Some Tidbits about St. Paul's School,Darjeeling.

St. Paul's School is an independent boarding school situated in the town of Darjeeling in the Jalapahar near the army cantonment.St. Paul's is essentially an Indian residential school for boys. That is to say, the staff and the scholars are predominantly Indian, and its educational policy is oriented towards life in India and India's place in world affairs. But this has not come in the way of one of the School's most important assets: its international, multiracial and cross-regional cosmopolitan character. This is an asset of immeasurable educational value. Boys from many different parts of India, of different castes and from different religious communities, are living, working, eating, worshiping and playing together with boys.

In 1823, John William Ricketts conceived the idea of a school to meet the educational needs of the growing Anglo-Indian community in Calcutta. On May 1, 1823, The Parental Academic Institution was established on 11, Park Street in central Calcutta. The School was moved to its present Jalapahar estate in Darjeeling in 1864 with 31 boarders and a few day scholars. A number of its students fought in both World War I and World War II.

The beauty of this location has also attracted Film Makers from Bollywood. Two Hindi Movies have been shot here - Main Hoon Na (2002) and recently Barfee(2012).
