Photographer's Note
SINGER??
I tried a couple of titles for this image- from FLOODS to SUMMER PATIO to even DROUGHT
This photo was taken over my neighbours hedge of what is normally a lovely stream meandering through the Oxfordshire countryside.... But ever since they announced the first ever Hose pipe ban in April in England - Guess what? Yeah you go it- we have had floods!!!. The drought has been due to two years of way below average waterfall in England - leaving resevoirs very low and in danger of England running out of water ..
It has not stopped raing for nearly 10 days - its cold and wet -- pretty much - Weather for ducks!
So why did I call it Singer? well because of the lovely table that is actually standing on a nearly submerged wooden landing.... and what serves my neighbours as a summer Picnic area..
SINGER- of course is well known brand of domestic sewing machine. this would have been a stand for the sewing machine and would predate the electic models - as the pedals we used to drive the sewing machine while the seamstress went to work on making the latest fashions...
What does WIKI say?
Singer Corporation is a manufacturer of sewing machines, first established as I.M. Singer & Co. in 1851 by Isaac Merritt Singer with New York lawyer Edward Clark. Best known for its sewing machines, it was renamed Singer Manufacturing Company in 1865, then The Singer Company in 1963. It is currently based in La Vergne, Tennessee near Nashville. Its first large factory for mass production was built in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1863.[1]

Hi Richard,
A great photo and note to illustrate the deluge of rain that we have been having for weeks now. This morning is bright and sunny so off on a 6 mile walk before the rain returns later today.
I wondered why a sewing machine base should be in Copredy but your note explains this well - what a great idea.
A super photo that makes me smile.
Best wishes, Ann

Hi Richard,
I quite like the POV of this photo. It is also very inviting as well.. even though the flood is not.The title and the photo make a perfect match. Singer has been such a famous name, I guess that some of the people still remember them.. I do see ones like this in antique fair sometimes, of course with 'head' on :-D.. beautiful. The singer sign in the middle made the photo more interesting..
