Vicolo Venuti is a small side street off the main drag of Via Nazionale, or "Rugapiana" as it's often known by locals, being about the only flat street in the town.
Cortona is a small but fascinating city in the province of Arezzo, Tuscany, central Italy, situated on a commanding hill, and overlooking Lake Trasimeno. Its cyclopean walls reveal its Etruscan origins. It was one of the twelve cities of Etruria and in its vicinity many ruins and Etruscan tombs may be seen. Cortona sided against Rome until 310 B.C. when Fabius Rullianus defeated the Etruscans and took Perugia. Perugia, with other cities, including Cortona, then made peace with Rome. Later Cortona was destroyed by the Lombards but was soon rebuilt. In the 14 C, it was governed by the Casali and afterwards became part of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
I always love wandering the backstreets, and on this day I was rewarded with a setting sun which beautifully illuminated the "vicolo" or lane, and all I had to do was wait for a passer-by.

this intimate little street scene has some lovely colour tones. the subtle changes are wonderful and very complimentary, even the figure blends in superbly. the street light is well positioned to reflect some light on the walls, while the sunlight illuminating the buildings on the corner is quite magical, and has resulted in lovely rich colours on the walls.

Management of (difficult) light, soft colors, vertical format, chosen pov, level of sharpness and composition are all excellent and truly pleased me!
TFS - congrats,

Perfect street scene- the late afternoon sun lighting up the rustic facades together with the already lit street lamp- perfect.

An exceptional photo and very intriguing. Perhaps the thought of what is around the corner...a beautiful sunset maybe.
Lovely colours and pinpoint sharpness in tricky conditions.
Well shot Will

Well done Will.
I like the way you have captured both the image and the texture within the image. The highlights on the small window center left and what looks like a cobweb on the frame of the street light.

J'aime beaucoup la lumière de cette photo. Les couleurs des murs sont très douces sous cet éclairage. C'est très réussi, et le personnage apporte une belle présence.

Hello Will - The light in this shot really appeals to me. I love the way it spills across the façades to the rear on the LHS highlighting both colour and texture. It is also reflected off the shutters adding a nice touch of contrast to the soft palette. An atmospheric shot, it gives the impression of the day winding down as the man walks home looking quite weary, hands in pockets and head down. Full of subtlety and a fine DL shot. Warm regards Rosemary

Good Morning Will,
I have really enjoyed looking at and absorbing this shot. It is full of mood from the colours of the sunset to the textures of the walls, with the single figure, lost in thought, as a focal image.
I love how the height of the buildings feels to compress the scene.
Have a lovely Sunday,

I like this kind of shot with lonely people filling the landscape or urbanscape. It is a way to make the reader of the shot, as being there walking in the same place.
Very good management of the exposure, with an overall good balanced both in lighted area and shadows.

Ciao caro Will
yes wandering those little alleyways are always a boon for a photographer and are places where you often see real life occurring. I like the vertical frame, and the light in the bG is lovely, the foreground however looks a little dark, I suppose a natural consequence of trying to even out the exposure and the difference between the harsh light in the BG and the shade in the FG. Anyway, a great shot, full of atmosphere and so unmistakably Italian, it's making me nostalgic.

A very well composed photo and great use of light and shadow to create a nice feel and excellent depth. The play of light onto the building facade, with deepened shadows on the walkway make this picture even more powerful, enhanced by the stark contrast against the bright sky. Well done.
