This Saint Nicholas church built in 1794 is an architectural monument and is rated among the top-100 cultural sights of Ukraine. It was designed by Nikolay Lvov as the burial-vault of Kochubeys family, who possessed of the village of Dikanka before 1917. The church is situated at the outskirts of Dikanka, a kilometer's walk from the Dikanka’s triumphal arch.
After the revolusion of 1917 the church was closed and opened several times. Since 1963 it was used as an atheistic museum, and since 1985 it was a department of the state historical and regional museum. On July 16 1989 the church was reopened and consecrated again.
You can see the entrance facade of the church in the additional photo.

A well composed picture with the cross giving good depth. An interesting form of the church and, as usual, a very good note!

architettura molto particolare quella di questa chiesa.
Sembra di vedere un mausoleo.
Ottima gestione della luce e contrasto con il cielo.
Bella la croce di legno in primo piano a completare la composizione.

On your very interesting complementary photograph also, this side of this church, rather its architecture, makes me think of part of the White House of the United States !!! Beautiful development of this church with this cross on the right which gives depth to this luminous image and of an excellent clearness. Good photograph with an instructive comment, thank you Sergiy.
With all my friendships and a very good WE,

The wooden cross makes an original frame for the church!
I notice the special architecture as it isn't often one sees a circular layout...
The composition is well balanced with good depth, lovely natural colours!

A nice testimony of the past! This church looks quite different with its round shape!
The wooden cross in the foreground gives the photo some depth; and the contrast between the overgrown cemetery and the well-tended church surroundings gives a good effect! The wild flowers make for a springy atmosphere, which makes us think the dead are not so unhappy where they are. It's a change with the usual dark, gloomy atmosphere of cemeteries!

I miss TE and I'm sure your photos has part on that feeling. You are definitely the kind of the church buildings :) Lovely color/light combination and incredible definition. Very well composed with the cross filling the right side and the church as the main attraction. Very good work!

I like the framing chosen in order to superpose the cross on the wonderful architecture of the church, in a beautiful image that attracts our looks, forming a very elegant and attractive composition.
A great work with the light and the colors.
It's an excellent work, my friend.

Cette église a retrouvé sa fonction première après de longues années. L'architecture n'a pas pris une ride. J'aime cette croix bien particulière au premier plan.

Good view at the church from the cemetery, keeping the big wooden cross on the side to balance the shot. Colors and sharpness are of superb quality

Hello Sergiy, It's good to hear that after it's history this old church is now once more open for worship. Although not always the case we often see small churches with their own cemetery, I think this happens more often in small tows or villages. Excellent quality image, colour, detail & light are super, the wooden cross adds depth & puts it all in context.
fabianoleite (10059) 2010-07-11 19:15
Good combination of church and cemetery. The wooden cross creates a nice balance with the church on the left. Good composition. Congratulations!
