Culture Center, a photo from Panama, East

Photographer's Note

This is not a ruin, this is the new Culture Center of Panama City on the Calzada dam which is in parallel to Panama canal.

Panama City was founded in 1519 by the Spaniard Pedro Arias Dávila about 10 miles east of present-day town center. 1671 it was destroyed by the English pirate Henry Morgan, and then about 5 miles southwest of them, at their present place, newly built. The city won thanks to its geographical location on the Isthmus of Panama soon in importance.

With the construction of the first train and then the Panama Canal, the city took in the late 19 and especially in the 20th Century, an enormous economic boom.

I found this shot so very interesting.
I don't think that I have ever seen a shot of Panama, previously! I'm not sure what I expected but this is not a scene that I had in my mind; it is very modern, very tall, reminiscent of large cities in the U.S.A.
I like your composition where the tall sky-scrapers are given a relationship with the sky and the clouds. The scene would have had less impact if that large, upper cloud had been cropped.
Good sharpness throughout.

toller Blick auf die Skyline von Panama City. Bestechende Klarheit und Qualität lassen einen tiefen Blick bis zu den weit entfernten Hügeln im Hintergund zu. Mir gefällt dabei die Staffelung der verschiedenen Entfernungen. Im Vordergrund auf dem Damm das Kulturzentrum, dahinter die Skyline und weiter hinten rechts im Bild dann noch einige Hochhäuser. Gutes Licht und eindrucksvoller Himmel vervollständigen diese tolle Aufnahme.

That's a view of Panama I never saw...high skyscrapers seemingly competing with each other in the BG with the unique modern art of the Cultural Centre in the centre of the frame. A fine post and true to the spirit of this site!

I had believed in a demolition site in the foreground but, indeed, by looking at more closely it is true that this steel tangle seems arranged hierarchically !!! Various landscapes in this photograph which give much contrast to the image, also accentuated by a good light. The sky brings a dynamics to this panorama. Beautiful and interesting glance, thank you Achim.

Actually I find here more interesting the background skyline of a rarely featured city, I see it looks quite big, more than I had expected, and also has a typical new world skyline, seems like a little Hong Kong of central America
