Taken in low light conditions inside a church in Colonia. A quick sneak on to the alter and shot through the door in to the priest's chambers.

Vrlo interesantan i lep rad.
Lep pogled na cvece i stari prozor, dobar rad i fotografija.
Treba povecati motiv, pojacati kontrast i ostrinu.
Very interesting and beautiful work.
Nice view of the flowers and the old window, hard work and photographs.
Should increase motivation, enhance contrast and sharpness.
All the best.

A beautiful composition and use of light and contrast.

Beautiful play of light, color and the subject. I would frame this, if I owned it, and put it on a wall. It is better than a painting.

Me again Iain.... I am watching your photos that I have just discover. this is interesting and could be very interesting if the focus it had been a little more careful. the luminous part is an apparition, between so much black, that it emphasizes the mystery sense. an other winner thing is the illuminated edges of the door. very elegant. bravo! :-)

A photographic piece of jewellery. Silent but masterly. Best wishes, Frank

The clipping in the blacks became a second canvas for you strelizia enhancing it's beauty and slenderness.
Very good shot

Another nice one, I like the way the building and the shutter makes a frame for the plant, and the little bit of blue.......... Just right.

This is a very aesthetic shot of such an elegant subject. Although the light is rather low, the colors are quite bright and wonderful. A highly delicate and artistic work!

Very artistic shot, I love the pov. I can almost feel the atmosphere, sitting in the dark room looking through the window toward the opening where the flower sits with soft light. Very moody shot. At first I thought there was too much negative space but, I realize it is what make the melancholic mood.

You succeeded beautifully, without any photographic "noise" to depict subtle tones in darker areas of this bold take featuring the glorious colors on the "bird of the paradise"!
A piece of picture gallery!

AKITA (15125) 2010-10-20 21:05
a beautiful shot of still Strelizia,
its settled yellow figure looks shining, on delicate blue back, in the quiet dark room,
the dark window frame on it in the black room is also make silent geometrical lines, those lines look continuing to the invisible night sky,
thank you for your excellent shot,

Well captured Iain!
This is really the light which is "highlighted" by the darkness!
The narrow door makes the scene more mysterious and intimate focusing the eye on to that lovely single flower.
A very smart idea.

A lot of beautiful images in your portfolio, Iain, but this is exquisite. The composition could not be better with the flower positioned at the foot of the L described by the shaft of light. The frame of the window behind gives a depth. And your use of colour temperature - deliberate or not - contrasts wonderfully with the colours of the flower and the plant. Superb.

Very curious, audacious and artistic this post...I like it very much. I think that many people would reproach that you gave too much importance at the black area and yet it's this black area which makes this composition so beautiful according to me and full with mystery. It emphasizes the enlightened zone, guides our glance and becomes the natural framing. I like much the light and subtle light on the central area which lets appear only some details, the just necessary and which bring beautiful colors, very well associated.
A pleasure of seeing shots like this one which gives desire to stop one moment.

La fleur semble surgir de l'ombre parée de ses belles couleurs et d'un graphisme qui la fait ressembler à un oiseau. On appelle aussi cette fleur oiseau du paradis.

I like this beautiful composition, it's simple but with interesting details like light and shadow game, well done,
