This is an old scanned print, a re-post after alterations: I took this while strolling in Burano island near Venezia, last days of May 1980.
It did not change much since - but here it shown with much less tourist than nowadays.
The cloudy day did not help the scarce light, and time consume on the quality of the paper-print, but I thought it was worth posting.
It was photographed with my first camera: Fujica Compact35.
On map: 45.4855, 12.4149

I like your posting of this attractive Venice canal scene before the camera digital age. The diagonal composition with boats and classical buildings from foreground to background is ideal, and in warm tones with water reflections.
And not the typical touristy Grand Canal view.
Have a fine weekend,

Dear Ike, it's a good idea and it's allowed, I've posted again some underestimate pictures for more visibility and in order to improve them, this is a value archive of Venezia, the boats look different, deep field of vision and excellent hues, all the best, have a good saturday evening

You're capturing well this place by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the naroow canal in which a lot of boats are anchoring, and tasteful colorful buildings of both sides. It's the beautiful island with the peculiar atmosphere.

a spectacular photo of this place with attractive composition, the colours and lights are beautiful,
ourania (25574) 2014-01-25 11:38
this is a very interesting picture. I only know Burano from recent pictures and think that this view shows it very different. It doesn't look as neat and freshly and brightly painted as in the new pictures. It's a very unique and intriguing daily life setting, though. I like very much the perspective, the reflections and the presence of people. Low lighting, blank sky and dark colours create a melancholic mood and a sense of isolation. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great weekend,

Wow! What a moody shot from Burano! Really great that you decided to share with us your archive image. Lovely place beautifully observed and photographed. TFS!

The length of the canal is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details, the colours of the buildings and of the boats. The washout skt doe not hurt the output of the colours. Have a nice day.

1980s must feel to my children what 1940s feel to me. This is a very nice historic photo with excellent perspective, repeating patterns and reflections.

Almost 34 year old, this is always very interesting for to see Venice in 1980, I don't know or now is a lot changed in these 34 year.
As scanned picture is this very well done.
Colours make these picture attractive
This cares for an excellent composition.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice Sunday,
snunney (78821) 2014-01-26 2:42
An image getting on for 35 years old that still retains much of its charm. The colours are not what we are used to nowadays and have no doubted faded somewhat over the years, but they seem to suit the subject well.

This is a very interesting picture of Burano in 1980.
You write that - apart from the number of tourists - it didn't change much. I have been only once in Venice (in 1977) and then I unfortunately refrained to visit Burano. So I haven't seen the place with my own eyes. According to my personal opinion this picture shows a complete different Burano from all the photos that are posted here lately.
Looking at this picture I regret even more that I didn't go there while I was in Venice in 1977.
This is a fantastic archive photograph. An historical document!
I certainly agree with what Ourania has written.
Time has not stood still in Burano. Nowhere of course.
This picture shows a beautiful and attractive Italian neighborhood brimming with folklore.
Thanks for posting.
Best regards, Paul

I love that photo with all its features. The climate of old times is so obvious not only in the content of the photo but also in its grainy structure. The colors are very pretty and remind me some of the Dutch paintings. Good POV to shoot from with the canal helping to achieve proper depth.
Thanks for sharing
eldancer1 (24769) 2014-01-26 7:38
This must be the area of Venice that they don't show to tourist but still look like a nice place to live. You did a wonderful job scanning this old photo retaining good technical qualities. Well done, tfs.
Cricri (100395) 2014-01-26 8:07
jcpix (11054) 2014-01-26 18:37
I know I've mentioned it before, but I always enjoy these older photographs. Amazing how little things seem to have changed, which is a great testament of time and nostalgia. A wonderful look along the canal, this is a really strong perspective from this point of view, making it easy to follow. Even on a cloudy day, there's no beauty lost here. Looks fantastic for being almost 34 years old...the only difference in this scene nowadays would be brighter, more vibrant colors. :) Enjoy the week ahead.

The memories of the golden days of youth and exuberance must be flashing back on your mind, just looking at this old image.Really creative stuff from old times.Very well presented.TFS.
krzychu30 (15260) 2014-01-27 1:38
on May 3rd 1980 I was born,so the image is in my age.
I like the special charm and look this photo conveys.
The color scheme of the image with visible brownish domination helps here also to create so nice atmosphere and to give the picture kind of sepia look.
Beautiful memory photo!
Wish You a nice week
Oceania (4488) 2014-01-27 6:05
It's from scanned, I know. But it's similar to one artistic style of photography very popular recently. Over 30 years, Venice seemed like never changed.
Lord_Of_Chaos (0) 2014-01-27 6:08
Boats like to play ball in the water.
Beautiful natural colors, excellent composition.
all the best!
Royaldevon (25916) 2014-01-27 7:34
I must say, I really like this.
It has the quality of an old artist's print!
Maybe it is the predominance of browns, maybe it is the lack of tourists,, maybe it is the untouristy attention of unmended pathways, but somehow this is the Venice we would all have loved to experience: real houses, real people.
You have a great viewpoint, good sense of perspective, fine sharpness and very pleasing reflections.
Have a good day,
macjake (51436) 2014-01-28 1:32
Oh man...this is great!
it looks rather different from how we see it today, or at least I think it does...now it seems more tidy and clean, its looking a bit 'rustic' here.
love seeing these older shots. the poor quality doesn't even bother me one bit, its still an awesome post.
Waylim (24956) 2014-01-28 18:27
Not bad for a scan image. What I actually like is the muted colors that give the feeling of old and nostalgic quality. Beuatiful composition and good quality with film texture
delpeoples (52305) 2014-01-29 2:50
This lovely photo has withstood the test of time, resulting in a good quality scan and a retro type atmosphere. the reflections are beautiful, they look like melted silver on top of the water. You were a little unlucky with the overcast weather, but the image retains the character of the place really well.
adramad (34951) 2014-01-29 7:23
Good composition of your file of memories, good job scanning, certainly these people have not changed much, only the facades have been renovated a bit more colorful, I think ...
Have a nice day.
All the best.
P/D. Very grateful for your kind congratulations.
Romano46 (16578) 2014-01-29 10:00
Ciao e buona serata
tenretin (2211) 2014-03-02 1:52
It's nice to occasionally present sun scan of an old photograph or slide. it helps a little in good time and the comparison too. Obviously the sky bleed the colors of spring with age no doubt, but the rest remains colorful and enough net.
Friendly and good Sunday.
jmdias (52009) 2014-05-03 2:07
I didn't have a chance to know this island because there was a strike in that day. very nice angle catching well the canal and the façades.
