This is a view of Freudenberg. I have chosen the Black & White category but actually it is a colour picture. You can see some dark green window shutters... The picture was taken early morning, with the sunshine in the right direction.
Some information from Wikipedia:
The town of Freudenberg in its current form came into being through municipal reform on 1 January 1969. Into it the seventeen formerly self-standing municipalities of Alchen, Bottenberg, Bühl, Büschergrund, Dirlenbach, Freudenberg, Heisberg, Hohenhain, Lindenberg, Mausbach, Niederheuslingen, Niederholzklau, Niederndorf, Oberfischbach, Oberheuslingen, Oberholzklau and Plittershagen were merged into one.
The oldest constituent communities are most likely the two that were both mentioned in documents in the 11th century, namely Plittershagen and Oberholzklau in 1079. Freudenberg is known to have been an Amt and court seat as of the early 15th century. The village and the castle of Freudenberg had their first documentary mention in 1389.
The castle was founded over the Weibe Valley together with a settlement by the Counts of Nassau as a corner post of their domain. Count Johann IV of Nassau, Vianden and Diez gave the Freudenberg townsfolk their "freedom rights" on 7 November 1456. This was a kind of minimal town rights, but the document bestowing this distinction upon the town is taken as evidence of town rights being granted Freudenberg. Documents give clues that Freudenberg was established quite early on as a "Flecken", or market town. The historic town core is even still called Alter Flecken (alt means "old"; er is a grammatical inflection).
In 1540, both the castle and the town were heavily damaged by a fire. On William the Rich's orders, there came into being about the mid 16th century new building works. The market town was given a new town wall with four gates. In the northwest, the Hohenhainer Tor was built, in the northeast the Weihertor, in the southeast the Braastor and in the southwest the Schultor (Tor means "gate"). However, owing to yet another town fire on 9 August 1666, the town was once again laid waste. Prince Johann Moritz von Nassau-Siegen built the town anew, using much the same layout, planned in 1540, as had stood before the fire. The castle, however, was not restored, and to this day, all that can be seen of it are a few wall remains.

now this is an odd photo for you...no people :)
how did you manage that one?
of course at first glance its easy to think its a black and white, but the longer we look the more the greens come out.
its a really cool look Gunnar, nice shot indeed.

Hello Gunnar - These houses make the most wonderful subject with their black and white faįades and uniformly shaped roofs. Whoever decided to align them thus made a great decision for the 'photographer' and you have found a good position from which to take advantage of the rhythm the repeating shapes make. Initially, each house looks identical but we see, on closer examination, that there is an individuality about each one.
A super architectural shot. I like the closely packed frame.
holmertz (36441) 2014-07-01 8:36
ikeharel (51473) 2014-07-01 8:37
Good evening Gunnar, my today's neighbour on TE.
A fantastic view on the same pattern houses facades, under bright daylight that enhanced details and the outlines.
Marvelous effect, superbly collected on photo.
danos (82665) 2014-07-01 9:14
excellent the ceated textue from the light that falls on the facades of the houses, making the scene so beautiful and unique.I like the clarity and the sharpness of the image as the excellent presentation.
chrislo (4149) 2014-07-01 9:44
Even if the colours are natural, the image looks as if it had been desaturated in order to increase the visual impact and emphasize the geometrical shapes and strong lines. The composition is very eye-catching with this unique perspective that brings out the amazing repeating patterns of these picturesque half-timbered houses and creates a wonderful graphical effect. Stunning capture !

Hi Gunnar, it seems to me I have already seen this photo and even commented it. Probably on PF. Again, Fantastic graphic composition. Amazing, it seems black and white. Where is all colour gone?? Well observed and perfectly presented. Funny, all windows are closed, only one open and with laundry or maybe the quilt is taking air. How many triangles are there here:).
Fascinating place, why have you hidden it so much time?

ourania (25508) 2014-07-01 10:44
this is a very interesting and delightful urban view, I like very much the perspective and the framing you chose to enhance the mesmerizing rhythmical patterns of the architecture. My first impression really was that this photo was black and white, the green of the trees came as a surprise. I like how the trees seem to be desperately trying to break the rhythmical patterns and have a glimpse over the roofs:) You managed light, colour and contrast superbly. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
jemaflor (79970) 2014-07-01 10:46
Excellent pov on these houses and roofs, light is perfect, very good effect with this colors photo like a w&b version with contrast, interesting.
larsy (28) 2014-07-01 12:05
mjw364 (6992) 2014-07-01 12:11
I high contrast light that helps emphasise the shapes and patterns here, emphasised all the more by your POV and the compressed perspective feel this image has.
Noel_Byrne (20085) 2014-07-01 13:18
What a surreal and amazing scene, I have never seen anything like this before. It is like a scene from a fairy tale. The buildings themselves are incredible, and the tiny peaked shadows are such a bonus. You really took this at the precisely perfect moment.
Silvio1953 (115095) 2014-07-01 13:21
Ciao Gunnar, lovely geometric composition with fantastic graphic, excellent perspective, wonderful colors and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Hello dear Gunnar,
You've given color but it has the taste of a wonderfull b&w capture with perfect graphical effect.
TFS and best regards

Very impressive colors!!!
Interesting geometry of frame.
Good night Krzysztof

tyro (18286) 2014-07-01 15:40
I must confess that looked at this photograph quite closely before I read your note and thought to myself, "Gunnar doesn't often post black and white photographs" but then I looked even closer and saw green foliage of trees scattered throughout the frame - and then those dark green shutters too.
A very striking, almost "graphic" composition with lots of sharp angles - almost right angles - which is made even more striking by the very strong contrasts of light and shade and the fact that it is almost devoid of colour. Your exposure is spot-on and the details and sharpness are exquisite.
A very interesting and informative note too.
rychem (18837) 2014-07-01 20:49
WOW! Fantastic view! These half timbered houses are wonderful, absolutely splendid photo
dip (23510) 2014-07-02 1:43
although I don't live too far from there,I saw this town at first in TE on a photo from Frank (Buin),
the architectural unity of the houses is really impressive and create interesting graphical effects,
CLODO (28604) 2014-07-02 5:26
your cropped picture focuses the attention on the same house pattern to the infinite, moreover without colors (though you have some dark green at the top and on th etree and shutters!), it looks as a doll's village!
Sergiom (53775) 2014-07-02 6:49
Kielia (22913) 2014-07-02 7:35
excellent photo work, you have chosen an outstanding POV to capture these fascinating structures. The contrasts are amazing and the image almost looks like graphic art work. A great idea and a successful execution! My compliments also for the nice notes!
By the way: I know that this is Frank' s region. Did you meet him?
abmdsudi (38822) 2014-07-02 9:28
Interesting shot we've got here the treatment suits the capture in almost mono version where attention directed straight to the architectural features- the strong repeated shapes and detail without colour to distract. It's finely tight cropped with excellent tonal contrast, clean and bright shot seamlessly taken. congrats
PiotrF (3888) 2014-07-02 15:31
Very nice shot and composition showing so well these typical, German buildings. I like the distinctive high pointed roofs and the black and white of the timbering gives an excellent graphical quality to the image.
I like the way you filled the frame with top houses. It makes a very interesting view. I like the simple pattern of these homes
jhm (134472) 2014-07-03 3:50
Indeed we see green in the tree in foreground notwithstanding the black and white picture.
Wonderful place with a great architecture picture.
Excellent composition, nice presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Royaldevon (25896) 2014-07-03 3:52
What a shot!
It certainly hits the eyes with great force due to the sharp pitch of the roofs and sharp b&w contrast. It reminds me of dominoes, though, of course, the shapes are wrong.
A wonderfully sharp photograph of these amazing houses, clustered, with eyes wide open, watching some spectacle that we can only guess at!
Have a lovely day,
ChrisJ (94392) 2014-07-03 5:45
Amazing repetition of the geometric patterns and shapes and the receding angles and pov enhance the shot. Good sharpness and superb graphic elements of black and white that contrast perfectly. The small patches of green add interest to the partly de-saturated image. Tfs!
clic (13922) 2014-07-03 7:06
Enthralling picture, indeed, that shows the repetitive pattern of mostly-similar dwellings gathered for the family portrait!
They give me the impression I suddenly suffer of color blindness.
Thanks to Prince Johann Moritz for the resurrection of this part of town that gets a kick out of hypnotizing my attention!
serp2000 (37473) 2014-07-03 7:13
In thumbnail this photo looks like a black&white graphic picture, but I see this is real daily life scene. Impressive patterna of the houses, excellent choice of the point of view.
rigoletto (34109) 2014-07-03 7:14
wonderful graphism seen with a good eye. almost square, almost b&w. very nice and charming photo.
nikkitta (12772) 2014-07-03 13:49
Just discover small spots of color, truly a creative and graphical capture playing in a great way with shadows and light
Well done, regards
eldancer1 (24727) 2014-07-03 15:16
Looks like the houses were made from a pattern but rather nice looking pattern and architectural styles. Good pov and sharp details. Well done, tfs.
siudzi (31777) 2014-07-03 23:00
What a superb view you have discovered and photographed! These houses created an eye catching and really interesting visual effect. Like it! Smartly taken image.
Kamilutka (8085) 2014-07-04 1:34
after second glance I realized that the picture is not monochrome :-) The green bushes look like the only extra color apart from black and white facades. That definitely enhanced the geometrical style of the composition. Nice tight cropping focusing on the architecture, good sharpness and contrast.
Thanks for sharing

mirosu (12284) 2014-07-06 3:26
Excellent arrangement with the hoses triangles. The houses are in excellent light and there is a superb black & white contrast. Very nice lines and geometrical forms. Excellent B&W feel even that it is not a B&W photo.
Very well done.
p.s. Sorry for delayed comments, but I do not have internet access every day.

Interesting Freudenberg view of the white-washed half timbered homes stacked next to each other, covering foreground to background.

Great this composition, with the entire group of lovely houses facades, all homogeneous .... fantastic effect, which produces its triangular shape with the roofs, creating as a diagonal crossing of with each other, an amazing place ....
Very good brightness and sharpness, with beautiful colors.
Well seen and done better. I like it
Have a good day.

Hello Gunnar. Half-timbered houses are always interesting. In this black and white photo, the symmetry is the key. Really great graphic effect of lines and patterns.

Hi dear Gunnar, how are you?
So sorry for long no reply/action to you due to some reasons. Ya great idea from your own originality.
So stuuning view image of continuation in perfect balance framework and composition as usual. This is your signitured image at all.

Finfin bild!
worldcitizen (6409) 2014-07-10 13:33
I've seen photos of these houses before, and I've always liked them. It looks like a scene from a fairy tale. I like that you chose to present this in "color", even though we don't see many different colors at all. The green shutters do match the green trees, which is nice. :-) I also like the crop, filling the whole frame with houses.
lousat (71411) 2014-07-11 9:06
Hi Gunnar, absolutely fantastic! What a great way to take these facades in this hard but precious light, magnificent geometric composition, one of the most original pics never seen on TE! Have a nice WE and thanks,Luciano

Another proof that Freudenberg is an eye-catcher! ;-))
The bedclothes is a beautiful detail in all these black beams and roofs. I'll have coffee and cake there tomorrow ... ;-))

Good evening and happy start to the week.
Best wishes from southern Spain.
annjackman (17507) 2014-07-13 11:47
My immediate reaction was that it was a b/w image but close inspection reveals touches of green. Love the graphic shapes and light and shadow areas. A fantastic subject and you took a great photo of it. Wonderful visual impact.
Kind Regards, Ann
Waylim (24954) 2014-07-14 10:11
Interesting shot, first I wanted to say it was in black and white but then when I open it, it surprise me to see the green. Anyway, what is impressiv ei the triangular shape of the houses that make into a live reapeating patterna dn strong contrast that make the image pop. It could as well be in black and white and it would have been eaqually good. I love it, the light is perfect for this shot.
josepmarin (57463) 2014-07-14 10:53
I admire the good effect of the flat perspective in your framing, which are enhancing the graphical quality of these houses, with a strong and beautiful chaos of lines, triangles and shapes.
The light and the shadows on the ensemble complete a fantastic architectural composition.
Didi (54665) 2014-07-17 9:24
Awesome picture with nice contrast
You had a very good artistic inspiration
