Taken with my old Canon AE1 Program & now scaned, this photo was of a passenger boat going past the tent opening, I just got the camara out in time. At the time we were camping on the edge of lake Geneva Switzerland.

An interesting and not everyday picture - an eye catcher! There's nothing spectacular in it, but it gives the feeling of summer and warmth. A lovely shot!
Greetings from Germany - and have a nice weekend!
broglia (3598) 2007-02-24 7:34
Hi Wilson - nicely framed shot, something a little different. The balance of the light is good. I like the echo of the tent colour in the Swiss flag on the back of the ferry. Regards, Roberto
Gustaw (21670) 2007-02-24 7:39
Very nice composition. I like your idea! Nice view. I like your ship and natura - lake, mountains. Well done.
baba_flies (8829) 2007-02-24 7:51
Funny catch, Wilson. A different approach seeing Luzern, but so typical the ship moving by. I am a tenter too but usually I do it abroad so not much experience in my own country. I did not know that Luzern has a campground ... you had a room with a view, not bad! Barbara.
GottaCarpeDiem (190) 2007-02-24 7:57
Wow! This is an original! The tent opening creates an unusual frame. Not the typical view from a tent, well at least not for me!
Thanks for sharing!

C’est un point de vue très original avec en plus le passage de ce beau bateau dans le champ. C’est très bien vu !
Bien à toi,
gunbud (34066) 2007-02-24 14:38
Very clever framing with this view from your tent flap. The colors are warm and relaxing. The passing ferry makes a very dramatic subject to this fine photo.
nels (2621) 2007-02-24 14:44
hi wilson,, unique framing of the ship ( is she an old paddle steamer)well composed tfs
jmcl (14535) 2007-02-24 16:28

Budapestman (82620) 2007-02-24 17:58
This is a very attractive and particular impression. I like the interesting and spectacular POV. The tent framing is very good idea. Excellent timing and superb composition. Splendid shot. Have a nice weekend!
vinicio (23415) 2007-02-24 19:10
AMusing play whit this kind of coloured window Wilson, well done, the ciew from this point is nice and the boat adds good dynamims to the image, compliments.
Have a nice sunday
clnaef (6289) 2007-02-25 5:12
Excellente idée de cadre. Sa couleur est impeccable.
bibiweb (8) 2007-02-25 8:03
Sorry to disagree with you, but this is clearly not on the edge of Lake Lucerne. The boat, (just a passenger boat, not a ferry) is the Vevey that sails on Lake Geneva. The flags of Switzerland and France on either end of the boat confirm that we are on this lake which is boarded by both countries.
Edit: Thanks for the correction! It must be very pleasant to awake in the morning to the sound of the horns of the passing boats!
Uhu (8407) 2007-02-25 8:24
Oh, it's a great coloristic work, red curtain works as a frame. Wonderful idea, I like it very much.
Gerrit (45711) 2007-02-25 10:31
very original framing. Good view too.
prumod (8300) 2007-02-25 10:38

chrisnet (21088) 2007-02-25 11:57
I like this original and interesting framing, good idea, very well done!
sadeik (3268) 2007-02-25 15:50
Clever shot, I really like this one. I wonder what this would look like in black and white as the boat is old fashioned
veve (4189) 2007-02-26 8:59
Interesting and original idea!
Good framing and view!
pboehringer (770) 2007-02-26 11:57
really not to bad scanning quality, but who cares about such a detail seeing such a funny and well composed scene. I like to see the detail of the french flag on the front and the swiss on the back of the ship. That embodies a lot of the swiss spirit. I cannot vision the same here in the US with a ship having the canadian or the mexican flag joining the star & stripes.
Mikos (4326) 2007-02-26 15:37
I like a lot to compose or create pictures where framing is a nautal thing, just like your picture here. It works perfectly, and it gives such a nice visual result!
Very well done!
Thanks a lot for your words about my last picture ;-)
Have a nice day!
cobbydale (1958) 2007-02-26 16:26

Une photo vraiement originale avec ce bateau en ligne de mire...
danyy (0) 2007-02-26 16:59
an original framing to show us a majesty of the lake :-).
Une manière inhabituelle, un spectable pas banal, lors de l'ouverture d'une tente de camping.
emjleclercq (15780) 2007-02-27 18:15
Amusing and colorfull framing. And the steam paddle ship on the lake is beautifull, worth a picture by herself. Good scanning of this old negative.
All the best,
Cuba-Junky (2817) 2007-02-28 1:29
Oh how I feel the cozyness of a little tent from this shot. :)
feather (51130) 2007-02-28 11:39
Great shot. I love the natural framing of the tent opening. You timed your shot to perfection to get the boat to fit the frame.
isade1975 (3372) 2007-02-28 13:17
A very beautiful place for camping and your framing is really great !!!!
Very well done!
FORJP001 (3819) 2007-02-28 15:20
Great idea shooting this paddle boat on the Geneva lake from inside a red tent.
The frame look as a tremendous success and viewer thinks he is inside a new kind of boat with a futurist bull's-eye.
deblink (2548) 2007-03-01 1:47
I like this image, you did manage to get it in time, nice view you had from your tent. The photo scanned quite well. Great shot.
jhm (136550) 2007-03-01 8:10
For a scanning picture very well done!
I find these picture in colour better than the sepia, this is very lovely image look through the door of the tent, I can enjoy from the boat on the river, it's almost a fairy tale!
Thanks for sharing.
Have a nice day,
rakeshgupta (2672) 2007-03-02 8:45
This is a great shot. The framing through tent was an intelligent decision. The ship is looking great. Even though it is scanned, I can see entire details.
Very well composed and framed.
Photo65Net (43120) 2007-03-02 13:40
Nice idea, with great eye to catch the boat and the tent.
You managed exposure perfectly, very nice job.
MLINES (12516) 2007-03-03 15:48
Hi Wilson. Good creative composition of this beautiful boat cruising along Lake Geneva as seen from your tent!. Imacculate timing as it would only be there for fraction of a second!. Good clarity and colours. TFS. Murray.
robiuk (10807) 2007-03-03 17:25
Hello again, Wilson!
Quite unusual and original 'natural' framing
for this boat (never seen anyone using it
Love to see that patch of green grass being in
harmony with red tent, and the boat on the lake.
Simple, but eye-catching!
cam (9041) 2007-03-03 21:39
AE1P,my first camera. Now my daughter is using it.
Unusual presentation. You sure have a good eye when comes the time to orient your tent, and the god of photographers is with you on that day.
pat0500 (21561) 2007-03-04 4:38
Excellent idea as point of view of the tent.
The mountains in bottom of screen gives very well.
Very nice composition...!
ocskaymarci (2660) 2007-03-04 14:04
Interesting photo! I like this way of framing very much!
The colours are a bit pale I thik, but all in all a very creative photo!
Tue (27336) 2007-03-04 15:37
Great use of the tent as a frame for the view over the lake as well as the ship. I like the way the colour of the tent contrasts with the rather grey colour of the water. Very nice work, well done!
Graal (95972) 2007-03-05 2:20
unusual view and composition, good idea with natural frame and "window". Friends all told You. I like this work also.
leo61 (0) 2007-03-05 2:43
Good idea for this shot and a great result.Well composed with the ship at the perfect position and the part of grass, which gives a good contrast with the red tent.
euryan (8438) 2007-03-05 15:51
This is a great idea and you executed it very well. The red color of the tent is the perfect frame and really makes this photo stand out. Perfect timing on the boat! The DOF is good also with the boat perfectly sharp. I love it.
jrj (34841) 2007-03-06 7:09
Good use of the tent Wilson and a well made scanning. And even tighter crop at the sides had worked here I think - still an interesting overall result.
poulinp (4530) 2007-03-06 7:26
This is one of the most original framing I saw! You had a beautiful view, for sure! Good idea, good shot.
anducina (8407) 2007-03-06 15:13

ephemere33 (9743) 2007-03-06 18:36

tinamunk3 (6404) 2007-03-09 16:19
Well, the framing couldn't be better, Wilson and I guess it was a beautiful place for camping :O) You sure managed to click at the right time.
pastadog (13111) 2007-03-10 14:29
Hi Wilson... certainly unusual sight in your creative shot; the boat passing thru a hole in the tent of course something rarely seen... but also good colours and exposure, cheers :) Daniel
Guluzar (379) 2007-03-13 16:58
Excellent shot...nice and clear, lovely color and mood...what else can I say? Good work.

bakes888 (18499) 2007-03-17 3:54
Hi Wilson. I love the sense of place in this shot, it brings back memories from not too long ago of summer camping. Well captured and thanks for sharing.
jbweasle (9373) 2007-03-17 6:38
Great framing! The unusual surrounding to this picture is what really makes it. The boat is perfectly captured. The red of the tent also brings out the small patches of red on the flags.
everlasting (14496) 2007-03-24 2:41
Just in time to get the boat to fit the frame so perfectly. I always like the use of natural framing
brevbrev14 (140) 2007-03-29 13:04

The colours are wonderful!

a very well composed shot! congrats as you have captured in no time.
banyanman (7789) 2007-04-07 12:04
One of the most unusual compositions that I have seen on TE for a while, Wilson, and very effective. Your timing was perfect - a few seconds later and you would have missed this photo op. I note you took it in 1998, but it could just have well have been 1968. Cheers . . . David
muratcaloglu (2) 2007-04-11 10:59
very interesting POV and nice colors contributing the scene with a very photographic object: boat.
sebinho342 (19317) 2007-04-12 9:31
Hi Wilson, i'm not sure to have already come visit your gallery and i have tosay i have pleasure browsing it. I'll pick this one, even if it already had lot of success and for sure everything had been said but to say a big "waouu" ... this is beautiful and what a place and POV from your tent !
That gives a beautiful compo and graphical picture
Kevin64 (138) 2007-04-16 20:07

melmcree (18) 2007-04-20 13:32
what a neat perspective. I love to camp but never thought about using the opening for a frame. Very creative.
batalay (35041) 2007-04-26 7:29
Here I enthusiastically join the chorus of admirers of the superb shot. You've timed that fleeting moment when the ferry was passing by, and framed it with the tent-portal. Well done! The colors are very dramatic also.
berseph (1758) 2007-04-26 23:49
What an excellent POV. I like your view looking out of this little hole in your tent, with such a beautiful view of the lake and the boat. Good timing for this one.

Beautifully crafted, with a daring composition and great perspective and POV, A work one can be proud about.
crhieatt (5347) 2007-07-09 14:44
Try as I might to avoid heaping further praise on your most popular photo - I just couldn't help myself - it's really good, and the odd thing is, it really doesn't come across as a "camping" shot. Somehow that light coming through the red material, and the grandeur of the passing boat, make me think that this must be some grand marquee filled with proncess and princesses sipping chamgpagne and nibbling cavier on the watery banks of their very own kingdom.
PerR (1513) 2007-07-22 11:57
Unusual but great POV. Good exposure gives the photo great light and colours. Well done. TFS
