Between Fantasy and Reality, a photo from Zuid Holland, South

Photographer's Note

During one of my countless walks around Den Haag,I passed the Haags Historisch Museum (Den Haag Historical Museum).
Outside on one of the huge windows there was a really fine poster of an exhibition called: "Between Fantasy and Reality-The cityscapes of B.J.van Hove(1790-1880).
The work of van Hove is painted in the typical style and colors of the Dutch golden age,with lots of cloudy skies and shady spots,all very exiting indeed...
I noticed the 17th century classicist palace,het Mauritshuis and the 1446 Binnenhof (houses of parliament),in front of an impressive modern skyline
in simulair "van Hove light circumstances"":+]]

Note the litlle tower right,this is the official office
of prime minister Mark Rutte,thank god he and has awfull gangmembers have resigned today!!

glorious light, makes this scene slightly 3D like, fine exposure management to capture detail in the highlights and shadows. A great balance of old and modern architecture.

Heel knappe foto. Ik ken de schilder niet waarnaar je verwijst, maar ik kan me er wel iets bij voorstellen, zeker met die vergelijkbare wolken. Kleuren zijn zacht en natuurlijk. Ook het strakke contrast tussen redelijk oud en héél modern vind ik typisch voor vele Nederlandse steden.

Leuke verwijzing ook naar de actualiteit. Vanmorgen op de radio was er bij ons enig leedvermaak te horen over jullie troebels. Normaal gezien zijn wij het die beschaamd moeten zijn over het politiek gedoe bij ons!

Image impréssionante et attrayante, parait même un collage! Ce n'est plus la ville que j'ai vue il y a quesques années...mais point de vue architecture elle est intéressante. Prise très nette et réussie. Merci Jan!

Lovely water front with impeccable sharpness, color tones & wonderful skyscape, well detailed throughout on the prominent buildings, being the main interest with its' unique architecture full of character and feel. The exciting cloud formation anchors the focus so well into the shot and the little touches of vivid colors have further added the much oomph to this fine shot. So much to look at within this limited frame. Great shot Pak, Congrats

A shot worth waiting for!
You have managed the light beautifully on this mixture of old and new! A have an anthropomorphic feeling about the buildings, that the old are standing proud and resolute, in no way harrassed by the tall up-starts, peeping over their shoulders!

it is a very showy composition, because of the nice graphical effect created by the combination of architectural styles and by the beauty provided by the varied shapes and geometries of the buildings.
