer the moors are purple with the heather and in winter the snow covered landscape is amazing
Hope you enjoyed your stay in my part of the country.

I love steam locomotives and you have given us an excellent and informative note as well as a very appealing photograph.
Not only do we see the locomotive steaming away and ready to go, but there is also action here - the guardsman waving and blowing his whistle too. And I love how you have captured his reflection in the dark carriage window.
An excellent composition with lovely rich colours, good lighting, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

A very nice shot combining fine colours, a cultural heritage of a kind, human activities and a nice reflection in the window, It's nicely cropped and with good clarity.

I see "North York" and it seems me as New York ))) Excellent capture, very interesting composition, amazing reflection. I like this nostalgic tendention in Europa, once I met similar steam-loco in Vienna. It gave a stream of steam and we just got lost on the perron.
