Photographer's Note
A distorted view of the Lock Keepers cottage at the Cropredy Lock on the Oxford Canal.
Playing around with a 15mm Fish eye lens, in what could be consituted as a Mini mini TE meet with MJR, we had an evaluation of lenses which he had hired for trial.
I like the lens from a different and fun perspective.. and certainly felt one could create a range of unusual images.. as is the case of the Lock Keepers Coattage. a normal standard 2 up and 2 down house, is now transformed into a pot belly residence.( a bit like the ghrumpy old git that currently lives init)
Its wide angle is famtastic, The image was taken less that 3 meters from the building and yet it has both the full two stories of the house and the neighbours behind.. on a slight negative- it cannot handle a huge contrast in light and will often blow out the sky.. Generally,a great fun lens.. that will give a different perspective to you images..
I have added a workshop- The same photo but taken from approx 9 meters away this time

Hello Ric,
This house is really packed full. That's why it has adopted this form.
Humorous picture. It looks a bit like a fish in a round aquarium that comes closer to have a look at the camera.
Best regards, Paul

Ric
I am not always convinced about fish eye lens shots but this one might just change my mind.
It's very effective, producing a fun shot that seems to be in keeping with the character of the house.
There is a strong symmetrical feel to the shot too, which is emphasised by fence which can be seen in both bottom corners of the frame.
A great choice of subject for this effect.

Good Morning Ric,
In terms of impact, your posted shot is much stronger than that in the w/s, though they each have their own statement.
I really like it. It reminds me of something that would be included in a children's story when a house could be given a character: and the house huffed, and puffed! It is certainly very anthropomorphic!
The distortion has not affected the sharpness, which is good.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)
Looking forward to the meeting, too.

Hello Richard,
What an interesting fun shot! The distortion here has a wonderful and humourous effect and it makes your home look like something from a children's story book. Perhaps this is where the "Twits" once lived?
Naturally, the depth of field with this lens is amazing and the effect is very novel. I'm not sure if I would actually want to buy one of these lenses because I can imagine that the novelty would be short lived - use it a few times for fun effects like this then it sits in a drawer for evermore.
Lovely colours, excellent composition and spot-on exposure. Wonderful sharpness too.
Brilliant!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. Have you decided which lens to buy? If you decide to get this one, please keep it well away from my belly or it'll make me look like Billy Bunter or that huge glutton in Monty Python's "Meaning of Life".

Hi Richard,
I love this. The distortion swells the lovely cottage to welcome all those passing visitors! I like the way that the white fence appears to be surrounding and holding it tight. Nice gentle light. Super experiment.
Best wishes, Ann

Hi Rich,
do not breath out in the house. Somebody has blown it up to its maximum and with the next portion of air that gets in the house will surely explode.
Funny picture that reminds me of Bugs Bunny and similar cartoons.
Best wishes
